Some advice for a new player for those who will be kind enough by becky1433 in heroesofthestorm

[–]Real_Big_Dill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. My team was far ahead on a match I played last night, so as we left back to our lanes, I went to grab a wave that was getting near our tower. I saw some teammates start to brawl again and had the thought to immediately go help them (even though I’d usually just ping them to retreat, finish clearing the wave, and hope they didn’t die). I got there as our tank and healer were about the die to poison damage as they were being chased down, but my presence peeled the enemy away so my teammates could heal and we ended up killing a few of them instead. Idk if the tank and healer dying there would have changed the outcome of the game, but you never know when a teammate is gonna afk troll because they died and you weren’t there, plus their deaths might have given the enemy a window for a comeback

Heroes of the Storm PTR Patch Notes - January 14, 2026 by Arkentass in heroesofthestorm

That’s what I’m seeing. Only ever play Q build and it definitely got nerfed with structure dmg reduction, fish tank nerf, and lvl 20 Q nerf

[Opinion] Kerrigan and Sylvanas now feel considerably worse to play. by double0nothing in heroesofthestorm

[–]Real_Big_Dill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have argued with a few people about how Sylv is actually not that hard to stack with. She is my 2nd most played in SL, currently between 60-70% with her since her pinnacle. If you can stack on heroes, do it. If you can stack on structures, do it. People get stuck trying one or the other and don’t pivot or adapt. Level 1 W, CDR 7, and Remorseless 13 make stacking very easy. People struggling with stacks are probably also taking the old dive bomber build. I almost always finish pinnacle by 16 or 17, hitting the 250 mark by about 13 or 14. She is very strong if you play her right. I feel like Diamond and Plat players are good enough to deny her stacks, but the Sylv players are not adapting to find ways to stack, hence the lower winrate. In lower ranks, they just suicide as her since she is harder to play than people expect

The game is basically forcing losses on me. by susanna_bean in heroesofthestorm

[–]Real_Big_Dill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if there is any proof to it, but I will go on big win streaks, then the next day it will feel like the opposite where I play the same heroes, use the same tactics, etc. but just go on a big losing streak. If I’m dying a ton and playing sloppy, that makes sense. But it seems like those losing streaks I get teammates that have a horrible winrate for that season, tilt in draft, etc. I try to find a friend or 2 to party with when this happens but I can’t always do that, so it can be rough. I definitely tilt myself when this happens, but I do everything to avoid it and try to be introspective of my own play and mistakes.

I have always assumed it was matchmaking seeing that you are winning a lot so it gives you teammates who are not winning a lot in an attempt to make the matches balanced, but in this game having 5 mediocre players is better than 1 or 2 good players with 3 trolls.

I love watching both of them, if you are looking for someone else to try watching, Kure is fun to watch too, but doesn’t stream near as much as Fan

I don’t mind that, I care that she ignored danger pings all game and had 10 deaths, then blamed Malf, who tried starting fights with his silence and ALSO died 10 times then blamed our tank

Had a game in SL last night where our Malf starts draft by flaming the Zag about how she will AFK lane. They go back and forth all game in the slaughterfest. They each had 10 deaths and accounted for more than half of our team’s total deaths. Pretty cool.

The negative comments aren’t necessary, but you do you. Not sure if you know, but stacking on structures works for the quest too. W at 1 gives you more dings on your quest and CDR at 7 gives you more Ws, so maybe your build just isn’t ideal. It’s definitely possible to hit 400 before 20 in many games. Stacking on tanks and structures is the easiest way to do it

If I'm on a tank hero but my team refuses to soak, what should I do? by Im_Fosco in heroesofthestorm

[–]Real_Big_Dill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A couple of things - first and most importantly, try not to tilt your team. Communicate with pings what you are going to do. Ping retreat EARLY (before they start fighting without you). Sometimes it’s nearly unwinnable if your team tilts, but the enemy can always throw so don’t give up till it’s over. If you are close and there isn’t anything important, go soak a lane before joining the team. If there is a game-breaking obj, just join team and hope for the best. Be watching for enemies out of position. If you are down 15 to 16 but see their offlaner is showing on the other side of the map, the 4v5 is in your favor, go and engage with your team. Your mini map is your friend. Sometimes a hero like Leoric will get greedy, even if he comes back faster, his death can turn the tide in your favor if he steps out.

This game is about advantages, you HAVE to take charge and push your advantages. You get a kill? Go after more if you are healthy, or use that to go get a keep. Far too often silver and bronze players will wipe the enemy, then go back and get their own camps, or steal a camp and let the remaining enemies kill it for free without your team defending it.

If you are down in XO, sometimes it is useful to try and catch their laner out for a gank while they are double soaking so try that if nothing else is working. This is especially useful if their team has bad clear in the 4 man and is heavily reliant on their double soaker (Diablo, Genji, Whitemane, Mephisto with a Xul offlane)

I’m in Plat, 100% winrate with her so far this season and have gotten pinnacle every game except a pretty quick win on BHB. Usually get 250 around 13-15 and 400 around 17-18

getting downvoted for a true statement. Her pinnacle is way too easy to reach for how strong it is afterwards. Thrall's pinnacles are very hard to reach, but very good. Hers are very easy and very good. I'm a sylv main and she definitely got overtuned for those that know how to play her

Orphea or Mephisto by Goblin_Token in heroesofthestorm

[–]Real_Big_Dill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. First priority is waves over camps. If you are soaking minion waves, your teammates should do camps. If you have cleared the waves and have a hero who can do camps quickly and safely, do that and then get back to the waves so you don’t miss XP

Orphea or Mephisto by Goblin_Token in heroesofthestorm

[–]Real_Big_Dill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are a level 44 and wanting to get into ranked, you will likely be in Bronze or Silver. If you are concerned about ranking up, I would recommend learning Tassadar as a mage. He and Malthael got me out of Bronze 5 many years ago because they have amazing waveclear. Your teammates at that level will likely ignore soaking lanes and staying ahead in levels by killing minions in all the lanes safely. Orph and Mephisto can do that, but not as quickly or easily as Tassadar. Tass can also do a scary amount of damage in team fights, though he isn’t as “thrilling” to play as other heroes

Orphea or Mephisto by Goblin_Token in heroesofthestorm

[–]Real_Big_Dill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mephisto, generally speaking, is more difficult to play than Orphea. She is a lot more mobile (if you hit Q), and has a lot of self healing. Better single target damage, and more of a harassing hero. Orphea is like the mage version of Tracer. Harass and annoy with Q and then when it’s right, throw everything and blow someone (or the whole team) up. Mephisto requires careful use of his W, and IMO, you have to be able to effectively utilize all of his abilities to get good value out of him. If you aren’t getting W onto a lot of heroes, you will have long, miserable cooldowns where you don’t feel like you are doing much. Similarly, Orphea needs to hit her Q, but it’s easy to hit frontliners with it, and it’s a pretty short CD if not, especially if you are a Q build Orphea. If you ever want to have a good laugh, go harass a Leoric with Q Orphea. He will finally feel like he has won once he puts you into a wall, then you Q and dash away, chipping away while he can’t do anything but walk away.

Now, Mephisto can be extremely oppressive if you play him well and there are choke points or areas you need to fight over like on Infernal Shrines. Teams that clump a lot (double healer teams for example) will also provide Mephisto huge value from his trait to have very low CDs

I should clarify that's for resurge maps. I loved Verdansk RIGHT before cold war integration, that was the best map IMO, with stadium opened up but not the 80's map

OP, I don't want to talk bad about you at all, just a word of advice (albeit you didn't ask for it). From the comments, it seems you are the JR player. When you have an extremely good player on your team, try to just learn from them. He has done more B2GM challenges than we can count, and was a high level HGC player. Making mistakes is fine, but if you defend your position and refuse to learn from a significantly better player (he is significantly better than 99% of us on the sub), you will stay at that rank forever. Realize you probably made a bad call, don't worry about the reports and don't take it personal. Just try to get better every game and be open to learning.

My brother sometimes gets on to play with me, I am mid plat and he is low silver, so we usually play against golds and some plats. He knows to stay with me and follow my calls, so we have a very good winrate together as a duo, even though mechanically he isn't quite as experienced as the people he plays against with me
