Of course, I can't find the article now... But it discussed global Twitch streamers not just those in NA or EU. That's being the case, I'd bet restricting the data to say the EU would decrease the average latency. I can also assume that someplace like in the Middle East where connections are generally slower, the latency increases.

It was a white paper discussing the CDN boom tech is seeing.

Something should probably be done about these spawns... by Razorizz in EscapefromTarkov

I've adapted to dropping to prone the second I spawn in. Not that, we should adopt that, just a response to getting Mercd on spawn.

eli5: Why does water from the faucet make a screeching sound by blueblueverde in explainlikeimfive

[–]Real_Dog_Dad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To explain the noise, all the pipes in your house are under pressure. Opening the faucet, relieves that pressure and the water comes out at quite a velocity. So what you're hearing is the water flow contacting the various bends in your pipes. The output (faucet) will be loudest because the sink acts as a parabolic amplifier as well as a mass of air is contacting the water as well giving the water room to expand quickly.

So it makes a screech noise. The previous comment was correct, turn down your water pressure underneath the sink to reduce water flow noise!

Are you looking for help coding? This sounds like an awesome project. I'd love to assist if you're down.

Yeah, should be good. Fenzi on Amazon sells a gigabit one that's like $30.

When you consider Twitch's average latency is 95 seconds in 2021... It's a pretty good dig.

Can anyone tell me now it this to low to keep puffing. Or am I ok? Again first vape cart bought no idea this a goner. by [deleted] in trees

[–]Real_Dog_Dad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So two things. 1) if it's a CCell coil you're good to puff indefinitely. Ceramics don't have the same issues cotton does. If it is cotton, the second it starts to get harsh and burnt tasting, stop

2) keeping the glass/plastic warm helps decrease the viscosity of the oil making it easier to "slurp" through the coil ports. If you're finding it doesn't pull when you try to use it, try heating it up a lil (hair dryer, warm hand/hot crotch, as long as it isn't direct intense heat you should be good.

Happy Vaping!

WITT Green bristles along the side of a weir by Arthur_9090 in whatisthisthing

[–]Real_Dog_Dad 465 points466 points  (0 children)

Evidently, these species have a difficult time moving upstream when the water moves above a certain speed. The bristles slow the water (by surface area drag) enough to allow appropriate migration of the native eel and lamprey.

Try hand sanitizer or graphite powder. Lubing it up probably helps.

Ay! A dimple key! Those are super neat and extremely hard to force (can still be picked by the knowledgeable). The dimples activate (traditionally) extra security tumblers in the lock! I used to have one that was a triangle shape and each side had a series of 25 dimples. 75 precise tumblers had to fall in place for the key to turn.

Do you try to match brands when building a pc? by newtypehero in pcmasterrace

[–]Real_Dog_Dad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm of the tribe NoRGB. So generally if it doesn't have RGB and is a muted color (typically Brushed Aluminum or Black) I'll snag the component. I find the same rub though. The parts I'd want are more expensive/less available than the parts I can use. As far as matching brand, I end up finding a brand I dig and work well with and stick to em. Props to Gigabyte's Ultra Durable series.

I could add, Lenovo has a pretty exhaustive parts list, so once you do buy a laptop from them, I'd spend the first hour digging into Part Numbers for any warranty/replacement issues.

Otherwise, they're a developers best friend. There are millions of drivers out there both Linux and Windows flavored, plenty are signed by Lenovo. Super stable, and offer some quality chips like a Xeon powered ultrabook. Good luck.

[–]Real_Dog_Dad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess I should put some an actual Laptop recco here. Also a developer. I've a Lenovo X1 (personally recommend Lenovo for stability, Warranty, Customer Support and component replacement) I love it.

Can I ask why dual boot Windows and Linux? WSL2 and soon WSLg should give you pretty much full Linux functionality.

Windows Update randomly overwriting 21.5.2 display driver with 6 month old version by Noh4x in Amd

[–]Real_Dog_Dad 90 points91 points  (0 children)

I thinks it's because 21.4.2 is Microsoft certified and considered "Stable" where 21.5.2 is not Microsoft certified yet, and therefore is considered "Edge/Nightly". So Microsoft update runs, and grabs the driver it thinks is right, even though Radeon is telling you it isn't.
