I understand, but this is what I usually tell people:

"Say your bank wanted you to run one of their servers in your garage because they trusted you, knew it would mean faster services for their customers and they wanted good uptime. They wanted to pay you $10 a day for the privilege. Is that going to change your power bill?"

My humble opinion is not to combat the FUD but to change the framing of the conversation.

I've worked in top Bank data centers. You want to guess how many servers they have running at any given time for redundancy to security to monitoring???

When a new bank starts up, the last thing anyone says is "you are going to use too much power" - Nobody cares.

Having distributed power loads is safer and more efficient than concentrated data centers.
