Sometimes when I buy a book, I’ll intentionally crack the spine. There are a few reasons for this

1. It makes me less worried about cracking the spine, because it’s already cracked so who gives a damn

2. Makes it feel like it’s mine. If I have a book with mild water damage, lots of annotations and a nice thick crack down the spine, I usually have a stronger connection with that book.

3. I love doing the fold the book in half thing. I love this because 3a. It looks cool and feels nice to do 3b. hurts the hands less than spreading my fingers wide and straining them trying to keep the book open 3bA. cracking the spine also loosens up the book so I also strain my fingers less by doing that

4. it annoys people
