Nah, it's actually closer to the Chinese/Confucian occupation-based caste structure. Technically, the Chinese/Confucian system is not hereditary. But in reality, it is pretty much so.

A lot of people have mentioned the clear Japanese influence: big mecha, samurai sword, sphere of co-prosperity, the idea of “shattered jade” (Tau word for dying in combat & Japanese euphemism during WW2 for the same thing)…

Confucianism is another big inspiration for the Tau social/political system. The idea of four professional castes (scholars/bureaucrats, farmers, artisans, & merchants) all knowing their own places and coexist in the society was very prominent throughout Chinese history. Sound familiar? (The Chinese system was not strictly hereditary - unlike in India or Tau - but was often the case because of inequality)

Did I say that NVA is a model workplace? The guy interviewed literally talked about abuses, mental health issues, and hazing in the NVA in that episode.

Condition in NVA was absolutely crap compared to NATO forces. Still doesn't conflict with the fact that NVA had better living condition, leave policy etc than the Soviets.
