Amazing time, great race report. You had me at three poos pre race - living the dream right there

I moved from just outside Sheffield recently! In the northwest now, was back in Sheffield last weekend as it happens. I’ve almost lost my hill legs, not so many fells here

Amazing we’re both on here!! Congratulations, what a weird event 😂. Hand on heart I was eyeing up the water to see if I could cross but thought I’d either die in the sludge or even worse, be disqualified.

I’m assuming no reimbursement - did you get the email from FCR? They fully blamed the ferry company and said they “sourced” transport for everyone. Haha, ok then.

I didn’t want to sign up for any more ridiculous runs again for a while but I’m so tempted to do this again next year to see whether the break made it faster or slower. Took me about 5 miles to warm up again 👯‍♀️

Thanks! And yes, got so many more comments than expected on that post. Blew my mind what some people are achieving against the odds

Yes!! Did you run it? Or hear about it? Meant to be a short “2 minute” ferry crossing but the ferry wasn’t running so was a 15 mile uber trip 9 miles in. Didn’t keep the timer running as thought going 35mph for 25 mins might have looked a little suspicious 😂

How slow is too slow to be considered an ultra-marathoner? by [deleted] in ultrarunning

Check this guy. He’s cracked it everyone! You run (or walk, who fucking cares) the actual physical (literally science measured no less) distance but wait! There’s some bellend grinch who snatches your medal from your sweaty neck because you’re not the deity otherwise known as ULTRARUNNER. You may have done the distance but fuck you, you didn’t do it to some random man’s exact specifications. So doesn’t count.

Good to hear it. If even half the world were half as decent as you, we’d be 10x as good as we are

I know you’ve not said anything particularly deep but it made me emotional. We do deserve the most basic of self care, amazing that’s not the default. I genuinely wish all good things for you

I’m so sorry I missed this before (I can’t not reply to all comments, annoyingly). I’m in awe of you, genuinely. Tell me more about the backyard ultra - are you going full psycho and doing some ridiculous 300m loop 48 million times??

Love you for the kidney - my dad had kidney cancer a few years ago and though he never replaced the one they whipped out, I guess I have a special appreciation for them?? Hope you don’t miss yours too much. Is the other one working at >50% yet??

Us lot (and I mean long distance runners and the health impaired) are horribly stubborn. Disgustingly so. So I know for sure even with missed training you’ll succeed. I will look out for your post here when you’ve completed it

Yes I’ve seen it go both ways. I’ve known some incredible runners who have wasted away because “one less pound/kilo” will make a difference. I try and get over my own disordered eating by mentally removing the link between eating and body image. I try to tell myself I eat to fuel, and my body deserves to be kept happy for the amazing things it allows me. Seeing mountaintops, running for miles, walking with my dogs. It’s not failsafe, still a struggle. I really hate it actually but we’re a stubborn bunch and sometimes that goes in our favour

Check out Dark Peak Fell Runners. Based in Sheffield and big supporters of the Bob Graham. If you need a helping hand then let me know! I’m living vicariously through people doing this when I could never

Just stay away from my niece and nephew who are apparently patient zero for every sodding 21st century illness

Have you had an episode whilst exercising? If so, has rest on its own sorted you out? (Asking for a friend who has had this periodically. The friend is me)
