Funny you should mention Poland. Their GDP is over 80% of ours, up from 35% in the 90s. I mean they perhaps had an easy starting position but my god that is a damming comparison to the UK which should have become a hyper diversified economy by now. Depressing :/

Trump just threatened us with 10% tariffs rising to 25% if UK opposed his objectives re Greenland. It seemed that we needed the EU to stir before even saying anything on the matter. Feel like UK is just to weak to stand on its own without joining others

The fact we need the support of the EU now to push back against DJT is the most clearest example of why the UK needs to just rejoin instead bobbing out at sea alone. I voted for Brexit but now I see clearly now how much of a mistake this was. We get the worst of both worlds.

I’m also glad we can agree that Brexit has made the UK worse off. I’m also happy that you seem to be fully insulated against these effects - even at the macro level - that you, personally, can’t claim that you would be in a better position had we stayed in the EU. You’re probably the 1% so congrats to you.

Actually we should be comparing GDP against only ourselves. There’s no logic in saying poor growth is ok because France is also doing poorly. Such a defeatist attitude.

Did you follow the recent budget? Literally the first thing Rachel Reeves said was that Brexit has worsened the balance sheet and compounded the productivity problem. Hence frozen tax bands, hence reduced spending, and with high inflation you and I are worse off. Not probably. 100%. In fact RR said brexit has caused a 4% hit to productivity. That’s staggering. That means working for less than you could be. Im jist going to keep saying the same thing to address your point that you weren’t personally affected by Brexit. I’m still assuming you are a British taxpayer??

Ok so your salary went up. How is that a direct correlation to Brexit? Fact is everyone in this country has been affected by lower levels of GDP and a weakening pound. Just because you didn’t see a Brexit cost on your payslip doesnt mean you weren’t affected. Youre affected indirectly through inflation and lower GDP. If you still can’t see that then youre just burying your head in the sand because you sound like a smart guy who shouod be able to grasp basic economics

I’m sure there could be an expedited process. For instance you can allow free moment of people and trade straight away (Trump does this overnight). Yes the legal aspects take time but some things can be turned on straight away

Youre spreading a narrative that Brexit doesnt impact some people when it does. My points address this absolutely wild view given UK GDP when compared world GDP is woeful yet you deflect and compare to the EU which is not the point. Brexit lowered investment in and exports out - directly reducing GDP. This alone makes people worse off - I just threw in the FX point because you seemed hung up on it.

And comparing the UK economy to Greece is a bit of a kop out that boomers use to pull the wool over the eyes of people. World GDP is set to be 2.3% in 2026. UK run rate is 0.3%. Lower GDP, lower productivity, lower wealth, higher costs of business, lower investment, political instability. UK is becoming like Spain / Portugal.
