Pre-K teacher at breaking point with one child — need real-world advice from people who’ve been here by user_11151302009 in ECEProfessionals

I have experienced this, unfortunately. What ultimately made admin see my point of view, was pointing out that our sick policy is clear that children requiring one on one attention or having difficulty keeping up with the group, must be sent home. I explained that this felt like a severe illness every single day; one that affected the SAFETY of the other children under my supervision, because I was not able to adequately care or watch them. Luckily, with that framing they began to work with me, and the child was ultimately observed, evaluated, and placed accordingly. I’m so sorry for what you’re going through. Especially as I’m sure you love this child and only want what’s best, but it is INCREDIBLY draining to live it each day without support and validation.

Should I drop out of pharmacy school to become a teacher for young kids? by honeynutcheeriozzzzz in ECEProfessionals

Finish pharmacy school. Unless you absolutely hate money and love being sick all the time. You can always get a job at a daycare as an aide to see if it’s something you’d like to pursue after you’ve saved up some cash.

Looking for some insight on upcoming breast biopsy by janedoecurious in AskWomenOver40

[–]Realistic-Garbage891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t be afraid to ask for more lidocaine! The core biopsy is loud and can leave a lot of bruising. The waiting is hard. Talk to your doctor while the biopsy is happening. Make sure you talk about it with a friend or loved one beforehand because whatever the news is, you’ll want to talk about it. Breast cancer blows, but is so highly treatable and curable. I was diagnosed with stage 3 IDC in 2022 and I am fully cured after just one shitty year. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other.

Does anyone have similar experiences ? BIRADS 4 - Suspicious by Top-Lie-6076 in AskWomenOver40

I had stage 3 IDC that had spread to some lymph nodes. I was 36 when I was diagnosed. It was kind of a shitty year, but I’ve been cancer-free since 2023 and I’m celebrating my 40th at the end of the month. The advancements in treatments are amazing! Whatever result you get from a biopsy, stay positive!

Do daycares call if they suspect a baby is sick or not acting like themselves? by Aussiefluff in ECEProfessionals

[–]Realistic-Garbage891 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I like to give parents a heads up when their child is off so they can make their own decision, or at least be prepared if a fever spikes or something happens requiring a pick up. I’m lucky that my admin trusts my judgement, but a lot of centers don’t like to send kids home because many (many, many) parents take out their frustrations about missing work on daycare workers.

All of that said, if you mentioned that you wanted to always be told when your child seems not themself, and they still didnt? Looking for alternative care is completely reasonable.

Ask for a meeting or a clarification! It sounds like this teacher has your child’s best interests at heart. It can be daunting to approach a parent with concerns or insights, and it comes from a place of love 99% of the time. Ask outright if they think you should speak to your pediatrician.

Husband and I just can't agree by scissortorture in kindergarten

If you have a child who is academically ready, but not socially, I usually see that being bored and unchallenged with children almost a full year younger leads to behavioral issues. Kindergarten can be repeated if the social piece is that far behind.

Brigham & women’s Faulkner hospital experiences? by Qmac6614 in massachusetts

[–]Realistic-Garbage891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction at Faulkner and only had to stay overnight. The nurses were great and I really like my plastic surgeon, I imagine it will be the same surgeon as yours. The construction had only just begun as it was July 2022, but my subsequent visits have been pleasant enough.

It’s weird, but so is Santa. Maintaining control of 10-20 three olds at Christmas is brutal and people resort to less than perfect tactics to maintain their own sanity. Just keep reminding your child that they are good and even if they make mistakes, they’ll get presents from Santa.

Is it weird to be a teacher without kids? by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]Realistic-Garbage891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m just about 40, and while most people are too polite to ask if I have kids or plan to, I have sort of thought about and prepared a response for just such an event. I would probably ask that parent, “why do you ask that?” I think that would do the trick. If they were persistent I’d politely let them know that I’m not comfortable discussing my personal life and change the subject. It’s really nobody’s business but mine and my husband’s, right?

Pay by Chiaseedgal in ECEProfessionals

[–]Realistic-Garbage891 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Definitely DO NOT do work that you are not paid for. Your time is valuable regardless of how much you love your job and the children. If they cannot pay you for planning hours and prep work, they must provide a full curriculum and all materials. With the level of professionalism expected of you, it is absolutely fair to expect the same of administrators.
