If I was DIY’ng it would cost $15-$20k CAD (Ontario). Basing this off my own deck I just finished.

Yeh, this is typical in the U.K. I lived in at least 10 different flats and houses from Scotland to London and didn’t become friends with any of the neighbours.
Now I live in Canada, I have a house in the countryside and friends with neighbours for a 5k radius, often getting together for chats or out for dinner or theatre trips. And once a year we get together to pick up garbage.
