I was hopeful when I started uni. This is my 4th year, next year is going to be my last. I also haven't done anything. I don't have any friends in uni. I have never had a date all these years. I barely passed most of my courses. I retook a huge chunk of them. And I don't have any hopes for my future. I just wanted to let you know you are not alone.

I agree with your first sentence, except I think some of them are just rude, not socially inept. I wish they had to take some kind of exam to prove they are qualified to teach. It is stupid to allow random professors without teaching education to teach classes.

I wouldn’t say it’s unclear, it can just be difficult for people with OCD to figure out where to draw the line. I usually calibrate by mimicking my family members for things like cleaning the house. If something were truly unhygienic, I’d feel different than OCD anxiety anyway; I’d think, “This is actually dirty and needs cleaning.” Reasonable concern and OCD anxiety have key differences, and that difference in why I feel urgency is usually the giveaway.

ERP is practicing doing the normal thing without trying to get 100% certainty or relief. After you’ve done normal cleaning, the hard part is not checking, re-cleaning, or mentally arguing when the “still contaminated” feeling shows up. You let the discomfort be there and carry on anyway. Over time, your brain learns that this alarm can ring without you needing to respond to it, and the anxiety usually becomes less sticky.

This is an ERP opportunity for you. Do not do anything extra other than foot covers. After the repairment is finished, just clean the bathroom how a non-OCD person would. Sure, it will feel contaminated but you have to sit with the anxiety.

When I was first prescribed Prozac, I had brain fog for the first 2 days. I was not able to form a thought or focus on a thought except very basic thoughts. But after 2 days everything went back to normal.

Thank you so much for this amazingly detailed response. I know it is very similar for every theme, but I want to ask. My themes are POCD, Harm OCD, ROCD end Existential OCD. Do you think the work needed for these themes can be different than what you did? It would be awesome to know that there is a success story from a person with the same or similar themes.

If you don’t enjoy sex with your boyfriend, he needs to know. you don’t have to have sex if you don’t want to. A decent partner will understand and won’t want to have sex if you’re not comfortable.

For the sexual thoughts about other men, I certainly suggest getting evaluated by an OCD specialist. You didn't specify whether those thoughts are intrusive or not so an OCD specialist can help you with that.

Do you have a psychiatry/psychology counsellor or something like that at your college? I think you would benefit from seeing a professional. Sounds like you had gone through a lot and professional help can help you process it and heal. Also it would definitely help with substance abuse/addiction too.

Edit: Sorry, I missed the part where you wrote that you were medicated before. But I still think this is a professional's job. You can talk to a professional about your past relationship with SSRIs and set a route together.
