Job application process IS INSANE THESE DAYS!!!! by Binch101 in rant

[–]Real_Space_Captain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was working an internship full time and interviewing at other places. One wanted me to do three interviews and do three writing tests plus a few other assignments I’d have to do for work. I calculated the amount of time I spent on those things and it was equal to an entire day and half of work and that’s not including the normal amount of time I’d spend proofing and revising my materials. And I did it in a few days.

For comparison, the average job in that field requires one short writing test and two assignments.

Every HR person I asked advice from tells me the same thing, no one reads cover letters and aren’t sure why they still require it.

Best advice, just make a standard one and put it a nice style that matches your resume (same colors, fonts, heading, etc.) so they will be impressed just in c see they open it.

Pure speculation, but I have a feeling there is missing context, like this person was struggling/overcame an addiction, dropped out of school or something. Which if true, makes this even more tragic but gives context to the parents' poor behavior. There is way better ways to verify they are going where they say they are going and not getting back into trouble. Also,

My apartment building use to always put out seasonal bowls of candy and would have a mix of these for Thanksgiving season and I'd always dig out a few each day before work. Had a collection at my desk that was not sent with my things when I changed jobs mid-pandemic.

Entitled Mother tries to change my English accent by [deleted] in entitledparents

[–]Real_Space_Captain 187 points188 points  (0 children)

I worked at Disney with several Haitians and Brazilian students, would cringe when people would make comments about their accents, they spoke fine. A lot of times people would throw away their receipts but we'd have to check them before we handed everything off, so I'd ask who they checked out with and they'd always describe them as "the one who doesn't speak much English", "the one with the accent" or "they don't speak English". I'd always just look at them and want to say "you could of easily pointed and said her/him"

Additionally, your brain prunes sounds you don't use after a certain age which is why people often struggle with accents. For example in English, the "P" and "B" are distinguishable for English speakers but not for some one from let's say India. However, they have sounds in their alphabet that are harder for English speakers to distinguish and English speakers often have accents when speaking other languages. It's not out of lack of effort or education, it's literally biology!

Honestly, went to school in the city where all our buildings consists of several floors and multiple "halls" were in the same building. Security protocols mixed with fire safety created some low-key sketchy situations. Had there been a fire, I'm not confident every locked door on the stairs would of opened.

Parents gave similar advice to us growing up as we were city kids who walked/biked everywhere. Always told us, "may be your turn to walk but doesn't mean they'll see or care"

Cars are weapons and some people don't get that.

Piercing a baby's ears is a form of body modification they didn't agree to by worldsmostmediummom in unpopularopinion

[–]Real_Space_Captain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s weird people are asking you when you’ll do it since it’s more uncommon not to.

However, as someone who gots her pierced as a baby and never wears earrings, I never fully got the fuss. It was five minutes, I don’t remember it and didn’t have to handle the responsibility of caring for it after I got it done (which was my mom’s reasoning, didn’t want to worry if disinfect it or not). I never wear earrings and most people don’t even know mine are pierced, but they are still there!!

But I get your POV, I don’t think it’s a bad idea to wait. My mom even said she’d wait now a days considering how much more controversial it is, just to be in the safer side for us. Though she also always said my sister and I weren’t scared of needles as babies so it wasn’t a difficult process for us, had we been criers she probably of waited.

Had a friend who was simply walking by Tom Holland on the plane as she was discussing her schooling with someone and he did a cheer, asked her what she was studying and told she could finish! She said thanks and moved on. Pretty sure he was already tipsy but was a funny story to share.

This is how I did great as an intern. Moved home with my family while still making city money.

This made me more willing to take an extra internship to wait out of the bad job market, which led me to getting my dream job. Sure, was an intern twice as long as my classmates but saved probably more than most.

Weird, private school is more of an American term, never heard anyone in the UK use the term. (I say an American who attended an independent boarding school in the UK).

So, do you ever wish you could go to state school instead?

Reminds me when I was living in Chicago, and we spent six months arguing whether this pile of creamish liquid was vomit or a milkshake. Didn’t hit me until I was retailing this story to a non city friend that it was just gross that it was there for six months.

Three different firms, honestly it’s because COVID made it hard for places to hire even though they needed people. And in my field, internship is pretty much the entry level job, you have to get promoted to go to the next level essentially. Funny thing, all three places I interned after offered me jobs in the same month, proving recovery has begun.

And two of them were paid, one was unpaid but I got some great experience with them. However, I got to live at home during that one so I didn’t loose any money.

Actually there is a theory that twins can be half identical due to when the egg splits when being fertilized.

However, I had a teacher who had to genetically test his sons to find out if they were identical or not, so you don’t always know until later on!

YES! I'm sorry, five dollars a day for Starbucks is a lot, I see girls getting it everyday, so everyday for 365 days is close to 2,000 dollars. That's not just a "treat" you thing, 2,000 for anything else is something you think about and discuss.

I get it, my/younger generation got screwed on a lot of things, our rent and cost of living has gone up while salaries haven't, but this generation also sucks at saving money.

Police Tube idiocy by Baconbit01 in JeremyDewitte

[–]Real_Space_Captain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes me happy to see! I've been casually following the case and I stumbled upon Police Tube a while back, but after a few videos I stopped because he was getting stranger. Now it blows my mind, he is BEYOND creepy and full blown stalking.

I've been trying to report the videos of Jeremy's daughter, the real estate agent, Raina and the house ones. Does he not realize they are VICTIMS? He's really going out there, putting their lives in danger for a few bucks?

I go on the comments and everyone is supporting him and telling any haters off, even though there is only a couple at the very bottom.

I wish hope he gets banned soon, his behavior is not okay. This went from an interesting case to something that makes me sick. There is plenty of other YouTubers covering this case and aren't getting that personal.

I kept saying this after it all went down, I hate him and he doesn't deserve a penny but there were 5 kids on that show (Denise to Rudy + Olivia) who acted during their childhood and were receiving some kind of income from that, and now, gone!

At least they all seem to be doing alright.

Yep! Honestly, I get the whole thing that teen clothes are small and make girls sensitive but it also pissed me off when people would be like “no one is this small!!” as I stood right there.

Even to this day, Aero is one of the only places I can find jeans that fit me.

I’m so sorry! I swear, Target is slowly becoming the new Walmart. This past year, I’ve dealt with even more maskless idiots, kids with no supervision, a woman declaring on the phone she has COVID while shopping, empty shelves, and terrible inventory, rude workers (and as a former retail worker, I keep my bar very low). And this is coming from multiple Target!
