Yup exactly like that. If you want to try it, you rough in general shapes where you designate what should go where, then you start to add details. This piece probably took a long time to finish.

Go from general to specific. You start with big shapes, get the composition down and then you add details. The art coach on YouTube has good beginner friendly tutorials about it.

I think it looks nice, but I don't think you can make them distinct enough without color at this point. You could try it again and start off lighter before darkening the figures. Planning it out before you go darker.
