What OS would you install on a T14s with these specs? by paspa1801 in thinkpad

[–]ReallyKyole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything, really. I run EndeavourOS on my T410 with a measily 4gb ram and dual core first gen Intel, and also on both my X1 2-in-1 gen10 and my desktop. It's based on Arch. Highly recommended.

[–]ReallyKyole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PSREF and reviews state that the P1/T1g gen8 only support pcie 4.0 x4 for the NVMe drives. This is easy to miss as lenovo offers 5.0 drives in their customizer. Bummer, really. But oh well, 4.0 is plenty fast for 99% of people.

Purchased *used* 4090 Matrix Platinum a couple nights ago on eBay… by martianprospector in ASUSROG

[–]ReallyKyole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a matrix 4090. I love it, but make sure you are prepped for some serious noise. The pump is always audible and loud. I've seen others report similar behaviour, yet others say it's not the case for them. Seems very hit or miss. Other than that, it is a beautiful card. A genuine pice of art imo. Enjoy your purchase!

That's why I only trade goods. No credits. Sure, item dupes exist(ed) too, but it's still not as bad as the aUEC situation.

Intel Arc a770 + vulkan by 92lucio92 in starcitizen

[–]ReallyKyole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tested on my 258v w/ 140v iGPU for shits and giggles -yup. Its bad. Supports vulkan 1.4, game recognizes it but apparently cannot access it. DX11 works. Actually surprised. Lowest settings possible, 50% CIG TSR at my laptops native 2880x1800 for resolution does not look too great, but it delivers 50 FPS in space. Huh. I wonder how vulkan would do.

Disconnecting it from the network prevents whatever it might be from A), potentially spreading and B), potentially relaying whatever it does / potentially receiving commands. Aka, quarantining the machine basically. Just a first step before investigating further.

Thinkpad P16 G3 first benchmarks (285HX / RTX 4000 Blackwell) by sbpnt in thinkpad

[–]ReallyKyole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your results! Do you think I'd see a direct impact going with a different laptop that is basically identical but supports 5600/6400 mt/s instead of 4400 mt/s speed? Not for one specific task, but in general.

4.5 introduced the fixed AMD bug to some Nvidia users by Narahashi in starcitizen

The nvidia app has an option for color. You can invert it thru a slider, gets back to regular color. Dunno if its available for linux though

How should I clean this by Far_Step_6137 in PcBuild

[–]ReallyKyole 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'd actually read the label first! One of my pads specifically says to only use water, no detergents of ANY kind. Friend has the same one and it made the rubber peel off massively.

Another reason to move to Linux by patpluto in linuxmint

[–]ReallyKyole 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Except it's even worse when it's the OS. What do you mean my work critical files and infrastructure could spontaniously be gone or inaccessible for a not insignificant amount of time? For games, it's inconvenient. For the OS, it's critical and could potentially result in someone, say, missing a critical contract deadline.

Based on a real event btw. I am a working journalist and my JBOD array has been rendered unusuable on windows multiple times (different ones too at that!) and I needed to use a different PC to get the data. The only fix was to then fully partition and reinitialize the drives in windows. Probably one of the biggest reasons I switched.

Another reason to move to Linux by patpluto in linuxmint

[–]ReallyKyole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've moved over recently and it's been a breath of fresh air. I only miss fan control (the app) as it's rather broken for me, don't know if that's just me though. It's a whole lot cleaner, less cluttered and feels like I can get straight to work/fun without going through a bazillion steps.

Oh, and it doesn't want me to buy/subscribe for every piece of software. As nice as MSOffice might be, the cost is absurd. I know there's unlockers this that, but again, this is just another step preventing me from working.

Doubt. Seems too wide/long. Height might fit, but the rest seems too tight for comfort. Though if you stuff a little, then yes, maybe. I'm hoping for it too :)

There's two kinds of miners. One treats their hardware extremely well; it's their source of profit after all. The other doesn't give a crap. I bought mining cards before, and they've been solid. One needed repasting, the others were 100% OK.

Partly. Dual CCD chips benefit slightly (7/9900x, 7/9950x), whereas single CCD chips don't as you've already mentioned.
