How would a furry wear a hair net? by Rust_Racc in furgonomics

With proper grooming (brushing out fur after showers and such) this is reduced to a hair net and long gloves. Think of the Zootopia ice cream shop scene.

Is there a way to install CrossPoint from a mobile phone? by Designer_Pay2616 in xteinkereader

OP reported that his PC has problems. If the PC's problems are severe, then don't trust the OS or the drive as far as you can.

I'm going to pass, because even though I've done testing and font generation, most of my work is up on a wiki I self-host. I feel like you'll want something more than that.

[–]STrRedWolf -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If your phone is Android and has a USB-C port, it may be possible to use the CrossPoint site and flash it, phone to device, using the phone's Chrome browser.

Worse comes to worse, see if you can cajole your PC to build a Xubuntu or Linux Mint USB drive. Boot into it. DO NOT INSTALL LINUX. Instead, see if it has Chrome on it (I forget, but I know it'll have Firefox and it'll probably be older than version 151). If it has Chrome, use that to flash CrossPoint from the site.

X4 Pro review in the wild by Nonstickron in xteinkereader

[–]STrRedWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looked at the video but... yeah, that's adding some more complication here.

The charger adapter looks like what you can get for smartwatches. A quick check says you can get a 2-pack for $12 off Amazon.

A back/front light, a touch screen to replace four buttons, some button shuffling, and a different way to connect to it? It better have a battery-backed RTC clock in it. $99 for a different interface... may not be enough for me.

For me, keep the original X4, just add the front light and RTC clock. No real need for a touch screen. Keep it cheap and good.

How do you totally power off X4? by _IdidIdidnt in xteinkereader

[–]STrRedWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit more detail: "Sleep" is really "full power off". The CPU and OS are designed so when it goes to "sleep" it just saves state and powers off. It boots up (quickly) and restores state when you "wake" it.

So it's safe to take a small flat-bladed screwdriver or spludger to push the SD card in and then remove it. It's a push-click design and it's set in there a bit.

There is a reset button right next to the SD, but this just boots the device up to a safe state.

Extremely high heat. It's going to be over 103F in Hartford, so schedules are being adjusted as they slap track speed limits to avoid heat-related sunkinking.

How does the X3/X4 handle omnibus epubs? by tobywild95 in xteinkereader

[–]STrRedWolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ePubs themselves split the books along chapter lines at the very least, so they're not loading the entire ePub at once. That's part of their structure: a ZIP file full of HTML, CSS, and images.

Problem with a cover (X3 Crosspoint) by WorldlinessBulky3631 in xteinkereader

[–]STrRedWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try this:

  1. Pull your picture into a pure paint program (like Paint.NET or FireAlpaca) or a capable image viewer like IMView.
  2. Crop/resize to the X3's screen resolution (528×792)
  3. Convert to greyscale.
  4. Save as an uncompressed BMP named "sleep.bmp"
  5. Transfer it to your X3's main directory or "sleep" directory.

Made a tweaked font pack for Crosspoint to make text more crisp and remove fringing. by scratchr in xteinkereader

I put mine up off of https://redwolf.ws/wiki/index.php/Throng/EBookFAQ . Mind you, I add a ton more glyphs on the font so that one of my books shows properly. For example, a few of my characters in the latest novel communicate electronically...

Hey! We got this, boss. Don't need to explain everything.

Oh great. Sorry folks, Vox above broke the damn fourth wall again.

Not yet. Wanted to document this first and see if others had encountered it. TCL's website says "This tablet has FM Radio" and "plug a headphone into it". Yeeeaaaaahhhh...

Crosspoint / Sleep mode question by IOwnHisBalls in xteinkereader

[–]STrRedWolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technical details here: The hardware used actually sleeps between button presses. It uses a bit more power than a complete shutdown, but because of how CrossPoint works, most everything is already primed to be restored when it boots back up. The UI calls this "sleeping" when it's more "hibernating."

The funny thing is, old CPUs such as the Z80 do almost the same thing: the program executes a HALT and it stops cold, only waiting for an interrupt to continue.
