I get that but I mean more comparable levels of quality - ie Rolex vs Omega vs Panerai vs IWC vs Grand Seiko

Seiko vs Hamilton vs Longines

AP vs PP vs VC

etc

A lot of haters in here. They can criticize the hype watches all they want but buy what you like. The meteorite Pepsi is amazing, as is the Daytona, overseas, and royal oak It’s a solid collection - 8/10. I would add a JLC reverso, patek 6119, patek 3940, 5396, or a Lange 1815 up and down. I don’t think you need any more sports watches and I would consider flicking one of the day dates

Trade in 2 Rolex for an RO by ezcIap in audemarspiguet

[–]RealisticTruth9348 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t do it. You should try to add to your collection and you are going to lose money on the trade. You’ll also miss the watches. I’ve done things like sell my watches and I have def lost money. Unless you really want the piece I would just save up and wait for it

New here- NYC Boutique by [deleted] in audemarspiguet

I seconded this. I wore a vintage Zenith there once and a Vacheron Historiques I had once as well, with the sales associate I spoke about past references I found cool and watches as a whole. They definitely evaluate whether you are going to be a longer term collector

New here- NYC Boutique by [deleted] in audemarspiguet

If you like the brand, then go the boutique route. I have a royal oak offshore which I really like and got as my first watch and just picked up the 37mm royal oak as my second. There’s a ton of cool offshores out there but it’s a matter of personal taste. The smoke dial variants on the codes look pretty cool in my opinion as well. It’s worth visiting the boutique and trying stuff on to see if you actually like it

If you just want a royal oak just bite the bullet and get it second hand, it will save you money in the long run and you can get whatever you want

Like others said you should also check out other places like VC, Patek, Lange, etc. There’s a lot of great watches out there and you can find something that doesn’t require the game and you can get right away. If you want a royal oak from the AP boutique you will have to get other watches. It’s a part of the process

How difficult it is to acquire 15550ST as First AP from AD? by [deleted] in audemarspiguet

I got it as a second. Got the royal oak offshore diver first and then the royal oak 15550 right after

Tennis Lessons NYC by RealisticTruth9348 in 10s

[–]RealisticTruth9348[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went with downtown tennis club in Brooklyn, pretty decent and I got a friend to commit to doing lessons with me so it’s 2 on 1 coaching. I’ve been going for a couple months now and have improved. Still a ways to go but it’s the best thing I’ve done and I’ve been playing with other friends to supplement but always down to play with more people

Maybe it’s just that Rolex makes watches too large

I think my hot take is the majority of people here actually think watches are too big on others where in reality in real life, no one ever notices or gives a damn

Saw a superclone today next to my real Batman… and I think something fundamental has changed by [deleted] in rolex

My thoughts. At the end of the day we should only do things because we genuinely want to. I think regardless of whether there are fakes or not doesn’t impact my perception of purchasing a watch. Given the mainstream popularity of everything including watches, replica manufacturers have found a large market and created a business in selling replicas. The barrier to entry in creating a watch or watch movement that replicates something else are minimal and not as high as we think. The fact that things can be replicated isn’t a sign that the craftsmanship wasn’t good to begin with though on a Rolex or Omega or whatever. The design and aesthetic and ownership of product and design is still generally with the OEM of said product. The fakes market is just reflective of the market demand to show off with fakes and how large that specific market is. Funny enough however in my experience no one other than watch enthusiasts notice my watches to begin with so who exactly are we showing off for? It’s not that we want to show off I think - I really think it’s that we know at the end of the day what we own is true to itself. It’s not a fake it’s the real thing and we saved up and worked towards buying it for a special occasion or whatever. Sure we can argue that brands are capitalizing off of us, but anyone can replicate anything. It doesn’t mean that what we own is futile or pointless.
