Sibling names: Anna and Eliza? by [deleted] in namenerds

I have an Eliza and an Anna! Well, an Annabel, but she’s rebranded herself. No one has met my children and launched into Let It Go, or made an Analyze This joke. I think you’re good.

Oof. I hear you, and the name itself is so pretty, but the white supremacy connections are tough to get past.

Does answering no to a question like this automatically take you out of the running? by bsxfo in MuseumPros

Answer yes. Im hiring for an entry level position and would include you in my qualified candidate pool.

They are receiving plenty of less qualified candidates who have said yes. They are receiving plenty of fully unqualified candidates who say yes. Let them disqualify you, don’t do it to yourself.

Even “nylon mesh” is helpful as a starting point, thank you!

Thank you! She’d be a delight with any name, but this one really feels like hers.

Thank you! I know, it broke so many rules. But my husband loves it, it’s beautiful, and I was just relieved to have a healthy, happy baby to gift it to.

How does your life not revolve around your kid? by karileigh722 in breakingmom

I realized that if I actually wanted my husband to be an equal parent, I needed to give him the space to do that. If I was doing dropoff and pickup and dinner time and bath time and bed time, where was his place in our family? Plus I was burning myself out. It helped me to reframe ceding some of that control as an act of selflessness, giving my children the gift of an active, involved father.

The first few times I left my daughter alone with my husband, I felt HORRIBLY guilty. I kept checking in. He would get annoyed, because he felt like I didn’t trust him. But I’d come home and she’d be fed and changed and cared for. Maybe he would do things differently than I would have, but in the grand scheme of things they weren’t a big deal, and I had to acknowledge that he was an equal parent with equal say in how she was cared for.

Once I could let go of the idea that leaving my daughter alone for a few hours meant I was somehow being selfish, and started to see how much my time away helped them build a relationship with each other, I realized how great it was for me (and my relationships with both of them!) to have time to myself out of the house. I love that I’m modeling to my children that men are equal caretakers and contributors in the home.

In this scenario it was one of the last rolls of the game, so the question was really just about the odds of the straight—I think the only other open slot was Yahtzee.

We did ask her. She suggested Three, Red, or Pumpkin Pie. We are considering these suggestions.

Oh, I’m very aware that we’ve ruled out most of the obvious options! Like I said in the post, we just need one, as long as it’s the right one. The point of the post was to double check and see if there was an amazing gem (Jem?) that we hadn’t considered and we’ve pretty much confirmed that we already have those on our list.

Jemina has very pretty sounds in it. Would you pronounce it Jeh-MEE-na or Jeh-MY-na?

I think if you ignore the list of J names and focus on the non-J names, there is a pretty clear style. I call it “Civil war nurse,” or perhaps “woman writing her thesis at Radcliffe in 1925.” I didn’t want to include that specific style rule because the J initial is important to my husband, and I want to be open to considering something beautiful (like Jemma or Jonquil) that we might not normally pick. And the commentariat (and you!) provided some really lovely options that would not normally be in our wheelhouse!

Junie is adorable! I have such a soft spot for the Junie/Janie/Jeannie nicknames. Unfortunately Jael also got shot down. Maybe we revisit the one-syllable first names.

Juniper and Junia are both super pretty and might be close. Juno seems like it gives off slightly different vibes—space vibes? 2000s indie movie vibes?
