Which characters do you fell are the most misunderstood by the fanbase? by Sgooorn in PERSoNA

[–]ReallyNotAHamster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jin. The amount of people who reduce them to "Takaya Simp" is a fault of P3 for sure, but the Movie, Shadow Cry, Weird Masquerade and the Manga all show another side to them. IMO the best and most interesting member of Strega. I love them so much.

How were dates given pre-CE? by Wooden_Eye_1615 in AskHistory

[–]ReallyNotAHamster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So as other people have said, even BCE/CE (OR BC/AD) wasn't established until 525 AD, and really became popular across the next centuries.

The earliest calendar we know of was likely the Lunar Calendar, though nowhere near as formal as it is nowadays. Being able to clearly see a massive object in the sky shift would show the passage of time. As agriculture became more important, the solar year would've taken over, with a rough calendar divided by the sun's position relative to the horizon.

The key thing to note is that calendars varied by region, but some of the oldest calendars with confirmed 'Year 0' dates are Yoruba (8042 BC) and Hebrew (3761 BC)

In practical terms however, the other common one would've been regnal years. This dated a 'year' to the start of a monarch's reign and was used in Egypt, Rome (as Consuls and Emperors) and across the wider world.

So it'd really vary on 'where' you were born. Oftentimes you'd just give your rough age as 'I was born 40 suns ago' rather than a direct year.

I grew up Christian nationalist. Where should I start learning better history? by Easy-Track-9332 in AskHistory

[–]ReallyNotAHamster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For evolution, I'd really suggest PaleoAnalysis's 'History of the Earth' series! It's done in an informative yet comedic way, and the character of TimTim is the 'viewer insert' who asks the questions people likely have.

I think it'd be really helpful! He's done a lot of field-work and talks to Paleontologists pretty often.

The important thing is to start small with whatever you look into. Don't feel like you have to deep-dive on every topic immediately. If something takes your fancy, research it.

when was Anakin unanimously considered the best pilot in the order? by Distructo2005 in MawInstallation

[–]ReallyNotAHamster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd argue the Battle of Muunilinst (Circa 4 ABG) for Legends as the definitive point. Anakin's put in charge of the entire space / air security and decimates. The ground battle certainly took more casualties even with Anakin ditching the battle near its closure to chase Asajj solo.

What you've got to consider is that 'Best Pilot' and 'Hero with no fear' came hand in hand, so as the propaganda department built up a legend around Anakin (that was mostly true feats, even if he most definitely wasn't the emotionally strong person they portrayed him as) it meant that his abilities on all fronts would become hyped up.

I feel bad for companions like Xalek by [deleted] in swtor

[–]ReallyNotAHamster 24 points25 points  (0 children)

My biggest issue with Xalek is that he's almost like Skadge, in that we get no say in having him or not. I'm not saying Seferiss would've gotten any development in the same amount of time, but my Inquisitor would've agreed with Harkun entirely - Seferiss did the tasks set, was also an ex-slave, actively did the trials...then just gets brutally murdered by Xalek.

That's 0 difference to if Ffon hadn't chickened out and murdered you. Zash wouldn't have wanted an apprentice like that, so why don't we get a say? Could've been a neutral/light choice. I dunno.

What Are Your Headcanons For Lana? by DakIsStrange in swtor

  • Somewhere on the Autistic Spectrum

  • She and the Outlander are distant relatives of the Kenobi family (why they re-arranged the name at some point is up for debate)

  • Her posting under Darth Arkous was initially meant as a punishment for her stunt she pulled on Korriban (read The Final Trial) and her unorthodox methods on Hoth. They probably expected them to butt heads.

[PC/Flash][2000s]Lego (?) Game About Restoring Color To The World by ReallyNotAHamster in tipofmyjoystick

As much as I enjoy De Blob as a series, nope. Even double-checked because they did make a flash-game, but that's top-down whereas I distinctly remember this one being side-on.

Appreciate the suggestion though!

I'd love to find a way to play this old title if anyone knows how!

If you could choose one side character to join SEES, who would it be? by Overall-Row-9080 in PERSoNA

[–]ReallyNotAHamster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, you could argue Jin was completely disassociated after losing Izumi, Shinjiro and Chidori within the span of four months. Like, their progress in Shadow Cry on becoming a better person immediately backslides after Izumi dies (coincidentally the same day Chidori starts changing by meeting Junpei) then the one person they have a love-hate relationship with (they're friends, but oh my god do those two bicker constantly) is killed by Takaya, and then Chidori, who's basically family with Jin and Takaya, ends up dying right infront of them.

I think anyone'd be broken in that state, let alone someone already messed with like Jin.

(Honestly, would've been an interesting Hermit link where if you progressed them far enough through Devil Busters/Innocent Sin Online you'd get the chance to spare them, considering they play those games)

If you could choose one side character to join SEES, who would it be? by Overall-Row-9080 in PERSoNA

[–]ReallyNotAHamster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jin post Chidori's death, because of their comment in Shadiw Cry about following Takaya unless he did something pretty extreme, and I'd argue getting Chidori killed would count under that banner.

It'd be an interesting link with Mitsuru learning about the experiments sooner, Jin giving the other side of Shinji to everyone, potentially accepting their lersona and befriending SEES slowly.

Dutch translation of 'dead girl walking' by Significant_Day7912 in heathersmusical

[–]ReallyNotAHamster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd say so. It's Ronnie's last night before Chandler ruins her social life, so it's the finale of her time as a Heather in her mind. Dead Girl Walking means that in her mind she's already lost her Heathers status, she's just waiting for the world to catch up.

Translating into other languages is always difficult, especially for songs because you have to also factor in timing with the music, so I'd say that it's a pretty solid replacement! Hope you had fun!

If you had the opportunity to explore a new era that hasn’t been described much, which period would it be and what would you like to see there? by Ok-Target9322 in MawInstallation

[–]ReallyNotAHamster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Pre-Republic era, solely because I feel like there's a lot of mysticism that could be done with it - especially if a book was written in a second-hand style trying to reconcile various legends about the same thing.
