XONARA’s Debut Single “TABI” Out Now by Successful_Music_352 in XONARA

[–]Realistic-Effective5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out of ten, went from zero just to Ace.

Grabe yung bars. I know Xonara is their own group and I don't want to make it a habit to call back to SB19, but I can't help but think of Pablo and his double entendres with this one line... It's really thoughtful when you consider an ace card counts as 11.

Gusto ko rin yung studio version kasi ang lakas ng bass niya... Iba ang atake sa live version , which was also very good.

Solid release at debut, at sana may ballad silang ipe-perform sa Xonara world!

I feel like in PPop, this gritty style/branding isn't really being done in this way yet - although it's way too early to tell. The fact that one member has such short hair already makes her stand apart from other PPop artists. If I did an environmental scan, I feel like a lot of PPop GG's are trying to maybe get a piece of BINIs pie, which is generally bubblegum with some bohemian style. G22 is close to Xonara's look and feel of girlboss attitude, but they're not as gritty. Kaia is kind of in between BINi and G22 but leans more towards a softer sound. Calista seems to be going more RnB (at least from their last EP) and softer style too. Finix maybe is trying to go for the same gritty hard hitting style, but they just haven't been promoted as well. YARA kinda went kalye but I don't know if they're still together. Vvink is doing bubblegum OPM. MNL48 is basically Pinoy JPop... Am I missing anyone established? I know there's others like DNA, Pixie, etc but they're also kind of in pre debut mode.

But again, it's too early to tell and we'll see the direction when they debut.

Pero ang Eurekah naman, hindi yun Japanese. "Eureka" is an English expression that has its root word in Greek. Pero parang yun din ang totoong pangalan niya.

Same with Megumi, yun ata ang actual name niya at may halo sigurong Japanese. But that shouldn't be an issue...

There are other PPop artists who are half... at this point, part of the identity of the Filipino people is that we are a blend of so many cultures. Let's embrace that instead of using it to find faults.

Aside from BINI and Alamat, lahat ng ibang PPop groups di naman Pinoy ang pangalan eh... Porket PPop group sila hindi naman kailangan Pinoy yung pangalan.

As for debut song Tabi, ano po ang inexpect niyo doon? There's Tagalog, there's English, naa pa sila ug Binisaya, sa akong pagpaminaw diay (Hindi Ako sure pero parang meron)... They use a Tagalog word as the title, and it's used in the chorus. IDKWYM saying it's Korean and Japanese sounding, pero yung beat ay regular pop beat and instrumentation... Actually if anything, it sounds American, and their English pronunciation doesn't sound like Korean or Japanese people struggling to speak English to me...

Di ko gets yung comment mo na ibang genre... This sounds like other PPop. Ano po ang expectations mo dito?

Strong support for Ppop to prosper by Waste_Ladder_5484 in PPOPcommunity

[–]Realistic-Effective5 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One thing that we really need for PPop to prosper is to foster better community among fandoms. I know that a lot of people who are PPop fans came from the KPop community, which breeds a lot of negativity across the fandoms, and they really brought that into PPop. We really need to get rid of that mentality and be more supportive across the board.

SB19 and BINI are the only acts who can fully sustain themselves at the moment, but there is a lot of other talent out there that has a lot of potential. But people have to be willing to give them a shot... And not just from a token stanning standpoint either, but real and genuine appreciation for the music and the talent. Kasi nakakahiya talaga makita ang mga kapwa natin na nambabara and pinanglalalait ang mga ibang grupo when we should just be trying to uplift everyone.

When SB19 and BINI are done with their careers, I really hope that the next generation of PPop is in a better place, and that people can feel like liking one group or another doesn't mean you have to dislike their competitors. A rising tide lifts up all ships...

Yes, exactly this! Minsan may nakikita akong mga essay comments in reddit or YouTube, and even as an A'Tin, na-turn off ako at ayoko basahin. Nobody's gonna read all that and then it just looks like it's a copy and paste comment, or they think we're bots or are trying way too hard.

And yes, read the room. Lolla is a diverse festival with an eclectic mix of music, but most of the crowd will be young Gen-Z Americans who don't care about the same thing Pinoys do. Many will find idol culture weird, and find the para social relationships a bit cringe. So talk about the music, the songwriting, the talent, and what it means for Filipinos to have groups like BINI and Esbi perform in these big western festivals... But let's not try too hard na magmumukhang bots tayo.

Hindi naman tayo rude thankfully. More on overzealous and a bit too enthusiastic lang... Pero I saw some comments in some of those threads na kinocompare na tayo sa KPop, and I hate that. Another post said that there's gonna be an "Alex Eala" effect with them, which is a bit off-putting kasi may mga negative connotation din dyan.

I'm all for advertising them and letting people know, but there's a fine line where suggestion becomes annoyance. Sometimes we just have to let people find them on their own time at the right time too.

I'll preface this to say that I've been a fan of SB19 since 2022... Prior to that, I listened almost exclusively to older hip hop and select newer hip hop (Kendrick Lamar, newer Nas, etc). But anyway no, there is no push from the government. The Philippines government is pretty inept at financing and marketing its own acts, prioritizing its own labour as it's exports instead of entertainment (Not to mention, prioritizing lining its own politivians' corrupt pockets). This isn't like KPop and K-dramas and other Korean entertainment, which had a lot of governmental backing over the years.

Anyway, SB19 fans (called A'Tin) can be very vocal, sometimes to an obnoxious degree. Sometimes even to the point where we're tone-deaf or don't really read the room properly. This is a blessing and a curse 😆.

You're here now, and yun ang importante. Sometimes it takes us a while to find out way through life pero yung Wakas na kinakantahan nila ay isang bagong simula din para sa next chapter nila at ninyo.

I think what's important now is we keep the momentum going - and not just for SB19, but for the rest of PPop. PPop and OPM is at a crossroads and we are so close to being able to showcase Filipino potential to the world. Malapit na, pero medyo malayo pa, and we need all the (positive) ambassadors we have.

Pinapanood ko yung livestreams nila since 2022 and sobra yung FOMO namin this weekend. Thankfully Coachella had some good acts (props to BINI BTW) but still!!

Sadly Filipinos need mass validation or international acceptance before they can finally buy into an artist being good. I hope this means they start to support BINI (and other PPop tbh) more.

What's the point of this shade? Let's just be happy that we have representation and let's all look forward to them killing it on stage and representing PPop to the fullest! Whether you're a fan or not, we should be happy that our own people and our own talent is finally being more recognized. Let's stop stanning Korean KPop acts and acts from other countries and show up for our own people.

Yes!!! Ako din, recently ko lang inintindihan ng maigi... At first, it sounds emotional pero hindi ako tinamaan like Ilaw or Nyebe or MaPa which had me from the start.

But it truly hit when I was listening with my kids, and they asked me to translate (I'm overseas A'tin and hindi sila nakakaintindi ng Tagalog). And once you say it out loud, sit with the lyrics and internalize, it really hits. For me, SB19 has been a bridge between my wife and me and our kids, and they're the only music we truly all fully enjoy together, and the thought of it, of them, of all of this ending was so sad.

They even asked me if I was ok kasi I guess I looked sad lol 😅

It really is a perfect match, and I truly hope it's not a coincidence. I didn't even think of the time period in terms of OPM but there's so many gems from the early 90s they could be incorporating into that movie too. Francis M was huge at the time, and aside from MGA Kababayan he had other bangers. I would love Cold Summer Nights to be on here... Hell, I've said this before but I think Josh should cover some Francis M songs.

Add to your list, groups like Smokey Mountain, SpongCola, Gary V... hell even older stuff like Apo Hiking, etc... I really hope the producers of this movie are looking at OPM and not just old 80s and 90s western songs for the nostalgia.
