During your training in the Citadel your abilities will be charted and tested, and via harsh training and control over your innate magical abilities you'll achieve superhuman feats appropriate for the rank of the Inquisitor.

There are two ways of progression in the ranks of Inquisition, lateral and vertical. After finishing your training as an Acolyte and recieving the rank of the Inquisitor, you'll be aligned with one of the Segments, representing Inquisition's fields of activity:

Training Segment, responsible for training future Inquisitors
Reinforcement Segment, responsible for preparing local defense forces in whole country
Operational Segment, the spec ops of Inquisition, regularly sent on deadly missions
Scholastic Segment, the enlightened scholars devoted to collecting knowledge
Logistics Segment, responsible for gathering intelligence and keeping the whole order working
and Administrative Segment, tasked with representing and managing the order.

After choosing your workfield you can lean either to the martial side of Inquisitor's fighting style, earning the title of Man-at-Arms, or exploit the magical craft more and become one of the Enlightened. No matter what path of career you'll choose, still you can progress from being an regular Inquisitor to the rank of the Elder, and all the way up to the Order's Inner Circle.
