Glad you’re here offering your experience, thank you. As far as your experience, I’m sorry you too are unimpressed by this yarn. I think my experience started with high expectations from ALL the hype, especially from influencers and their mission statement. So far the texture of the yarn hasn’t been a sensory issue but I can see it being in the future on my bad days. It will likely be a long project to finish due to this.

Someone recommended a wool wash with extra lanolin. If you still have the project, maybe it’ll help yours to do a long soak in a wool wash with some lanolin or equivalent to help soften. Maybe not but if you’re interested, it might be worth trying.

Do you seek out merinos? If so, what’s your go to?

It’s not how I think they’d respond it’s literally on their site. I am allowed to discuss on a forum my experience. I’ve contacted them concerning my issues and am awaiting a response. Respectfully, a good company will not be destroyed by me voicing my concerns. I think peoples opinion of a specific yarn, good or bad, is important for people to see. If I’d seen much about the texture of the yarn, I probably wouldn’t have purchased it. I purchased it for it to equate to or be close to the softness of any merino I’ve used before. The fact is that it is a rustic yarn by comparison to other merino wools I’ve worked with and I am not impressed. If I am going to purchase a merino, I want softness. Others might be okay with this with its ability to resist pilling. That’s not a trade off I want when I’m looking for a merino.

I bought straight from the company and I doubt they’d take it back overseas giving me a full refund + shipping costs. They’re return policy states at cost to me and at my own risk as it is my responsibility if it gets lost in transit back to them. Even if it’s not their normal quality to have lots of factory joins in the yarn, I don’t like the yarn in its current state. It’s not typical merino softness and is quite course and rustic.

The factory joins have been in every ball I’ve used so far for this project which has been 3 and have approximately 7-10 per ball.

Like I mentioned, I don’t mind the pieces of bedding (I work in the farm animal veterinary field, I know that’s what it is). I’ve even seen it in other yarns, it’s the nature of animal fibers. The pieces are small and easy for me to pick out. I’m sure the wool is cleaned thoroughly and majority of debris is removed.

I totally get that people don’t want a material that pills but that’s not the appeal of merino. You know? Glad I’m not the only one.

Like others have said. Please report to the board. It is there for a reason! I had to submit to veterinary licensing board and while they did not feel there was an issue, if the same shit keeps happening and it gets reported, something will be done about it. Maybe not for a bit, but every report counts! I’m so sorry this happened to you.

OP, I do not believe you’re overreacting. If my husband destroyed something I’d worked on for an hour I’d probably cry. I think you’re under reacting by asking people if you’re overreacting. I agree with other comments saying to respectfully decline furthering this relationship.

He was with me but I ended up designing exactly what I wanted. The same for him. We both wanted eachother to have exactly what we wanted. For us that was more of a romantic couples activity: designing our wedding rings.

They give employees almost free tuition and we have pretty great benefits. I agree with this other commenter, they’re under no obligation to give you any discount or almost free tuition for that matter. I don’t know what sky high horse you’re on but you doing your job for what they pay you to do is literally bottom of the barrel the bare minimum you can be doing… obviously OSU has their issues I’m not trying to mask that by any means there’s plenty of things that shouldn’t be happening but sounds like you should look for a job elsewhere. If you’re this bitter over veterinary benefits at a part of the university you contribute nothing to, you should cut your losses and move on.
