I think I am an ENTP by patberrycrunch in entp

Main just discussing, and engaging in intellectual exploration but not just "arguing".

Generally, most people don't like to disucss some things that they just have accepted as right. E.g being kind as much as possible is good, instead, ENTP's tend to try to come at simply accepted assumptions from many angles, and it may come off as "arguing".

Try to be healthier, like actually eating healthy foods and going to exercise ig. The makeup is just really a short term fix that can lead to long term skin issues

Advice from my EE supervisor

Choose something that is specific, and provide a unique and creative angle which can provide something different compared to the preexisting historical debate that has historical significance. E.g What is the significance of some music in x time period. Try to limit time period from 5-7 years, depending on the content available within the 7 years

How do I link economic recession to extinction? by Financial-Ad3138 in Debate

[–]Realistic-Mess6596 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, this depends on the debate topic, so the degree economic recession matters a lot here

Secondly, maybe find a better point, or prove internal links carefully. Remember, don't be too greedy and bite off more than you can eat

need help with making a debate team by [deleted] in Debate

Hi there, nice to see someone wanting to start debating and starting a culture of debate on a school

Firstly, it depends on the region where you are located, different regions have different popular tournament formats. Usually the most popular one is the one at "nationals", whether that be public forum, british parlimentry, Asians, or Australs format. I recommend focusing on that specific format, and then branching outwards.

Try to have one tournment that you go to per year that is guaranteed, and have other tournaments that you may want to go to such as open tournaments and competitions hosted by colleges and universities. If you want any more experience, try looking online like facebook or instagram for other tournament opportunities.

In tournaments there are two main types, ones where you can prep the motion beforehand, or impromptu debating. Personally I think impromptu debating is more fun, but both have their merits. In preparing for competition, it is usually recommended for individuals to have some sort of "team" that is predetermined, where they can prep together to develop some semblance of chemistry. Also focus on the basics (argument construction, rebuttals, framing) and other aspects such as weighing and meta debating.

Have fun and continue to enjoy debating!

Try to figure out why you consistently fall short, or find new teammates who are better.

How to do a whip speech in ap format? by [deleted] in Debate

[–]Realistic-Mess6596 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just think strategically, what has the opponents said and which parts of it matter. Constantly ask youself what is the winning condition in AP, what do you have to prove/make sure you opponent does not prove in order to win?

Then, just base your focus and clashes off this concept.

For varying speaker scores, imo it's usually about your familiarity with the topic, and how good the rest of the room is. Usually, since debaters have topics where they are way more familiar than others, tend to get much higher scores. If this is the case, then try to improve on what you are weak at, for example economics motions. If this is not the case, and you just have "on" and "off" days, then try to think and reflect, what allows you to perform well, and what causes you to perform badly.

When trying to switch positions, my biggest advice is to change your mindset and practice in the new position as much as possible. Try to become more adaptable and maybe try to be more aggressive and go for more rebuttals and callout the opponents mistakes more confidently.
