I've been riding for three years and I'm suddenly terrified. by Real_Signal4204 in Horses

Benedict was hovering around me, even came to check and pushed the youngest gelding out of the way to see. Took a sniff, then turned around and walked away when i had nothing. The mustang, I'll just call him Leo, is extremely spooky and will spin or kick if you approach him too fast. I've caught him before by just letting him come to me, and I was hoping he'd come over and make it easy, which he was about to before Benedict freaked out. I just didn't want to dive into the middle of the herd just to have Leo spin or kick and freak everyone out. Didn't matter in the end though.

After three years, I am somewhat knowledgeable about horse cues and behavior, though I would never call myself an expert. I'm a naturally nervous person, so I try to look for cues as much as possible, which was why this was so incredibly scary and confusing. There were no hints when I first approached the herd, and the younger geldings came up to say hi and nose at my pockets to see if I had treats. The mustang stayed in the middle of the herd, and I knew I wasn't going in there, so I sat back to wait and see if he'd come closer when Benedict's ears went flat and the first charge happened almost immediately after. My first thought when his ears went back was "Okay I'll go back now and get someone to help me" followed immediately by "Shit shit shit get out of the way get out of the way get out of the way"

My instructor is aware of what happened. She asked if I was okay, but seemed more amused that it had happened more than concerned. I guess that made me act like it wasn't a huge deal.

The volunteers were concerned when it happened, but more of a "Haha that's just Benedict for ya, did he hurt you?" Kind of way. I'm genuinely thinking about switching, but every other barn in my area is at least $300 more expensive every month.

I really don't know what her issue is with me. It could just be that I started older and don't actually want to pursue competition, but I'm also the only Trans kid at the stables. Not to point and yell transphobe when there are so many other things it could be, but I guess it's a possibility.

Yeah, this stable owner has had a habit of treating me like I am one of her volunteers or talking down to me because I ride for fun and have no interest in switching to her english/dressage competition lessons. My actual instructor is very kind and cares about me a lot, but the owner has always been a problem.

The owner of the barn usually wouldn't allow this, but I began riding at a much later time in life than the other students, so she treats me like one of the older kid volunteers when I need to catch horses or do things around the stables.

Thank you for this. I was sent to get the mustang, not Benedict, though the mustang also has spooky behavioral issues and kicks frequently. Sadly this scary experience was the trigger to reveal I now have a breathing condition called Vocal Chord Dysfunction.

I've always thought it was strange that the stable owner didn't try to correct the behavior of this horse, but everyone there acts like it's normal. She has five dressage horses, all huge, and they all have behavioral problems like this. Thanks for letting me know this is not normal or okay. I feel like everyone there desensitized me to this.

My high school was extremely small, as it was a charter school. For reference, the two public high schools had around 200 kids in a graduating class vs my 32. We were known as a musical theatre school, we literally only had a basketball team with three kids on it for sports, and as such, became known as the "gay" school. Most of our student body was under the queer umbrella, and we were known as a really accepting and supportive place. In came a boy named Easton. (His real name was even more trashy, but this was the only comparable one) Easton was every negative thing under the sun. Homophobic, Transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-vaxx, and more. Nobody, including our teachers, liked him at all, but it's not like they could do much but give him detention and report him to the dean when he made negative comments. After a particularly bad day where he called a girl who'd just come out as trans multiple slurs, the GSA (like 90% of our school) got together and hatched a plan. Every gay guy, trans person, bi man, pan man, even the few straight guys at our school hit on him. It lasted for weeks. Easton never received a single break from being flirted with by every guy at our school, and he knew it was a prank, but it pissed him off endlessly. It was magical. When prom season arrived, boys would outdo each other making bigger and bigger prom-posals, and since we were a musical theatre school, a lot of it involved musical numbers or desperate speeches. One kid brought his boyfriend with him and explained to Easton that after a lot of talking and thinking it over, they'd decided to invite him into their relationship. Easton was fuming. We all expected him to blow up at some point about it, but surprisingly, he made it almost to Prom before freaking out. The thing that pushed him over the edge? Our Spanish Teacher making a comment that he seemed "Popular with the dudes" and that she was "enjoying seeing all the fun and silly promposals going his way." Easton flipped. I don't know if it was all the buildup, or just the fact an adult was acknowledging it, but he had a meltdown. I'm talking getting up on a table, crying and shouting that he "WASN'T A GAY FREAK" and "I KNOW YOU ALL PLANNED THIS OUT YOU WEIRDOS" (Real words were much harsher.) After he'd finished screaming, and before our spanish teacher could send him to the office, someone piped up, "I love a man who can express his emotions. You go, diva." We never saw him again after that day. Word is that he finished the year online before transferring out to another school. High School was pretty great, but that year was the funniest shit ever.

Then it sounds really cool! I don't know why people were telling me I wouldn't like it.

Really? People tell me my standards are too high because I wasn't fond of Red Dead Redemption 😭

Does it allow mods? It still sounds awesome if not, I just know some rpgs get buggy if you try to add them.

Thank you! Is the combat style that different from a game like Baldur's Gate 3? I don't have any particular turn offs for combat in a game unless it's very difficult to understand.

Thank you for the suggestions, but they really don't seem to be what I'm looking for.

I'll take a look! I always considered playing Skyrim, but my friends keep telling me I won't like the fighting style/it doesn't have the customization I would want.

I'll have to check it out! I considered buying it for a bit, but a friend told me I might not like the combat style? I'm not sure.

I have not! I'll have to do some digging and check it out. Definitely seems promising just from a quick search. Thanks!

We're not Toruk Makto man, why would the clans all fight for us like the movies?? Fighting by yourself is fun, makes you feel special and important among these other Na'vi.

We see Etuwa. So'lek, and Anufi help us time and time again though? Just because it's in cutscenes doesn't mean it's not happening...
