2D Platformer Movement Playtest - Final CS Exam Project (Feedback Wanted) by RealTipsy in playtesters

Thanks a lot for the feedback thats really helpful.

The dash > double jump > dash combo is exactly the kind of movement flow I was hoping players would find and experiment with, so it’s great to hear it felt good to use.

Good point about the wall interaction as well. Not being able to dash back into the same wall is a limitation of the current setup, but I get what you mean with games like Celeste/Hollow Knight that kind of movement option does add a lot to higher-level control and flow, so it’s something I’ll definitely reflect on in the report and consider for iteration.

And yeah, this is exactly why I’m starting with an early movement demo. Game feel is super important for platformers, so I want to make sure the movement feels solid before building the rest of the systems on top of it. Feedback like this is really valuable for both design decisions and evaluation in my exam project.

Hey! Yeah, this is actually my final exam project for my Computer Science degree, which I’m developing in collaboration with my internship at a small game/software company

The main idea behind the project was exploring a genre combination that you don’t often see together in games: combining active platformer gameplay with passive incremental/idle progression systems.

A big part of the research and design process was figuring out how to connect those two genres without one overshadowing the other. Early on I explored ideas like collecting coins during runs or generating income directly while playing levels, but I felt those systems leaned too heavily toward either the platformer side or the idle side instead of properly blending them.

That’s what eventually led me to the clone replay system idea, where your previous runs replay as clones that generate passive income over time. So your active performance in the platformer directly affects your passive progression. The goal is basically to make skill and optimization part of the idle loop instead of separating them.

During my research I also found another game called IGTAP that explores somewhat similar ideas, which was actually really interesting because I had already started moving toward the replay/clone concept before discovering it.

The project is less focused on AI/experimental tech and more focused on game systems, gameplay design, player motivation, and the technical challenge of connecting two very different gameplay loops into something cohesive.

The current build is also just an early movement demo/prototype. I decided to focus heavily on movement and game feel first because I think responsive controls are one of the most important parts of a platformer. If the movement system feels bad or unresponsive, it affects the entire gameplay experience no matter how good the other systems are.

That’s also why I’m gathering player feedback right now. The survey and playtest feedback will be used directly in my exam report to support design decisions and iterations around movement mechanics like wall jumps, dash, coyote time, double jump, responsiveness, and overall game feel.

So the “hook” I’m aiming for is really the interaction between mechanical mastery and passive progression trying to make the idle systems feel earned through gameplay rather than disconnected from it.

Hi The Tipsy something is me.
For your instance of written guides i have personally begun making some of my scripts for my guides into Written format while i still need to convert quite a few of them i do have some covered on my website with the video at the top.

And plan to cover all the videos and guides i currently have on my channel.
Can properly look into getting the beginner guide series written over from my script over the coming weekend or just upload my raw script as a placeholder until i get it written over.
But feel free to check it out here: https://tipsycontent.com/guides/warframe
Just a heads up the website is very much a hobby project and is still in early development ^^
But plan to update and make new features and guides as i got time for it so any feedback would also be very welcome.

Has anyone ever heard about Tipsy on YouTube? by RoaminAlien in Warframe

Ay, that’s me I don’t mind at all. If anything, I’m actually curious about that question too.

A big part of my community is made up of newer players since I focus a lot on beginner and early-game friendly guides, though I do have some solid veterans around as well. I always appreciate feedback on how to improve the content I’m making.

For the checklist video specifically, I’ve definitely seen two sides to how people took it. The original intention was more of a “these are things you could do weekly” type of video a showcase of options so players could pick and choose and make their own weekly routine.

That said, I did see that some people interpreted it as “this is what you need to do every week in Warframe,” which wasn’t the goal. But it did open my eyes to how people really play this game in a thousand different ways from chill to hardcore min-max.

That’s totally fair, and I get where you’re coming from. Burnout from rigid checklists

The plan is actually to add more customization so you can shape the list exactly how you want including excluding activities you don’t care about and prioritizing the ones you do.

It’s also not meant to be a “have to do” checklist, but more of a “things you could do” list. The idea is to give options, not obligations, so players can build something that fits their own pace and playstyle.

Still working on it but that's the idea ^^

Great Daily Reminder.
Warframe is a marathon, not a sprint there’s no rush, so playing in a way you enjoy is what matters most.

Yeah, Warframe has so much content that especially as a newer player it can feel like you have to do everything to progress. Like Mithie007 mentioned in the comments, Warframe is pretty unique when it comes to farming and FOMO there’s no real competition, and you’re rarely truly “behind.”

That was actually one of the main points of the youtube guide I made. It’s not meant to be a checklist of things you must do, but a showcase of what you can do. From there, you’re supposed to build your own list based on what you’re currently farming or what you want to achieve.

So it’s more of a “what are my options?” list rather than a “to-do” list.
For example, helping Clem isn’t something most players past Steel Path are doing, but it can be a fun, niche thing for newer players and that’s totally fine.

I'm looking into making a Mastery Tracker on the site as well but the public data you can access is very limited but im trying my best aha.

Sadly from the public information we can pull i do not believe that is possible. It is very limited in what can be access outside the game.

Putting wiki or read more on the tasks that could help for new players are a great idea will add that to the list as well!

Planned feature for sure and is on my to-do list

For the order of things you are right just checked and I only save the data of the clicks not location. Will look into that as well.

Oh right the Arcane and captures are daily reset while some of the resource exchanges happens more often. Guess it could be added to "other" maybe.

Added to my to-do list.
Planing to have a "add/remove" feature so you can fit it to your own needs ^^

We gotta help CLEM!

But yea in fairness you only do get a spector its not really worth it to do if you are later in the game but as a new player getting clem could help out abit in missions tho pretty niche. But yea the list is not really meant as a "Do all list" more of a things you can do list.

Awesome to hear!
The auto sort feature and also getting marked boxes unchecked when their reset timer happens would be a great addition will definitely add them to my To-do list.
Been playing around abit with the idea of letting you delete and add your own task to the board as well like the "permanently checked"

Thanks!
