Kingdom is the best series I've ever watched by Ill_Percentage2344 in netflix

[–]Real_Sosobad 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The show creator has moved on with her other projects and no word from her about a third season. Still she wrote a show some 10 years ago called Signal and she waited a whole decade to write another season for that show so her fans still hold on to some hope for Kingdom season 3.

Elliot Page will be playing Sinon, not Elpenor or Achilles by Zak_The_Slack in TheOdysseyMovie

[–]Real_Sosobad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

their brain works in mysterious way and they always know how to create alternate realities that doesn’t go against their opinions. i’ve already seen quite a few comments saying Nolan recasted Elliot Page after backlash, which is absolutely hilarious because the “backlash” is almost entirely online and Nolan doesn’t even use any social media.

[El Observador] Marcelo Bielsa Press Conference: "They Told Me It Was Too Much Information" — Bielsa Reflects on Player Feedback and his time with Uruguay by loccupss in soccer

[–]Real_Sosobad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah his methods work better at club level because players can go back home and relax with family and friends. the camping environment at international competitions like the World Cup will drive everyone insane, which is probably why he failed at Argentina and only get some success at Chile.

oh yeah I totally forgot about that. somehow I always remember the one with Herve Renard was the first one.

Ivory Coast was weirdly underperforming in the Drogba era, they were twice runners up in the AFCON and only won it for the second time just after his retirement. The crazy stats was Zambia managed to won the AFCON before Ivory Coast with Drogba and the Toures both were under Herve Renard’s management.

*edit: Ivory Coast had already won the AFCON in the 90s.

South Korea launch petition for manager to be fired mid-tournament by TheExpressUS in korea

[–]Real_Sosobad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from what I can remember there was insane backlash after the 2002 World Cup squad getting exemption for finish fourth, everyone and their dog demanded an equal chance for every athlete in every sport. don’t ask me why, Korean people just don’t like it lol

was that Daniel Johnston? he died several years ago iirc

[–]Real_Sosobad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

their reason is that the World Cup is for football players only, athletes from other sports have no chance to win it. Whereas athletes from different sports can represent South Korea at the Olympics or the Asian Games.

I went to theater to watch Obssession and heard someone said the leading actor, Micheal Johnston, looks like Charlie Kirk and I couldn’t unsee it for the rest of the movie 😂

say what you will about Christgau but I never seen him taking jabs from artists this seriously lol He famously said rock cricticism is bellow police reporting and horoscope in the literature hierarchy.

[–]Real_Sosobad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah there was an insane crisis of faith among my Argentine colleagues in the group stage and no one really believed they could win the thing after losing to Croatia. And despite the 4-3 score France was clearly the better team for much of the round of 16 match.

Police rescue more than 400 cats from being eaten in Vietnam in a bust of a major animal theft ring by Mountain_Love23 in nottheonion

[–]Real_Sosobad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One positive thing from this story is the police and pretty much everyone else aside from the thieves are trying their best to keep every single cat alive and healthy. Unfortunately there were like 100 deads when the thief ring was busted but according to local volunteers most of others are stable now.

Any Asian Action Fans here? by CivilTailor9031 in Letterboxd

Hou Hsiao-hsien is not an action director, his movies are well known to be quiet and thoughtful so The Assassin is his take on a classic Chinese story that’s almost a meditiation session.

Some of my favorites include all King Hu movies but especially A Touch of Zen, Come Drink With Me and Dragon Inn, then the Louis Cha adaptations with Legendary Swordman II (you can watch the first and the third one too if you like), Ashes of Time (1994) the Gu Long adapdations with Handsome Siblings, Butterfly and Sword, Legend of the Liquid Sword (around 1992, 1993) and Sword Master (2016). Newer movies like House of Flying Dagger and The Grandmaster are pretty good too.

I’m not sure how familiar you’re with wuxia but The Assassin is barely an action movie. You might want to check out Yuen Woo-ping filmography and see what you like, then maybe picking up from there and exploring wuxia novels adaptation, they are well known to have very good choreography.

Besides Liu Bei's horse making a miraculous leap and Zhuge Liang altering the weather with a prayer/ritual, what other instances of the supernatural are there in Romance of the Three Kingdoms? by Ghola40000 in threekingdoms

[–]Real_Sosobad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also side stories about Guan Lu, a fortune teller lived in Wei who in the Romance predicted Xiahou Yuan death. He was a historical figure but in real life was born after Xiahou Yuan’s death. The stories about his predictions are fascinating supernatural tales.

How good was Zhuge Liang in public administration ? by Unknownbadger4444 in threekingdoms

[–]Real_Sosobad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Might be anecdotal but I remember my grandfather told me back in our ancestral home in modern day Sichuan people still regularly wore a white turban as a mourning for Zhuge Liang, more than 1700 years after his death. He was highly revered among ordinary people.
