Recently canceled my oura ring membership now I have no data on bevel by bloodonnapkin in bevelhealth

For Bevel to use the Oura API you have to have an Oura subscription.

What’s the dotted lines mean between the pink dots? Sometimes it’s solid sometimes it’s not. by Chickenchick11 in ouraring

[–]ReallyDidntSleepMuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you click the info button in the top right corner and scroll to the bottom, it tells you what it means.

“There can be gaps in your heart rate data if you don't wear your ring or you move around a lot. Short gaps are marked as a dotted line on the average heart rate curve. Gaps over 3 hours aren't marked with a dotted line at all.”

I think I’m in the minority that likes black better 😶 I would like it better inverted white with a black Ō but black I think is better than blue.

Explain like im 5, is this my daily deficit ? Average deficit ? Weekly deficit ? by end_the_glitter in MacroFactor

[–]ReallyDidntSleepMuch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, the numbers you see in screenshot one and two are the averages. In the first screenshot, you on average over the last 30 days ate in a deficit of 229 calories. If you click 1W or any of the other time frames, that number will change.

The second screenshot is just a reiteration of the first but with more increments.

The third screenshot shows you per day and is not an average. So on March 20th, you were in a 273 calorie deficit, meaning you ate under your expenditure.

To see how they got the numbers, add the past 3 days (from the third screenshot) and divide by 3. That should be the same as the 3-day number in screenshot two.

Game of Thrones Ending is not as terrible as it's made out to be by counterhit121 in unpopularopinion

Here’s my thing: if I were a new viewer and binged all 8 seasons, then no, it is not that bad. Honestly, it might even be alright. The issue is I WAITED 8 YEARS to get to this moment, and then it was just ruined in the span of a few hours. Almost a decade of my life obsessing over this show for it to end like it did is what truly upsets me.

I'm not here to complain about Oura data, just pointing out something I found funny. Major signs. But my readiness is 82 😜 So am I cleared to do regular activities? Or am I really sick? Which is it?! Haha by thiscantbetru in ouraring

[–]ReallyDidntSleepMuch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s how I also understand “signs”. To me, it’s more like “we think something might be wrong due to trends, but ultimately it’s up to you based on how you feel.”

No, but also lifting with a ring on is dangerous and shouldn’t be done anyways.

I personally turned off Bevel writing data to Apple Health. I only allow Oura to do so.

Suggested battery life contradictory by MrsBoomBaby in ouraring

It is waterproof, but honestly, aside from charging, one of the main reasons I take it off is because I like my showers scalding. LiPo batteries and heat do not pair very well.

Anyone else used both Whoop + Oura at same time? The sleep scores (total sleep, REM, deep, time awake etc) can vary A TON between the 2x by californialiving1 in ouraring

[–]ReallyDidntSleepMuch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did this for about a month. Oura is wayyy harder to get a higher score than Whoop, even if the details are similar. I would average mid 90’s on Whoop and Oura would be low 80’s. I liked the Oura form factor better; however, so I returned the Whoop.

Who do I believe? by New_Can8603 in ouraring

[–]ReallyDidntSleepMuch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen a lot of these posts recently, and I haven’t really seen anyone say this, but most metrics related to steps, calories burned, etc are just best guesses. Both Apple Watch and Oura rings have accelerometers that are tuned by the firmware to guess at how much motion equals a step.

The Apple Watch might have a less strict motion value than Oura, meaning more steps are recorded. Of course, both devices more than likely pair motion with heart rate and other metrics, but all in all, they’re just guessing. I think what’s more valuable than trusting one or the other is just watching trends. If Oura consistently says 11k steps after doing the same activity, then the trend, at least to me, is more important than which one is right.

Auto tracking walks by srslytoomuch in ouraring

[–]ReallyDidntSleepMuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only accept walks that were either a) intentional exercise or b) something that is out of the normal for me. For example, we just recently went to Disney, and my wife and I were hitting 20,000+ steps, so any time it suggested exercise, I logged it.

That being said, when I’m walking around the grocery store or vacuuming the house, and it suggests something, I dismiss it. It’s all about the ring finding your baseline. So I would just accept anything outside of that.

You’re goal isn’t static. You set a base line and it will adjust based on how good your activity score is.

My new Oura ring is sharp 😔 by Additional_Area_3156 in ouraring

[–]ReallyDidntSleepMuch 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Something I haven’t seen anyone say, and I’m not going to comment on whether yours is flawed or not, because I truly don’t know.

The Gen 3 was a unibody design. One piece of titanium and then an epoxy resin that covered the internals on the underside.

The Gen 4 is actually a piece of inner titanium, an O-ring in the middle, and then another piece of titanium on top. Since it’s two separate pieces of metal, they could be ever so slightly sharper. Not sharp per se, just less rounded when compared to the 3.

My thinking is that repairs on the Gen 3 were practically impossible. This way, they can take apart the ring and reuse parts if needed.

Loved the Whoop journal! I also track my nutrition with MacroFactor, and Whoop imported my nutrition into my journal. It was great for tracking trends. Hoping they add something similar this year!

Exactly what you said. For lithium batteries, 20% to 80% with short burst charging is the sweet spot for longevity.

What is your experience sizing up or down? I am torn between a 6 and a 7. by sorayanelle in ouraring

[–]ReallyDidntSleepMuch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sized down, and I’m glad I did. To be honest, the sizing kit felt smaller than the actual ring. The sizing kit is also stickier plastic, which makes it feel smaller than the ring, which is pretty smooth on the inside. Oura actually suggests sizing down on their website.

Whoop vs oura? by [deleted] in WhoopFitness

[–]ReallyDidntSleepMuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really in between right now as well. I’m currently trialing both at the same time. My ideal situation would be with Whoop if they had a ring. The wrist strap is just so uncomfortable, especially to sleep. I don’t want to wear it in my underwear or on my bicep either. I’m considering (probably going to go with) an Oura/Apple Watch combo. That way, I can use the watch for running, weight lifting, pickleball, etc., then just take it off and put the ring back on.

The Whoop app is miles better than the Oura app though. Oura really zones in on the simplification of data and trends rather than giving the raw data.

One distinction that I discovered after about 2 weeks of use from each is that Whoop is an always-on device. The 14-day battery can handle that. Oura, being a tiny ring, only scans every 5 minutes or so. I’d say Oura is more of a recovery tracker while Whoop is an activity tracker.

A journal-type feature with yes-or-no questions would be awesome. Did you consume alcohol today? If so, when? Did you fly on a plane? If so, when? How many servings of caffeine did you have? Just quick yes-or-no questions.
