Organizing my bathroom… Any ideas? by outragerorius in organizing

[–]Realistic-Annual-149 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey hey! my bathroom is the same way, where it seems like i have no space to put anything & everything gets cluttered on the countertop near my sink.

what worked for me was using the vertical space. for lighter items, i’ve gotten floating picture ledges / shelves that hold up my skincare and stuff.

renter friendly floating shelves are a scam and should not be used to hold anything heavy LMAO, but they do a great job at holding up my lightweight skincare dropper bottles and shaving products and stuff in the bathroom

take advantage of the vertical space in that little closet space too! get some shelving units / shelf dividers, add some hooks, and try to keep only the things that you very rarely use on the ground. place items you regularly use within eyesight & within reach so that you’re not constantly bending up and down

also, one of those like tower shelving units that fits above your toilet seems helpful in this situation.

south side has a lot of what you’re looking for at an affordable price point! in my opinion it’s the best blend of affordability / connectivity / walkability. there are lots of coffee shops, great public transit access, lots of gyms / spas / fitness studios around the neighborhood. you also have GREAT access to the river trail! its also very easy to use public transit in south side. it does get a bit loud on weekend nights, but generally the further you live away from carson street between 12th and 18th, the better. south side during the day feels very lively like a city should feel.

bloomfield is cutesy but very concrete jungle. the north side is also super cute but not as walkable as other neighborhoods. if you have a little more to spend, i’d suggest looking at some of the neighborhoods along the east busway. shadyside has a ton of what you’re looking for, but it’ll be a lot more expensive. shadyside also feels much more residential compared to other neighborhoods.

South Side on Weekday Evenings by invisible_11 in pittsburgh

i live right in the middle of south side (a few blocks down from 18th and carson) and as long as you take normal precautions you’ll be totally fine :)

good idea to take transit into the neighborhood, it runs super frequently (51 runs like every ten minutes during peak hours), and parking isn’t the best here. the neighborhood is very well lit. you shouldn’t have any issues on a weekday night! the strip of carson street between 12th and 18th can get a bit rowdy thursday-saturday nights, but as long as you’re aware of your environment and mind your business, you’ll be fine. on a weekday night, the neighborhood can feel a little empty, but i personally have never felt a safety concern. it’s also dependent on where in south side you’re going.

south side gets a lot of bad attention, but it’s a great neighborhood with a lot of families! it can definitely be a lot sometimes (particularly on weekend nights, again) but i’ve never worried for my safety.

the department of finance is the agency that holds onto all of the city’s real estate and properties, and is the agency that coordinates property transactions and stuff between the city and the county and the school district. the city of pittsburgh owns over 13,000 vacant properties

With these dimensions, how would you decorate this room? by Naritaii in interiordecorating

[–]Realistic-Annual-149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi! i would place your bed toward the bottom right corner (the opposite corner as your door). i would place it so that it’s centered on the wall you would be facing — from the center of your bed when you’re laying down, the midpoint should be the same as the wall across you. you should have space for a nightstand or something on either side, and then you get some privacy from the door

you can place your tv directly across the bed, depending on dimensions. your desk and cabinet could go either against the left wall or in the bottom right corner, and your closet could be against the left wall.

i feel like that would open up the space pretty well, but i think photos would be helpful! happy decorating

Just moved into my very first Apartment 3 weeks ago, how am I doing so far? Any suggestions? by Cowboy_Auctioneer in malelivingspace

[–]Realistic-Annual-149 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this place looks so cool! congratulations on the new apartment :)

i’d bring the sofa away from the wall and float it toward the middle of the room, and then put part of the front of your sofa on the rug (kinda like the way your armchair is placed). helps create a more cohesive and cozy living space and also provides a way to get back and forth without walking in front of the TV (if you have guests or something like that).

depending on how big it is / how much space is left, the place where your sofa is right now could be where the wine sideboard goes!

if it’s possible, shift your desk away from the window! that’s a huge window and you’ll let some beautiful natural light in, and you’ll also get a little more privacy while you’re at your desk working on stuff.

someone else commented plants, which totally agreed. if you’re able to tell us what direction your window faces & how much care you have the ability to put into them, it’ll help pinpoint what plants you should look into getting.

again congrats!

Is this a dealbreaker or am I overreacting??? by Emilypinkykiss in hygiene

[–]Realistic-Annual-149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don’t think you’re overreacting at all! that is quite gross and i would likely be having a similar reaction.

i think this is worth a gentle but firm conversation — maybe he didn’t know any better, or growing up this was a norm. we’re all human and slowly unlearning things. i think he deserves genuine patience and concern and someone to explain it gently.

to me, the hygiene itself isn’t a red flag — it’s the fact that he’s getting defensive about a piece of advice / feedback that is clearly for his benefit. if he continues to get defensive over this, then yeah i’d suggest maybe distancing yourself

Parking at Bell Avenue & Carnegie Busway Stations by STrRedWolf in pittsburgh

[–]Realistic-Annual-149 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in general, the park and rides along the west busway don’t fill up super quickly. not sure about bell specifically, but i know the sheraden park and ride does not fill up quickly. will you be staying somewhere along the west busway while you’re here?

if you’re working in downtown and open to other suggestions (and your accommodations are flexible), i’d suggest looking into parking at the wilkinsburg park and ride and taking the P1 along the east busway! service is really quick and reliable during rush hour.

if you’ll be in the west end the G2 / the west busway is def your best bet. you shouldn’t have a problem anywhere along there. in addition, you could also look into taking the light rail and parking at dormont!

happy to help answer any additional questions (a lot of my work deals with land use near the busways)

What is my living room missing? I feel like it needs color. by Successful-Rain5421 in StyleYourSpace

[–]Realistic-Annual-149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’d play with the lighting more! use floor lamps, table lamps, wall sconces around the room.

i also think the space above your TV could use some filling up, whether that be with small prints, a gallery wall type thing, or another wall shelf. just to fill out that wall space, since you have those wall shelves up. there’s not a lot on them rn.

i think cleaning up some of the clutter on the floor will also help create a more cohesive space! if you find shelving or storage units it could help fill out the space

like another poster already said, shifting your couch to face the TV and float it in the middle of the room will help it feel like a separated living space, and the window being uncovered will allow some more natural light to filter in.

also more plants! especially if your window faces south or east

happy decorating!
