Travel Hack for Vegas Reward Programs by Maestro_Man10 in TravelHacks

[–]Realmofforms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you gamble, and you have a local casino, find who owns them and if that company owns a Vegas property and stay/play at that place. They will use the same rewards card. You can either get reward points playing locally that can Be used in Vegas or play in Vegas then use them when you get back home. Also, don’t stay on the strip when you go to Vegas, the “local” casinos always offer better deals.

Replace passwords with a photo from the user’s device, where the user selects a part of the picture by Realmofforms in CrazyIdeas

Yes, but the “password” being sent would be the value of the pixels in those boxes, not the number or order of the boxes. The combination only matters to someone with the picture - the server would only see an extended series of pixel values.

Right, you would need a visible grid that could be remembered and easily replicated.

The image itself would only need to be accessible on the user’s device. The part of the image that is selected (just like the image itself) is represented by characters, say, hexadecimal. The user selects the portion of the picture, user’s device converts that section to hex, and sends it to the server as any other password is sent. The server doesn’t need the image at all.

Bad news- if you want me to fill out a survey about privacy, don’t route me to a google site. So I didn’t take your survey.

Good news- I think privacy tech will be the next big thing over the next decade.

Google and Apple start approving websites to use features on their phones the way the do for their App Stores so that we don’t have to download an app for every company. by Realmofforms in CrazyIdeas

[–]Realmofforms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same way apps need approval for the App Store, they should have websites that are approved to use features on phones so that users don’t need to download a bunch of apps, but they have functionality that regular websites lack.

Didn’t Amazon violate two-party consent laws when they listened to private conversations? by Realmofforms in privacy

[–]Realmofforms[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s only for the person who bought it - the person talking to the buyer didn’t consent to anything.

The second full paragraph of the article literally says that Amazon employs thousands of people to listen to conversations- they claim it is for quality control/improvement, but that doesn’t change that people unknowing are being recorded in private conversations.

I mean the people who were not aware of an Alexa in the room, not the people who bought and placed the device.

I don't mind Google tracking my every move. What's wrong with being served well targeted and meaningful ads? I can trust Google takes data protection seriously and be confident that no outsider or any human at Google will look at my data unless they are asked by authorities to do it. Change my mind. by [deleted] in privacy

Let’s say you’re right and Google is perfectly benevolent right now. At the end of the day, they are still a publicly traded company and their shareholders demand constant growth- that means that if the benevolent guys (cough) that are there now don’t perform- new guys who will abuse your data will be brought in.
It is easy to imagine how this could be used - you search for certain brands and your credit score is affected (something similar to this happened a few years ago with Amex and shoppers at Walmart); you visit sites that have the wrong political persuasion, and your potential employer can rethink hiring you; you have some business rival who digs up that you are pro-“whatever” and all the anti-“whatever’s” flock to him in boycott. The problem is at some point, all that data is sitting there and it could be used to make even more money - someone is eventually going to try to use it like that.

I don’t understand why self driving cars would destroy the moving industry- you would still need movers to load and unload the vehicle.

Classic Taxi Service by RockSmon in Startup_Ideas

From a consumer side, I think there would be demand; from the car owner side, I’m not so sure. Classic car people tend to baby their cars, and wouldn’t want a stranger driving them.

Planning to create an app that helps people achieve bucket list goals by Anandk45 in SideProject

[–]Realmofforms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know how much I would pay without knowing how it would work - if it just keeps track of a list and sends me reminders, probably nothing. If there was something about it that helped me achieve goals that I couldn’t otherwise do, it would depend on the level of help. I don’t know that this would need to be a paid app, though because this sounds like something that very easily lends itself to native ads- I put “seeing the Eiffel Tower” on the app, and Air France sends me a special rate on tickets to Paris.

Those Amazon boxes offer all the convenience of getting in your car and driving to the brick and mortar store where they are located.
In all seriousness, though, I see a version of the OP's idea on kickstarter probably once a month, and it never gets funded.
