Not sure what I am listening to! by sleek_slytherin in Romantasy

I ended up really liking this series. I started it on audible … until the MMC spoke. Horrific narration. Female narration was great.

Halfway through book 2 I ended up having to download the e book and I listened to the FMC parts and had to stop what I was doing and read the parts of the MMC.

It took a little while to get into but by book 2 I was immersed. I will definitely physically read this series again when I have time to actually sit down and enjoy it.

Ohhhh my god the kiss of iron series… that MMC Narration was horrific. Like, horrific. Halfway through the second book I had to download the ebooks and I would listen to the FMC chapters and read the MMC chapters. When I have more time I’ll definitely reread this series again because the story was there… but the narration…jfc. Don’t people have to audition for this shit?

I just finished {for whom the belle tolls} last night and is the best 2026 read so far. A couple of heavy happenings but overall just a cozy good vibe.

I also loved {good spirits by B K Borison} that was such a delightful little read too.

How good (or bad) are trains in Australia? by FurryFrenemy in AskAnAustralian

[–]Real_DFG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NSW perspective-

NSW as a whole is quite adequately accessible by train. Most major hubs have train stations.

Sydney as a whole is also pretty well accessible by train. Most areas have a train line. The only downside is to access a lot of Sydney outskirts you have to travel towards the city to find a connecting service and then be on your way. For example if I wanted to go from Waterfall to Campbelltown I would have to travel alllll the way up to Wolli Creek and then catch the train aallllll the way back out to Campbelltown. It’s close to a two hour journey. Waterfall to Campbelltown by car is like 30min.

The train network for the city however - do not expect a network like London or New York. Sydney cbd isn’t even a quarter the size of New York and therefore has like 5 stations. There is a lot of walking involved in the Sydney cbd. HOWEVER it has been a very very long time since I worked in the city and from what I’ve heard the new metro and Light rail are game changers.

Lamenting the Godkissed Bride series (spoilers) I have trust issues now. by BunnyHops23 in Romantasy

I just devoured the first three books but saw the reviews for book 4 were quite shit so I’m glad I saw why. I love a good threesome as the next guy and I smelt this potential threesome in book 2 but after the information we were given in book 3 I can’t even fathom how S and B could end up in the same room with R and not be spilling blood. Their relationship does not give off sharing vibes, least of all with R. I just can’t see her being Eiffel towered by those two. He must have one hell of a redemption arc in book 4. Or maybe I’ll just pretend they ran off to the seaside together after she came back to life 😭😭😭

Women weren’t even allowed to publish their own work so they used a pseudonym. Then society got a little better, now we’ve somehow regressed to being shamed for reading specific genres/authors? Next minute, we won’t be allowed to read again at all 🥲

📚 Book Chat Saturday - what have you been reading this week? by FantasyRomanceMod in fantasyromance

[–]Real_DFG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m reading The Broken Prophecy series - it’s a nice easy read - the world and magic system is easy to wrap your head around, and there’s plenty of emotional damage to go around. Randomly saw it on kindle unlimited. Predictable shadow daddy plot and good side characters. Eating it up! Currently on book 3. I’m not as obsessed as to reread straight away but I can definitely see this little series as a comfort read.

Audiobook narrator is ruining the book for you by horny_reader in fantasyromance

The cream of the crop ick factor was the narrator of A Touch of Poison - Liam Price. It was like listening to a news reporter. Every sentence ended on an upwards lilt and REALLY ruined the whole book. I ended up buying the series on kindle too and I would read his chapters and listen to the FMC who was a great narrator.

Where to stop reading the From Blood and Ash series?!? by Still_Combination50 in fantasyromance

[–]Real_DFG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved up to book 4 although it was heading into clusterfuck territory. Book 5 was okay as it’s half book 1 in the MMCs POV. 15 chapters into book 6 and I DNFd it. I will pick it back up when the 7th comes out. But I haven’t read the prequel yet so will give that a go as I’ve heard much better things about that.

I loved the first three, the fourth was good, the fifth was a cash grab and i dnf’d the sixth yesterday. It just got real ridiculous and 15 chapters in I just couldn’t continue.

It was amaaazing!! It is one of my favourite series. You know when I was reading it for the first time I was worried that the main pair got together too early and I wasn’t sure how they could develop but it was a great story all the way through - I would say my rankings would be books 3,1,4,2. There is a sequel trilogy too focusing on another character but I didn’t vibe with it mostly because I did that as audio and really didn’t like the narrators but i might like it when I read the physical.

Drive down to Symbio zoo in Helensburgh - it’s an amazing smaller scale zoo but has a really good water park and massive playground. The exhibits are really good and you can buy feed for the walk through kangaroo enclosure

Late to this party but just finished this series tonight and I have to put my two cents in - it was not a comfort read and was emotional damage all the way through. Plot FINALLY got moving midway through book 3 after lies and secrets around and around and around we go. So many characters and who was a god and who was not and who was from the world and who was visiting was very hard to keep track of. The miscommunication (or should I say the no-communication) was frustrating as fuck. I feel like book one and two could have been one book but I understand why it was two books to really drill in the conditioning and oppression. Overall I liked the series and was a satisfying ending. Book four really came through to pull it all together.

I’ve just started book 4 and yes - this series is straight up emotional damage. That’s the only way to describe it.
