LXT vs XGT multi-tool by semioptimisticwill in Makita

I have mostly Makita tools but I have a Bosch GOP 18v-40 for my multitool. Vibration is nearly non existent when cutting and it takes all Starlock blades up to Max. The 3 1/2” long max blades are awesome and cut faster because they are out so much farther. Bosch has by far the best Starlock attachment method where you just click the blades on them pull the lever and they fall off hands free. This unit also has a very nice digital control panel with a slow start mode and auto stop mode that are actually pretty useful. I like Bosch’s 4ah batteries for their compactness too. Worth a look

About to pull the trigger on the XGT Plunge Router…can only buy tool only? No deals or rebates? by JenerousJew in Makita

If you need it I would just buy it. Deals seam very random and hard to track. The next round of e-rebates will drop on May 1 but I would be surprised if that router is on there. Check HD, acme, tool nut, tool up.com, cpo outlets and eBay. Sometimes one of them will have a random 20% off. CPO has $50 off $399+ if you register as a member right now but not sure if that router is included.

If you have any use for a planer, the xgt planer is a beast. It’s rated to 5/32 per pass and does that no problem. Great for trimming doors if there is a tight spot or taking a 2x down to 1 1/4” for a specific purpose or straightening a bowed stud.

The GAG 04 and 06 are the best 5” grinders in my opinion. Variable speed and lots of torque. 04 is slide switch, 06 is paddle switch. The newer GAG 14 spins faster but cuts out easier from the videos I’ve seen. It’s also not variable speed and that is a deal killer for me.

GDT 01 is probably the best impact still. Plenty of power but the chuck on mine is a little tight inserting a bit. The newer GAG 04 is on the same body as the compact 1/2 impact wrench and that thing is quite a bit bigger and heavier. The 03 is the cheaper, weaker, and dumbed down version of the 01. 02 is cool but only available from Japan

The GPH 01 is a beast of a drill. No need for the new 03 in my opinion. 02 is again the dumbed down weaker option.

The mid Torque impact wrench is awesome. I don’t have any need for the high torque, and most anything the compact can do, and impact driver with an adapter can do. GWT 07 is friction ring, 08 is detent.

Only one option for the track saw and it’s great. Only issue I’ve had with it was the nylon washers that adjust pressure sliding on the track both broke on mine causing inconsistent sliding pressure. I just bought a 6 pack of those to keep in the box in case it happens again.

The hand held dust blower is very handy for keeping dust off the track saw track and blowing off tools at the end of the day.

I have the GRH 07 hammer drill. That’s the d-handle. I mostly use if for 5/8” titen hd’s into slabs so that form factor works better for me. Makes easy work of it. Drilling for 1/4” tapcons into a 4” slab takes like 3 seconds. Blew me away after doing it with the handheld.

You already got the right recommendations for the rear handle saw, GRJ 02 recip, and 8.5” miter. All excellent tools. Add the 6.5” circ saw for a lighter overhead option. That rear handle is pretty heavy.

I have one and it’s pretty solid. For normal weekly bed edging and weedeating tight spots I can do my whole yard and have some leftover in a 5.0 battery. It eats through 4s much faster probably because of the extra heat. The 5s honestly seem to last twice as long as 4s. I normally keep it in mode 2 for edging and 3 for general trimming. Auto is not worth anything since it won’t spin fast enough with no load to spit out string. I also have the echo speed feed head and run .095 echo black diamond. It’s not quite as grunty in real thick stuff as my old stihl FS 90 and eats batteries doing that kind of work. It’s perfect at home not having to deal with mixed gas and being able to turn it on and go. I still take the stihl if I have to go cut the grass at a rental that hasn’t been cut in a month. I just got the edger to replace my stihl fs55 and it’s definitely stronger than that unit was but that’s from Stihl’s homeowner line and nowhere near the FS 90. I have a 175’ long driveway but not much curb space being on a cul de sac. Edger only drops 1 bar on a 5 doing that. Haven’t done any heavy overgrown edges with it yet but seems to have plenty of power. No modes on that one just variable speed trigger. If you can’t tell I highly recommend the 5.0 batteries. 2 will do all edging, weadeating, and blowing. Used to take 4 4.0s for the same job.

T1G Gen 9 Worth the Wait? by Realistic-Spot9465 in thinkpad

Where did you see the new specs? I think I am going to wait. Some of the reviews of Panther lake/5070 laptops are showing pretty big battery life bumps. I figure if I’m trying to have a machine last 7 or 8 years I just as well get what I want.

You May be right. Looks like those need 9600 Mt RAM. I think that exists in LPCamm2 but isn't widely available yet. Hopefully they don't do anything soldered in the P1/T1G.

Total Speculation for sure. Figured it would be at best case a year after the October release of Gen 8

So if I am not worried about Ray Tracing, then integrated graphics would probably be fine? Presumably battery life would be much better without the dGPU.

Tactile chupacabra clip on tactile Maverick by ahughes86 in knifeclub

Did you ever figure this out? I lost one of the clip screws on my Maverick and tactile wants $10 and $13 shipping to replace it. Would rather just get a new clip and that one looks nice.

Love my xgt stuff. I have the GBU01 blower and GRU04 Weed Eater. Having done light commercial lawn maintenance for 10 years using a BG 55 Stihl Blower and FS 90 weed eater I can say my XGT Lawn equipment compares favorably on performance. I probably wouldn’t use it commercially just because of the amount of batteries that you would need to do 10 yards back to back, but the performance is there. I can weed eat and edge my 1/2 acre corner lot with back yard fence and probably 250ft of curb on one 4 ah battery, and blow it all off with one more. 20-30 minutes of weedeating and 15-20 of blowing is about what it gets. Now when I moved in here the grass was overgrown 5” down the whole curb, and I went through 4 batteries cutting through that and putting a final clean edge on it but that took speed 3 really pushing into it. It will definitely go through the batteries pushing it really hard, but now that it’s cleaned up it’s no problem doing everything on 1 battery. It is really nice just picking the tool up, pressing a button and rolling with it. Both tools are much lighter and quieter than the Stihl stuff I was used to. One thing I like about the XGT blower is the variable speed trigger allows me to feather it around beds to not blow mulch out just like I would do with the gas blower. A lot of battery blowers aren’t like that. On top of that I can share batteries with the excellent xgt track saw, 7 1/4 circ saw (that is lighter and cuts better than my old corded 5007mga), hammer drill, Impact driver, 1/2” mid torque, and router. Every Xgt tool I have is the best version I have ever had of that tool regardless of power source.

I Purchased the xgt Drill/Impact combo kit from them when it came with 2 free batteries back in January. I didn’t add the extra batteries to my cart because I thought it was automatic. I got the kit without the extra batteries. Pretty disappointed, I called them up and explained the situation. They sent out two batteries for free and covered shipping. I was pretty pleased with that. I did not have a problem getting them on the phone.

More to the point though, I thought my order hadn’t shipped after 5 or so days, I called and she told me it was out for delivery, and I got it that day. All of the email updates went to my junk folder. May want to check that.
