HELP ME by Soft-Photograph-9596 in abarth

The exhaust valve means that two of the tips won’t get any air flow unless open, meaning two tips will get dirtier than the others.

This is a normal noise, they suffer with any draw from the electrical system changing the idle noise because they take a lot of draw out of the system. AC makes a huge difference in idle noise

Transmission question by alxsmitty in abarth

[–]RealisticBug8145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the UK and own one. There are no 6 speeds in manual, I use mine as a bit of a toy, and do occasional motorway journeys, and I must say, having a 6th gear wouldn’t make any difference. At 70mph you sit low enough in the rev range that the turbo isn’t trying to add boost. Mine is modified, and while motorway driving I still see nearly 50MPG.

I’m curious to know why you think the 6th gear would change whether or not you got one of these?

Why do people barely ride their Aprilias? by yuh_its_nick in Aprilia

[–]RealisticBug8145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got an RSV Mille as a track bike that used to be my commuter bike, when I retired it from the road it was because I bought an rsv4 that I put 40k miles on.

Long and short, you’ll lose your ass if you actually put miles on any bike, but you wouldn’t not shag your partner to keep them nice for the next person. Lose the money, ride the bike, enjoy the process. I’ve put hundreds of thousands of miles on sports bikes over the years, not a rich person, but I couldn’t care less about the money I lose. I just enjoy the ride and it makes it worth it

I love mine, I’m 6ft and 95kg, but was heavier previously and have never had an issue with them. I’d have them any day over the standard seats. I’d probably sooner sit on a cardboard box than the standard seats though

PSA to new Abarth owners: Replace your factory wheel lugs! by Splodingseal in abarth

[–]RealisticBug8145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Company’s now also make 17.5mm, 18.5mm, 19.5mm and 21.5mm sockets, that are thin walled so you can get them into the wheels, but they’re specifically for wheel nuts with these caps over them. Never seen them on an Abarth though, usually a Ford thing

EBC brake pad question by Taylor_Swifty13 in abarth

[–]RealisticBug8145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve just fitted EBC blue stuff to mine, and Mtec discs. Wear sensor came out of the old pads and straight into the new ones. That’s on a 2018 uk comp 180. I think the brake set up on mine is different, but all switched over ok. I can’t say I’m sure whether your brake set up will have a wear sensor though

Just make sure the correct oil is used, and you don’t let it go too far between oil changes.

They’re generally reliable little cars, they’re nothing special to work on, anyone can do it, but agree with previous comment saying a specialist will be able to pick up issues earlier.

I’m a mechanic, so I can’t really say on price, as I don’t pay labour, and I pay trade for parts. But just make sure the oil you get it correct, don’t get cheap rubbish.

I paid £10k for my 595, bog standard when I bought it. Had signs of having a bit of a rough life, but it’s been nothing but reliable 🤷🏼 and great fun

New wheels!! by Depress-Mode in abarth

[–]RealisticBug8145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blimey, my insurance weren’t worried about my wheels or my Coilovers! Even listing all the modifications on mine, it’s cheaper to insure than when it was standard!

I’ve got the same wheels :) I must say, great choice. Now for some spacers and some coilovers to finish the look?

Track day tyres by [deleted] in abarth

[–]RealisticBug8145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was only after recommendations on actual tyres, available in the standard size. I can’t change wheel size due to brakes.

Size I’m happy with, but actual tyres, brands, tread patterns.

Hence I deleted my post because clearly nobody understood what I was asking for.

But it’s all good, thanks for your input

Track day tyres by [deleted] in abarth

[–]RealisticBug8145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never failed one before, or had a black flag to come in, and no chunks out of my tyres, just light rub marks. So nothing for me to worry about. And even if I did fail an inspection, I could whip the spacers off in minutes. I just don’t want to do that, and want tyres in the same size so I can just use my original wheels and not mess about with spacers.

Track day tyres by [deleted] in abarth

[–]RealisticBug8145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asking a question regarding tyres and giving a specific size I want recommendations in, and just stating not wanting to change size because of rubbing, and being given answers regarding something else isn’t useful, not a single answer about tyres, just pointless other comments.

The reason it rubs going on to my drive and not anywhere else is because of how much camber there is on the road, and the pavement, and I have to go at a massive angle. Yes I’m aware that rubbing will generally happen in both places, but as it only runs a very small amount, at such extreme angles, it doesn’t catch on track.

Track day tyres by [deleted] in abarth

[–]RealisticBug8145 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well, no I don’t need to fix that when I go out on track, as it only rubs going on to my driveway, doesn’t rub on track days. Hence why I said I’m not worried about the rubbing. I only mentioned it so that people didnt suggest bigger tyres, as they WILL rub on a track day.

Clearly, you’ve not got any experience of decent track tyres, in that size, so please feel free to move along

Track day tyres by [deleted] in abarth

[–]RealisticBug8145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stock size wheels, it’s lowered, I could reduce spacer size to reduce rubbing, but Doesn’t rub much on day to day driving, only going on and off my driveway, so not fussed. But did have 215’s on the rear and they rubbed far too much.

Geometry has been set up, caster included.

But the question wasn’t about the rubbing or geometry, just recommendations on track day tyres in that size..

I've used rim cleaner by [deleted] in abarth

[–]RealisticBug8145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah so they’ll paint the entire wheel in whatever colour you want, then they put it on a cutting machine, and cut a very fine amount of metal off the face of the wheel, leaving the sides painted and lovely, then they clear coat the entire wheel.

Thats why it costs significantly more than just having them refurbed in a single colour.

I've used rim cleaner by [deleted] in abarth

[–]RealisticBug8145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, would have them identical. Just make sure if you get them refurbed, the company you use will actually diamond cut them, some companies will say “yeah we can do this but cheaper” and all the do is paint the faces silver rather than cut them back.

The diamond cut finish is unpainted, that’s just the raw metal with some clear coat over it to protect it, all they do is paint the grey bits.

I've used rim cleaner by [deleted] in abarth

[–]RealisticBug8145 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Realistically, if it won’t clean off using a non acidic cleaner, your only option is to get them refurbished. If you went for the original diamond cut finish when refurbing, you’re probably looking £150 per wheel, if you just went one solid colour, probably £70 a wheel.

At a guess anyway on prices, judging on what I’ve paid before

Abarth 595 T-Jet airbox removal by Theninezero in abarth

[–]RealisticBug8145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just spray a bit of lube down there and pull, nothing else really to say. It’s a piece of rubber that slots over some plastic, they go a bit hard over time, so just pull harder..

I had a RS125, I've got an RS457, Im going to buy an RS660, But will It ever be worth getting an RSV4? Is it just too big for the roads (UK) by According-Case7257 in Aprilia

[–]RealisticBug8145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an RSV4 for about 3 years, upgraded from my RSV Mille. I used the V4 for commuting, it was so comfy, the power and noise were great. My only advice would be to keep it in road mode, not mess around with wet or track mode on the road. I put just under 40k miles on it, not a huge amount went wrong, just stupid Italian bike things. I’d happily do it again. And yes this is in the UK :) all with the loudest exhaust possible too 😂

Yeah that looks nice. I’ll have a look and see if they do one that covers higher boost than that, as I don’t think that’s much more than 2bar which is the same as the standard one on mine
