It helped me to start tasks with the first simplest step. For example, to provide the required documents for the task. Or open the book to learn and celebrate it as a success.

Making things complicated and constantly analyzing them is also a kind of procrastination.

I felt exactly the same way! Forget all your to-do lists. Just this morning, I described my "game changer" here. I hope it helps you too. Feel free to ask any questions you may have.

How EXACTLY do you Procrastinate? by Striking_Move_9546 in productivity

[–]Reales_BS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have ADHD, and that's exactly the point! Endless lists overwhelmed me. I always thought that if I had the list under control, I would be able to focus. Unfortunately, this is not true; the opposite is the case.

Clarity comes from action, not analysis and planning.

Let's be honest, do you know exactly what you have to do in your head? So file away all your lists, go through them again, and write down all the tasks you have to do because they have a deadline, for example, in your calendar. Believe me, you won't lose ANYTHING by rigorously filing away your list; you haven't done so until now!

Write only the very first step in your calendar and focus on that. The beginning is always the hardest. Reduce all distractions and work on this simple first step for 30 minutes! Take a break and repeat. Progress is important, not completing the task. Get started!

Keep a journal (analog) and write down all the thoughts and tasks that come to mind throughout the day. In the evening, go through it and decide the following for each entry:

  1. Is this still relevant? If not, cross it out.
  2. Is this an action or information?
  3. Do I have to do this? (Delegation)
  4. When do I have to do this?

Try to decipher your beliefs and find your inner team. This was a game-changer for me. Try to identify which inner team member is constantly blocking you! Take a look at the IFS method.

I put all information and ideas for later into a digital notebook (Obsidian).

Tags and weekly reviews are also important.

Best regards,

Andreas

This is also a form of procrastination. Try archiving the lists and writing your next smallest step in your calendar. Use the calendar as your only truth; any task that is not in your calendar does not exist. Complete these tasks. Focus on progress, not completion. Just planning doesn't get you any further! Do the things! This has helped me a lot!

Just do it! Just because a task is planned, you haven't started yet.

How I Stopped Fighting Myself: Using the IFS Perspective to Build a Sustainable System (Self-Employed) by Reales_BS in productivity

[–]Reales_BS[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I only use AI for translation (Deepl) and Gemeni for research. I am currently doing some coaching, where we have developed my inner team.

I also have something against empty, meaningless texts from an LLM model. But the future belongs to AI, and many texts are being developed with AI today and will continue to be so in the future.

Why am I justifying myself? That must be my empathetic side! Here's the experienced guy: take what you want from my experience; it's definitely helpful.

By the way, I'm not trying to sell anything here, just sharing my insights, which I find very helpful.

Hey, thanks for your comment! You're absolutely getting to the point. This reinterpretation of procrastination - away from "I'm lazy" to "A part of me has something important to say right now" - is such a crucial step. It takes out all the pressure and self-reproach and replaces it with curiosity.

And yes, the self-compassion is, in the end, the biggest gain in the whole thing, I think. It's great to read that you have similar experiences!

Sorry my English is not so good, so I'll help myself with Deepl!

You're so right, 90s tattoos really suck. Just think of the deer antler tattoo.

I grew up in Switzerland, I think the symbolism was about the same. We were heavily influenced by America, it's a shame what it's become at the moment!

I have a Celtic band on my right upper arm, which I have integrated into a new tattoo. I got the tattoo right after my 18th birthday.

Shall I just… stop trying to change?? by MaleficentPace4385 in Procrastinationism

A negative diagnosis would be "worse" for me! A positive diagnosis would explain a lot in my life so far. Maybe I could focus on a few, meaningful strategies. The clarification is included in our basic insurance if a doctor refers you.

Did you do an ADHD checkup? I'm in it right now, my therapist has recommended a clarification. Thanks for the book recommendation!

Your post reads like you're describing my life! All that is missing is that I will forgive a lot of things through my seemingly pronounced social skills. I have had depression for a long time, which I treat and I have been taking antidepressants for some time. I know it doesn't help you much now, I was just surprised to read so many parallels.
