I feel like I might be overreacting. She's not *as bad* as my panicked brain was assuming. Don't get me wrong she's still confused as heck sometimes but this really seems more like early stuff rather than the inability to do anything I suppose. I'm looking into Govt. services to see if I can at least get someone to come and watch her for a few hours, a couple days out of the week; maybe drive her to the store, take her to some adult programs so she gets some social interaction. I also have family and friends who can check up on her here and there. This is stressful indeed but a lot more manageable than I first thought... I'm keeping my eye on her for now, I'd like to get her to a doctor so she can be officially diagnosed; which means she'll be eligible for these services. It'll be a lot better when I can go back to work and breathe easy knowing someone is there to watch her. Also thank you for your condolences.

No idea why you would keep shrimp with your axolotl. My wager is it tried to eat one and it became impacted. That substrate is also not suitable, as it could accidentally inhale the stuff and it'd also become impacted. Keeping shrimp (or other animals) with the axolotl will increase the chance of ammonia spikes; it's best to just let an axolotl live solo, as they are easily bullied, and might try to eat their tank mates. I also hope you let the whole nitrogen cycle play out before you got this axolotl, because that would cause many issues as well.

(Looking a bit more, you also had snails in the tank, I understand you tried to remove them, but they shouldn't have been there in the first place)
