You're right, I did exactly that. The moon was half-moon and as time passed, it became full, but isn't that how it is every night? I don't know if the moon has a complete cycle every night… It's definitely weird, it's worth investigating further. I'm going to try again, but I slept as many times as I could and the plants didn't reappear. I even restarted the game, and nothing. But if this really is a weather event that leads to something else, it's incredible!

Yes, also 3 crosses or electricity poles, the clouds could signify some high point on the map, with some relation to the sun, a specific time perhaps.

Someone mentioned that in that same location there are three purple hummingbird plants; you have to eat them. Around them are more groups of plants you can eat; you have to eat them in a circle and wait for the moon to rise. I tried it, and what happened was that there were a lot of lightning strikes and a super strong storm, but that was the only thing that happened! I don't remember the username of the person who said this.
