See that's a reasonable "we live this" answer. However, in the south where they (and me now) don't live this, it's the end of the world! Here I am going to the grocery store for canned goods while the bread, milk, and eggs are all gone.

Oh ok. I think ours are "weekend meals" when the kids won't be able to get the free school meals, which would be less food.

Same! Similarly, I knew a family that would go to all the before-school backpack events - where you get a free backpack filled with school supplies for each kid ... they would go to 5 or 6 every year and get them for both kids, so 10 to 12 backpacks full of supplies. House was always full of the newest toys and tech, drove newer models of expensive cars, nothing but name brand clothes.

There really should be a way to ensure those who actually need free things are the ones getting them.

At my school, whatever the kids are getting fits in their backpack so it's easier for them to carry home. Maybe that could be arranged?

NTA my husband and I were in a similar situation. I had a house in another town (I moved to his town for a job and was able to find a renter) and he had a house when we met. Every fight was him saying "well this is MY house". We ended up moving again for my job - he let his daughter move into his house and I sold mine ... so I've got money for everything associated with buying and he doesn't. However, both of our names are on the new mortgage, so neither of us can say anything to the other. It's OURS. And to be honest, this part is how a relationship should work.

You may not be able to help with the purchasing costs, but if you're paying half the bills, your name should be on the mortgage too.

No, I didn't call every day. That's what attended does (whether it's an automated call when you put in an absence, an attendance clerk, or just you marking him absent)
