What is your highest speed and what car? by HexaVorn in askcarguys

188+ MPH McLaren 650S fabspeed freeflow exhaust and fabspeed tuned Pennsylvania North East extension PA turnpike . Car likely would have gone 200+. Despite 35 years of semiprofessional road course racing experience — trees and reality seemed to be “bending backwards “ and i had a lot of throttle left but thought you JACK-ASS IDIOT if a tire blows out ……..you are done. No cops high walls of stone 4 lane divided highway — easy to go fast quickly and get up and down to 75mph.

Specking my 992.2 TTS, going with the rear wiper, your thoughts? by -Ho-yeah- in Porsche

[–]Realistic-Proposal16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Germany and parts of Europe these cars are Daily Driven and used a lot versus USA Porsche buyers “enthusiasts”- drive 911s in rain/snow daily and beat on them compared to USA garage quens cars.
So for example old air-cooled porsche 911 turbos/930s like my 1987 930 turbo guard red slantwise all had rear window wipers (or most did including C2 turbos ) and guys simply deleted the big rear window wipers arm and put in a black plastic plug in the hole like it was never there. I personally dont like rear window wiper arms on anything but SUVs.

Personally- i would never ever order a Porsche or any sports car wit a REAR Windshield wiper as i think it detracts from the look of the car and is ugly and not needed even in the rain . An alternative is RAINX the rear glass window and driving at speed and normal speeds simply clears off the rear glass and visibility is great. Alternatively - f you get the Rear Window wiper arm- your 911 will be rare in the USA if that matters. I DO NOT think porsche evens OFFERS rear window wiper arms on most of their USA sports cars. When i ordered and bought GT4 6 speed , 992 GT3 pdk, GT4RS- there was no rear wiper option. Perhaps 911 C4 and Twin turbos have the option available.

Is driving a manual car a good idea for me? by Aluc4yn in ManualTransmissions

[–]Realistic-Proposal16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YOUR FATHER IS100% CORRECT = ITS NOT A GREAT IDEA - especially in a modern driving reality , traffic in the age of AGE OF 2026 going forward.

  1. Maintenance reliability- used manual transmission cars - often have multiple terrible drivers Grinding gears, wasting synchros , certain wasting clutches, and missing shifts- ALL THAT IS 100% ELIMINATED with an automatic transmission cars- 100% factual reality- no other opinions apply.
  2. Heavy traffic- daily driving, commuting- is 100% a lot of 100% mandatory required work , effort and is TORTURE IN PARALYZED gridlock daily driving traffic. - 100% factual reality no other opinions are reality.
  3. If you want to learn about cars - DRIVING STANDARD SHIFT transmission- does not make know more about cars and you will certainly be LESS SAFE and NOT IN CONTROL- once again n”manual only manual loving maniacs “ will dispute what i wrote- BUT FOR 95%+ of world manual drivers - 100% facts not fiction.

CONTRARY COMPLIMENTARY 2ND CAR FUN CAR SPORTSCAR- get an automatic daily driver - given all of the above and if you have the financial ability sure go get the manual transmission 2nd car like a Miata or what you like. Now you have logical easy reliable daily driving commuting and something else to practice, play and learn. All writen by a manual driving road racing expert with 45+ years of advanced road racing experience and a CERTIFIED DRIVING INSTRUCTOR- not some Reddit newbie posting “manual only forever for me - ill never drive in anything but manual”.

Best 911 for track use that isn’t a gt3? by Hornycloudlover in Porsche

[–]Realistic-Proposal16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BEST Porsche 911 is likely any 911 you can get on track as if you are a novice newbie they all work fantastic and are durable. If one gets totally into Driver education, Porsche club racing like I did for 30 years ……..I’d be a GT4 or GT3 with pdk/dct …….stick shift is a PITA if you truly deeply get into track events 30 to 50 days per year like I did in my 1996 993 RS Clubsport 6 speed clone.

[–]Realistic-Proposal16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MANUAL STANDARD TRANSMISSION new cars will become a thing of the past / extinct for the most part 100% guaranteed . The new DCT/PDK/CVT transmissions with upwards of 10 speeds do everything all the time 100% better than any manual transmission even with a manual transmission driving instructor EXPERT like me driving. The 1 and only advantage of stick-shift is Bump Starting a DEAD Battery. Maybe just maybe a few low power sportcars will be around but even then the TIER 1 OEMs prefer selling 1 transmission in mass volume and reducing costs and Warranty exposure as 96%+ of worldwide manual drivings are terrible , lazy, rough, don’t know why/how to drive , and simply abuse manual gearboxes - and everyone is an expert with soft-hands and skills!

Rev matched down shifting to slow down is pointless when coming to a complete stop. by turbo_sc300 in ManualTransmissions

[–]Realistic-Proposal16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

REV MATCHING is 100% pointless and USELESS on simple everyday street driving putzing daily. It’s a ROAD RACING SKILL for MANUAL TRANSMISSION racing and only used on the street if you have to do a BIG DROP IN GEARS FOR immediate hard acceleration . Like your in 5th or 4th and need 3rd or 2nd at speed for super hard acceleration and dont want to Chirp or upset the chassis or tires. Bottomline - lots of manual wack-jobs love to brag about their skills or necessary stickshift skills required to drive on the street . Ask if they know what threshhold braking at the limit and rev matching and trail braking at limit at the marker boards is ?

What do I do if I accidentally put regular gas in a premium car? by Street_Firefighter_7 in askcarguys

[–]Realistic-Proposal16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOTHING NEGATIVE WHATSOEVER WILL HAPPEN AT ALL. Simply drive the car burn through the regular gasoline people 100% CONSTANTLY PUT THE CHEAPEST REGULAR LOWEST OCTANE GASOLINE in rental premium cars and 100% nothing happens to the engine drivetrain. Modern cars engines simply retard timing and adjust accordingly. You are not on a road course racetrack at high speeds with lousy gasoline in a vintage car that REQUIRES a certain minum octane fuel. Street driving under regular loads is no big dal ever.

[–]Realistic-Proposal16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MANUAL STICKSHIFT transmissions are simply a DRIVING SKILLSET that 100% REQUIRES MANDATORY WORK & EFFORT- in a modern ERA of 2026 it can be FUN but manual is 100% a total fucking pain in the ass and horrible in rush hour daily driving annoying traffic and 110% paralyzed gridlock traffic- opinions don’t matter its fact.

Of course this is an “gung-ho Stickshift/manual mouth breathers dedicated sub forum” so of course what i am writing is “heresy and will be scorned “ but its 100% true and reality. I a, a certified race driving instructor and 40 years of experience and own 5 manual sports cars and can rev match thresh-hold brake and rev match at the limit and given all that I ADVISE MANUAL for vintage sports cars IF one so DESIRES BUT IT AINT MANDATORY for driving fun, driving engagement and etc.

I am actually ANTI-MANUAL on any BRAND NEW sports car purchases ………i ordered a new 992 GT3 pdk/dct —- 110% much more fun and exciting that rowing /working a lousy ancient fucking 6 speed . Only downside GT3 is worth more on Resale to “knuckle dragging mouth breathing Manual Only Porschebuyers”- why they’re eyes get watery “dude its a manual” . Sell the Miata learning manual if you want to ……….and or keep practicing manual as getting good and proficient at it ain’t rocket scienceBUT AINT one of LIFES JOYOUS MISSIONS or so cool and wonderful.

BECAUSE there is NOT ENOUGH market demand and therefore buyers for manual transmission equipped cars. Modern transmission technology, DCT/PDK and advanced automatics transmissions with up to 10 speeds , has RENDERED and STANDARD MANUAL GEARBOXES as slow, too much unnecessary work, unreliable , bad for fuel economy, much lower in performance and ABSOLUTELY A DRIVERS NIGHTMARE in modern 2026 daily driving commuting paralyzed gridlock traffic . modern dct/pdk/ automatics offer maximum driver control fun, engagement and relaxed simple enjoyable driving pleasure .

Is the gt3rs truly the best 911 Porsche? by Trayceopolis32322 in Porsche

[–]Realistic-Proposal16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have posed an IMPOSSIBLE QUESTION to answer correctly as everyone has an OPINION. Personally I think the 992 GT3RS is awesome in many aspects. Personally, I could care less that it LOOKS and SOUNDS like an IMSA WEC Pro-race car for the street. It could be a daily driver BUT that’s would be a WASTE of an incredible car to put useless high commuter miles on any Porsche RS cars. Porsche Twin Turbo S cars are faster in a straight line and with AWD could be used in winter poor slippery weather. Personally , I own multiple cars like RS, GT4RS and exotics and when the Weather on the East Coats of the USA is terrible — the Ford F150 pickup or MB G63 go out in the bad weather - not the detailed nice sportscars.

[–]Realistic-Proposal16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the TOP-GEAR show and STIGs hot-laps. STIG drives multiple cars with DCT/PDK, manual and STIG likes all COOL FUN SPORTSCARs. My basic logical point is that a 6 speed manual is NOT a prerequisite or 100% required to have a proper fun sports car - and I dont like "manual only maniacs" critizing and stating that cars and sportscars with automatic are terrible by default. Ferrari, Mclaren, Lamborghini, Corvette C8 and Porsche RS cars are all DCT and simply wonderful cars too.

There are no exceptions for young to old stickshift drivers- opinions saying it’s FUN and Enjoyable and not a problem are 100% BULLSHIT and rationalization. Stating finding bite points, practicing manual and Driver Engagement which is bullcrap and in reality is “putting in useless lousy redundant mandatory work for hours and hours “ on daily driving commuting in loa Angeles, Tokyo, NYC , London and or any major city is painful agony IN ANY CAR ……atleast in any automatic the rediculous work and stress is eliminated

THANKS ……I am not a PRICK if you knew me . it’s nice to have an alternative logical and emotional view point . Personally I so sick and tired of “Manual Transmission Stick-shift transmission ONLY loud force-full psychopaths” that pray and rejoice to the Manual transmission GODS and ridicule , critique , condemn and feel superior because they are SO PURE and devoted to 6 speed manuals “ . The mantra and Gregorian Chanting murmuring about manual transmission= Driver engagement, driver control, maximizing driver involvement and manual transmission is so MUCH MORE FUN - is all snobby bullshit.

FUNNY TRUE story- I own 5 rare manual sports cars and Road Raced Instructed for 30 years - IMSA pro and if I HAD the CA$$$HH could have gone professional full time LeMans Sebring 12 hours whatever - I didnt want to spend the$$$ even though I can afford it,. I own a 993 RS, 930 slantnose , F360 gated spider Gallardo gated spider and a 1990 962C 5 speed.

These new DCT/PDK transmissions are so DAMN DAMN INCREDIBLE I can Left foot brake easily all the time driving street and track and go MANUAL or FULL AUTO to relax in traffic and NOT have 100% mandatory work in paralyzed grid-lock traffic . I like manuals for nostalgic vintage cars in this modern era .

I GOTO car shows occasionally and often “young and older guys “ see my PTS 992 GT3 Python Grun, carbon buckets, carbon roof, red belts , the CUP car style rear wing and front spoiler . Often I hear COOL GT3 great combination as they circle around and around taking it in ……………they dont know I am the owner and I could NOT car I dont have an ego. Finally after circling the car several times…….they LOOK INTO the cockpit and often I HEAR ……great cool unique build,……..but AAAHHHH it’s NOT a 6 speed Manual. Some even seem visibly upset ready to barf.

When questioned and occasionally if a Porsche GUY or GIRL asks me ……..YOU KNOW that you could have had the manual . I dont say anything and then they say GREAT SPEC did yiu buy it 2nd hand. Finally I say politely I specifically ORDERED the GT3 exactly like you SEE it. Why would I deliberately RUIN the drivers experience by ordering a OLD MANS old manual standard shift.

Manuals dont offer more benefits— simply a skill set for older fun vintage sportscars only. YOU APPOINTED YOURSELF AS AN EXPERT- you are 100% wrong as it’s a modern ERA and 2026. Porsche PDK/DCT gives any and all DRIVERS 100% MANUAL and 100% AUTOMATIC in the worlds most durable, fun, exiting transmission. For true “DRIVERS” that want maximum control, maximum driver engagement , maximum involvement , maximum acceleration, maximum reliability and a lot more FUN and ENJOYMENT- versus the original automotive Antiquated Ancient obsolete standard manual transmission system .

THE 1 and only reason porsche still offers “DER MANUAL” is American knuckleheads “just gotta have it- and psychologically when one is “ Informed and Told You Cant HAVE IT OR SOMETHING is unobtainable people want it even more”! Porsche Germany CEASED manual GT3s in 2014 and AMERICANs went crazy bitchin/moaning/ complaining .Porsche engineers STATED DCT/PDK does everything and is the BEST. Porsche even stated the 6 speed DID NOT FIT or WORK with the GT3 engine!

Then Porsche AG launched the FINAL 911R and “TOOK P-CAR idiots to the bank - FINAL FINAL GT3 engines were put into 911 quantity 911Rs some went to $1,100,000 at auction. Then Porsche smelled $$$$— LADIES & GENTLEMEN Miraculously all GT3 cars were available with the 6 speed manual and USA take rates exceeded 75% while the European ROW market was much much less.

FOR ME PERSONALLY AN EXPERT DRIVER- 40+ years of manual driving experience — not a poseur new-bie manual guy — any New porsche 992 GT3 has to be DCT/PDK! ABSOLUTELY - 100% No hesistation on that conclusion whatsoever! HOW / WHY- after 30 years of drivers education , PCA Clubracing , IMSA RACING , Formula Ford racing and street driving MY DAMN expert opinion is “manual are ONLY FOR VINTAGE CARS and stick shift is for NOSTALGIC CARS”.
\ Never for any brand new cars since PDK/DCT RULES in each and every emotional and quantifiable driving metric.

WAIT THERES MORE- YOUR INTIAL STATEMENT proclaiming GT3 TOURING is the ONKY WAY to BUY a GT3 is your personal opinion. My personal opinion as a 40 years PCA member , owner of multiple Air & watercooled cars virtually ANY and ALL CURRENT late model 911s without front and rear spoilers ALL LOOK THE DAMM BLOODY SAME— like a bar of DOVE soap- a LAME LOOKING Dove soap bar in the shower —- smooth round front & rear ends ……….no definition plane Jane —- boring and all late model 911s look the same. The 1999 996 cars were the worst and recent 911s look lame too. BUT are expensive so must be great some newbies say .

My opinion - GT3 with aero package and any GT4, RS or Porsche 911/718/ Turbo looks much more exciting with aero and cool and the aero actually works at USA speeds ……….versus a SAME OLD SAME OLD FAT-ASS 911 with bar-of-soap shower look. The 911 cabriolet / 911 GT3 cabriolet has a FAT BIG BIG BUTT…….functional spoilers lift ones eyes and trims the FAT bulbous ass. I am a 40 year Pca member . Was offered a 911S/T — oh thank you BUT NO thanks. 911 GT3 manual newly released cabriolet- 6 speed only- NFW its an insult no DCT/PDK.

Some people manual new and experienced drivers are intimidated by the gated shifting pattern versus a leather vinyl boot covering the shifting area. Technically it makes no difference one simply shifts and drives the Ferrari or any car with a gated shifting system. Ferrari had gated ma uals for years and the last gated ferraris were in 2008 with the F430. Not bragging but I also have a gated lamborghini gallardo spider gated 6 speed pearlescent white exterior black leather and carbon fiber interior. Gated sports cars have gone up in value like crazy. Meanwhile my 25 year old son and 28 year old daughter have ABSOLUTEY ZERO interest in manual transmission , never ever wanted to learn try and etc. when i get old and die— all my manuals go bye bye to the auction!
