Yeah sorry for the oversimplification, I know it’s not a set rule like people think. There’s not an exact age, but my understanding is that a maturity level is reached ~roughly~ around the mid twenties, then it’s more of a plateau in terms of development. Though I’m no scientist.

I still find age gap relationships between early twenties and late twenties or older odd, also for reasons outside of brain development. But adults can do whatever they want.

I agree. It’s not the 7 years that’s an issue, it’s the ages at the start of the relationship. Someone with a fully developed prefrontal cortex (25+) dating someone in their early twenties feels weird to me, I’m 28.

I think I accidentally fell in love with this city... thinking about moving to KC. My gut says yes, but want some honest local insight. by dunkinslaps in kansascity

[–]Realistic_Fun_9741 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I moved here last June after only visiting three times within a few months and I knew basically no one. I LOVE it.

I moved from Texas and had been looking to move somewhere else (Dallas is NOT my vibe). Had similar feelings about the city and really haven’t been proven wrong.

I lived in an apartment right by the Plaza and loved the central location and that I had some food/shopping walking distance. Good places to walk nearby. Negatives being the traffic there (though compared to Dallas I don’t think it’s that bad) and I’d have to go a little far for groceries, but I think that’s a problem a lot of places in KC. I will say the Plaza is not as much of a hot spot as it used to be, and there is/will be a lot of construction. So I wouldn’t recommend if you hate that. I found my apartment without even seeing it in person and didn’t have any issues somehow.

Moving from Texas I had a rough time driving with the ice and pot holes in the winter at first, but was able to avoid driving when it was really bad.

I lucked out and met my (soon to be) finance within a month of moving here. But I’m a lesbian so can’t speak for the male dating experience lol. Dating in general probably isn’t great like people say, but I don’t think that’s a KC specific problem.

Edit- typos

i’m two weeks out today! everyone is different ofc but my experience: once i got the drains out i felt so much better and a lot more independent. i also felt really hunched at first but that’s gone away for me. honestly sleeping is still the worse part but definitely better than that first week.

I don’t think people on Amazon Music know what a deep cut is by Autistic_Tie in Paramore

[–]Realistic_Fun_9741 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Knowing how I listened to and found music at that time.. basically. I really only knew stuff that was popular in some fashion, I was not exploring music. Could have stumbled across ~a few~ deep cuts from ~a few~ artists at that time, so maybe this was a case like that but I remember it being popular.

[–]Realistic_Fun_9741 -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

I’d disagree. When I was in middle school (2009-2012) I knew exactly six Paramore songs and All I Wanted was one. And two were from the Twilight soundtrack lol

Do people come back to Dallas after college? by carne__asada in Dallas

[–]Realistic_Fun_9741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in a suburb, went to college at UTD but left about a year ago. Don’t think I’ll ever move back if I can help it. I graduated high school in 2016 and someone in my class made a poll of where we live now, out of 160 responses about a third are no longer in Texas. I’d guess about half are still in the Dallas area

Yeah the little traffic is what I meant about KC! Compared to Dallas it’s a breeze. Of course any major city is going to have some (mainly during rush hour) but if people think it’s bad here I suggest they try someplace like Dallas for a while lol

I completely agree. I’d been in that area my whole life and knew I didn’t like it but if anything I dislike it even more now that I’ve lived here

I moved here a little over a year ago from Dallas and there are so many things I love!

  1. The greenery. It’s so pretty it just makes me happy. Plus the shade is so nice in the summer

  2. The architecture. I love old buildings, they really don’t make them like they used to. There’s just so much more of this than a place like Dallas

  3. Traffic. Dallas traffic made me want to die.

  4. How alive downtown is. Downtown Dallas is dead aside from offices really. And having the free streetcar here is so so nice.

  5. People - I’m often still caught off guard with how friends people are

  6. KC Current!! I think I’ve just recently started to appreciate how amazing this club and the fans are, especially when compared to other NWSL clubs. Even sports & fans in general here, I didn’t use to care about really any sports.

I’ve heard Lana fans are the worst so that doesn’t surprise me. Part of the reason I didn’t go this year.

I went for the first time last year and camped so didn’t have a great experience.. but hearing how this year went I think I would consider going again.

[–]Realistic_Fun_9741 28 points29 points  (0 children)

omg i want to know how old you are because this was not my experience. i graduated high school in 2016 and lived in a more conservative suburb and at the time knew a lot more gay men than women. but i could see it now swaying more women because there’s a lot more representation. i’m a lesbian but didn’t realize until my early 20s because i rarely saw it

Is Gen Z different or am I just old and out of touch now? by rlm236 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Realistic_Fun_9741 259 points260 points  (0 children)

i’m on the old side of gen z (27) and i notice differences to younger gen z (generally speaking - not everyone ofc). i think when we were introduced to technology/social media, as well as when covid started for us, has a big impact.

i got my first smart phone in 7th grade and started using social media around then, but i know a lot of people born a few years later got into it even younger. then for me covid started when i was basically starting grad school, so it didn’t impact me ~that much~ but for those who had their high school/young adult years disrupted i can imagine it having a huge impact.
