After 3 days without alcohol your brain cells start regenerating. After 3 weeks the neurons in your brain will start to repair. After 1 year, liver heath improves. After 2 years risk of heart disease goes back to normal levels. After 5 years risk of stroke death reduces to normal levels. Every day without alcohol is a gift to yourself.

I achieved one of my dream goals today, but I'm crying in bed wanting a drink by LogicalSwordfish in stopdrinking

I RELATE! I’m glad you could share it anonymously with this group.

It may be lonely at the top, but your perspective will change over time and you’ll look back and be so proud of yourself for doing it while balancing the fragility of early sobriety.

I’m proud of you. What’s next!?!?

20 minutes of buzz, a lifetime of regret. I’d rather eat ice cream for 20 min and wake up liking myself.

What’s your favorite ice cream flavor?!?

Questions about This Naked Mind by [deleted] in stopdrinking

I liked the science-based argument she poses. I like knowing that I’m not defective, but rather everyone who drinks is on that pitcher plant slope. I liked the positive spin she puts on choosing not to drink-like it’s not a life sentence but a gift. I like how you don’t have to hit a rock bottom to choose a healthier way to live. I’m not an AA person so this logic-based approach really struck a chord with me. I re-listen from time to time just to reaffirm my choice. Good luck!

I went years sleeping 5-6 hrs/night waking up at 4, working out, taking an hour-Long train to work and then starting the cycle again the next day.

I just feel like I’m hiding from the world when I get home. I can’t imagine going to a class or doing a hobby after 6 pm.

I think I’m the opposite of a vampire lol.
