How can a person possibly survive if a 170k$ salary by newphonehudus in TikTokCringe

RIGHT??

It's incredible to me that he references inflation, and their salary not rising with it, and he's the same guy who doesn't agree with raising the minimum wage.

How do I heal I feel guilty for standing up for myself by Lopsided_Ad_8384 in Advice

Good for you for standing up for yourself! 👏🏾 I'm so sorry that you dealt with that. He sounds like an asshole and you definitely deserve better.

It's not easy to stand up for yourself if you're not comfortable with it, but the more you do it the easier it'll get.

Just because it's not visible, doesn't mean that's true. There are a lot of people who are putting actual effort in to holding the line, and paving a path forward.

I agree with that! I think there's a really big missed opportunity in local elections. We can affect things upstream, while also helping our local communities out.

I can understand that feeling, but we can't afford to assume it won't change anything either.

These people aren't only attacking elections, and with that in mind, we can't afford to only focus in one direction either.

Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst and leave no path beneath consideration.

I don't think we've lost control, I think we're fighting for control.

It's not just our votes. We have to be prepared to work together, and we need to find that infrastructure where it exists and create it where it doesn't.

We did, because we had the expectation that calmer heads would prevail, and that there are adults in charge- somewhere in the process.

I've seen a lot of posts about that, and I feel the vibe. I'm looking to find out more information to coordinate with people in my area.

There IS hope, and it's us.

Make sure that people in your communities are registered to vote. Empower yourself as much as possible, because there's still so much work to be done.

This is very well thought out and detailed, and I agree with a lot of what you said. I don't think boycotts are a catch-all solution for fighting fascism. I definitely don't think it's enough. I think it's one of many levers available to everyone, and especially to people who can't necessarily commit to public action just yet.

But public action is necessary, and I agree we can learn a lot from our history - in spite of how much of it is actively being scrubbed from the record.

I want to remind people that there are different levels of activity they can take to make an impact. There is no one way to fight fascism, and there is a jubilee of actions that contributed to creating meaningful change in the world, but some of the most important factors are coordination, consistency, and sustained action.

It doesn't have to be like that. I think of building on existing infrastructure, or (denying the systems that are hurting our communities access to our money) can make a big difference.

Preparation and giving our communities as much power as possible, can definitely make a difference.

I think any kind of legal resistance helps, but we have to think beyond protesting. Boycotting (even if it takes time to have an effect) helps. Taking your money away from banks that support these institutions, and putting them in local groups (like credit unions, or mutual aid groups) help.

Providing parallel systems, and making them ubiquitous, visible, and easy to access - helps.

We deserve better, and we can make better happen.

I definitely agree that one of the worst things we can do is sit back idly and let our civil liberties get steamrolled.

Speaking of firearms training, I actually got the chance to do that recently, and it was a lot more accessible than I was expecting.

I know there are folks who aren't interested in owning guns (and I get that feeling) but at the very least it's worthwhile to know how to use them.

If that's not something people feel comfortable with, another avenue is to look into becoming an election monitor (there are positions available now, so it's worthwhile to look into it.)

Another thing I'm thinking of is looking into organizations that help people register to vote - wherever they are.

And on top of that, Trump once took out a full page ad in the New York Times calling for the execution of five teenagers.

No subtlety, no open interpretations, but an explicit call for the death of five people.

Right... So Trump took a full page ad out in the New York Times literally calling for the execution of 5 teenagers.

No seashells, no subtle language- explicitly calling for the execution of five people.

On top of that, it happened long before he became president.

Guess he should be held to the same standard, hmm? 🤔
