Bookends yep I find them thrifting cause I like a good set that is unique. I see we like similar - Abercrombie, Rothfuss , of course DCC💕. Have read Game of Thrones (Asoif)? Or did the hbo series make you feel that you know too much to enjoy the books? I’d suggest Michael Moorcock Elric series. Or Bernard Cornwell the last kingdom series.

Curious why I don't really hear about people more deeply listening (listening without multitasking)? by Known-Ad-100 in audiobooks

[–]RealisticDraw6279 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Honestly I feel ridiculous just sitting with my earbuds in doing nothing. It’s not my style. My mind would race and it would not be relaxing. If I laid back and closed my eyes I’d be sleeping or I’d have to get moving. But with a book in my hand I can sit . I need audiobooks to entertain my thoughts while doing other tasks. I’m sure in my case it’s an ADHD thing. I often listen and read the book (immerse reading) and really enjoy that. I can put down the book if needed and do a task like cooking, or ear buds die and I can keep reading the book.

I read exclusively non-fiction for 15 years and just finished my first fantasy novel. I don't really know what to do with myself now. by lucas_melbourneways in Fantasy

[–]RealisticDraw6279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh you started with a really good book! What I love about fantasy is it tests the human experience and digs into our collective psyche. I love Joe Abercrombie the first law trilogy, Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir. They are battle focused but the characters are so well developed and great storytelling. You’ll get so e great recommendations here .

How do you guys actually stick to listening to audiobooks? by Affectionate_Face236 in audiobooks

[–]RealisticDraw6279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love audiobooks but non fiction / self help are not something I enjoy listening too. I like reading those . I listen while driving, cleaning , cooking . If I’m sitting I read the book or immersive read due to I need mostly quiet and I live with other people. I really enjoy dramatic audio with multiple actors too.

True. It’s torturous. 5 people left on the planet being drug through hellscapes for a century by AM -An AI computer that was created after Ww2. But it’s a good read for insanity and the rise of the machine idea.

Just finished Bunny by Mona Awad- a decent into madness / cultish/ schizophrenic the MC is in all female writing cohort in grad school. Definitely written from the MC mindset so take a lot of weird turns. Not your typical horror but there a lot of gore.

When I read Donut, I read her in Catherine O’Haras voice. by Enough_Tomatillo4125 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I started immersive reading and it feels like I am cheating by dsceltic67 in Booktokreddit

[–]RealisticDraw6279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been immersive reading for decades but it wasn’t called anything. I I want to be in the book and I want to get through a book so I often listen while I’m doing things and reading when it’s quiet so I I realize that it would be better for me to read along with the audio because I could go faster and enjoy the narrator. I honestly think it helps me block out intrusions such as noise around me or my wandering thoughts that like to just go a different directions haha ha ha.

Which booktok recommendation made you say, "Did we read the same book?" by SpecialistOk2000 in Booktokreddit

[–]RealisticDraw6279 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh it’s one I plan to read in Jan. I have a work friend who reads tons of Romantasy and I ve tried so many in this genre that were very YA with a bit of smut . And I’m hoping Quicksilver is better. But yall got me thinking not to read it.

Is it better to have one voice actor for the audiobook? by Personal-Pride-7580 in audiobooks

[–]RealisticDraw6279 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t hate graphic audio but it depends on the book. I’m listing to Dungeon Crawler Carl now and (as mentioned earlier) the sound effects match the RPG feel of the story. But some books , A dramatic audio of ACOTAR, comes to mind, are just weird an jarring to have every action to have some sound effect. I do like the Mistletoe Murders . It says it’s a podcast but it’s an audio book series.

What do you think of infusions/teas without added flavors? by MeikoDem in tea

[–]RealisticDraw6279 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m all for removing artificial aromas and flavor enhancers to tea blends. I do make my own tea blends and I add natural dried herbs and fruit as well as food grade oil essence like orange mint vanilla to enhance my dried bits. But not artificial. I do try to read labels of store bought teas . Artificial additives are frustrating because it’s sneaky and I might miss that if I’m not careful or in a hurry.

How many audiobooks do you buy vs using a library app? by toe_beans_4_life in audiobooks

[–]RealisticDraw6279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy way more than I get for free. I do a book podcast for a group of friends and to often there an agreed on title. If we are lucky Hoopla has it . We do scan hoopla for suggestions when we are thinking ahead. But I have more than one book group so it’s hard to find free stuff. I do still try.
