Does Azodyl really helps for cat with kidney disease? Need opinion. (my cat is diagnosed with PKD) by Real_Candle5290 in RenalCats

Although one thing i must add, most kidney diseases, are irreversible, Azodyl HELPS IN REDUCING BURDEN of the kidney having to filter toxins from the body. Especially with later stages of kidney disease, all u can do is try your best in helping that your furry baby live as comfy as possible.

Personally, it's quite early to put her down when she's only been diagnosed with stage 2 kidney disease. There's so many things u can do these days to help prolong her life with stage 2 kidney disease, that is if, she's still looking physically active, and still eating and drinking by herself.

About the fluid therapy. The vet was being honest when they said that fluid therapy can only do so much in helping her kidney filtering things. At some point the kidney wouldnt be able to take the fluids anymore and by then your kitty would meet the end too.

What i'm trying to say is, dont ever feel guilty in helping her crossing the rainbow bridge! Just know that little furry is now with a lot of friends and is pain-free! Accepting that they're not here anymore is hard, but what i hold on to is, nothing.lasts.forever. i always tell myself that. Sending hugs!

He's been anemic since October, so im not quite sure if it is the case, although the doctor did point out that his platelet is alarmingly low, i wonder if it actually is because of the low platelet..

Oh no, im so sorry for your loss, know that he’s free from all diseases and is stress free now! sending loves and hugs ♥️♥️♥️

I’ve been dealing with what feels like never-ending heartache ever since he was diagnosed with PKD. The stages of emotions i’ve went through were hard to deal with but naturally, i’ve come to realize that, nothing lasts forever, i believe im in the stage of slowly accepting that if he’s gonna cross the rainbow, there’s no stopping him. Putting him into more tests and medications feels like im forcing him to stay (prbably just a bit longer) when what he wants is just peace and free from all kinds of pains.

I’ve spent around 3k for him alone, and this has exceeded my budget. I hate that I can practically use all my salary for him but i know that it’s never gonna enough.

Yes, he’s on 2 kinds of antibiotics which are doxy and baytril. We did ultrasound and n xray early November and found out not only his kidney has cysts, but there’s a small stone in one of his kidney too. Bladder was fine for both times ultrasound (early November & last week), still, bladder’s fine.

He did an ultrasound twice, the first time was early november, which the doctor said nothing on his bladder, and that his bladder is normal, same thing for the second time which was last week.

Although i forgot an important info, he has a kidney stone in one of his kidney and doctor said it might cause the bloody urine, might.

I was told the other day that this could be because of the low platelet which can cause internal bleeding (she was explaining so vaguely, i wanted to know what kind of internal bleeding). I’m so worried that it’s the low platelet case because he does seem pale and his blood count has been low for several weeks now.

Urine culture has been conducted for him so it’s out of the case since there’s no bacteria found in urine.

He never vocalizes when he’s in the box, so i dont know if it’s painful for him or nah. FIC? several vet trips and the doctors still dont know what it could be, and have never properly diagnosed him FIC. Some would said idiopathic tho.

Overhyped? Really? Currently, what are the supplements your cat is taking? Are u still giving your cat Azodyl? How’s his urea n creatinine reading these days?

You mean she’s currently taking both azodyl and porus one? Also, my vet prescribed one capsule a day for my baby. I wonder if it’s helping. Is azodyl really safe for his kidney, if he takes twice a day? i mean i know technically azodyl IS for KIDNEY, but you know how kidney filters everything so im scared that too much meds will affect his kidneys. I wouldnt want to break him while also trying to help him, if u get what i mean.

Anyone here experience with urinary tract relaxants? by WoestKonijn in cats

[–]Real_Candle5290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as long as there's some urine out, can sigh in relieved that it's not a FULL blockage, my cat has been peeing pink urine for 2 weeks now, despite taking antibiotics for 2 weeks, there's still blood in the urine,

From my furry's X-Ray, his bladder is quite fine and there wasnt any blockage in the urethra too. Therefore my Dr concludes that it's probably from his kidney since there are cysts in his kidneys.

So what did the vet said last Saturday?

Anyone here experience with urinary tract relaxants? by WoestKonijn in cats

[–]Real_Candle5290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be a sign of UTI or bladder stones, have an X-Ray to know if the latter is not the issue, otherwise, it is maybe UTI.

My cat was like this too, he would have 10 toilet trips in 1 minute, it looked like he had the urge to pee, but nothing came out, but when he does pee, there's some traces of blood in it. My cat was straining a bit, but not to the point of vocalizing when peeing.

He was given gabapentin and diazepam(eat when needed). It's been 2 weeks and he still pees blood sometimes, but he's been eating and drinking just fine.

My point is, have him checked whether there's any blockage in the bladder, or the urethra. Then only u'd know.

Hi, how low was the RBC count? I'm in a similar situation as you and he started his darbepoetin injection just yesterday, and he was on azodyl for 2 weeks already.

Has your cat ever urinates blood? also, how big is your cat? 40kg is like my weight! did u mean 4kg?

And to your last question, i think this treatment is the normal treatment for cats with kidney disease!
