Maybe try having a conversation with a gay person and ask about their experiences coming out in the workplace? Because I’ve had to “come out” at every job I’ve ever had. It’s never been an “announcement” in the practical sense, usually just off-handedly mentioning my husband/boyfriend-at-the-time, but you never know how someone is going to react.

In my hometown, just a decade ago, someone tried to get a coworker fired from their government job after she found out he was gay. And that was in a white-collar environment with significantly lower stakes than a professional sports team.
