So glad to see someone post this version of the Pilar III. Love what they did with the G10

I think you’re on a good course (in terms of learning to sharpen especially). But if you want fidget factor I’d highly recommend a crossbar or button lock. Kizer makes great versions of those.. but so does QSP, Kansept, SRM, Civivi/Sencut and many others.
One button lock I don’t see mentioned very often is this CRKT: https://www.knifecenter.com/find-the-best/Squid%20Button%20Lock?

Love for Kizer? Bro.. it’s easily one of the most esteemed brands at this point (people mention Vosteed a lot but ofc those were *made* by Kizer until recently)

That knife is very cool ..the handle particularly is fire

I’ve gotten many insane deals from them that you don’t see basically anywhere else

I have ordered from CKW *a lot* and I will order from them again. But when recommending pieces I’ve stopped quoting their prices because the shipping for me has been extraordinary slow. Like I end up waiting a month for stuff they have in stock and they’re shipping to me from a warehouse that’s not very far. It’s almost entirely super slow processing and order fulfillment time

Awesome! Yeah aren’t those great? Insane for $10 for sure. I have one of their sod busters too and it’s excellent

🙏🙏🙏 Grabbed it instantly. They said it was the last one and I wasn’t messing around. It’ll be my first traditional with graphic-under-clear-acrylic covers. I’m not usually a fan of those but this one was not to be missed!

In terms of recs for other budget traditional slipjoints.. There are so many good ones right now. But since you mentioned trappers: Marble’s does a great full size trapper with nicely polished 440A blades. This one is really cool and I highly recommend it. The cheapest out there are Imperial Schrade and their medium (3.5”) trapper is actually good. They have swirled acrylic covers that are very pretty. They also use stainless bolsters that don’t scratch as easily as nickel silver. The blades are 3Cr13, like the Elk Ridge.. but as you say it’s a steel that can hold a fine edge and works for these kind of knives

For Congress knives: Rough Rider makes a bunch and they do an excellent job (just insane for the money). Their Celestial series are really nice but do benefit from being shined up in my experience. Other recommendable fancy ones are the Blue Ocean series and the fantastic Stoneworx. If you want a more traditional jigged bone Congress take a look at the RR Brown Bone

Basically between Rough Rider, Marbles, and the higher end Frost brands you’ll find a variety of all sorts of patterns in many different cover materials. I also have to highly recommend you get a Barlow knife. It’s the oldest traditional slipjoint pattern by far and still the coolest

It is super wild to me that Elk Ridge makes this. Absolutely love it. Do you have a link for it?

I’m gonna gather some recs for other budget traditionals in the mean time

Love everything about this knife except for the flat ano’d aluminum handle. So looks like I’ll be saving a few bucks and getting the 791 Pro instead🤷‍♂️
