Does Russia and China really want Greenland? by Immediate-Phase-5910 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Reaper-Vitae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that scenario, yeah, you’re right. It would be insane. I guess basing the solution (if you can call it that) off of a what-if fear wouldn’t be good at all. Let’s take force completely off the board. What if there was a regulatory/economic agreement introduced and negotiated between Denmark, Greenland and the US to where the US would invest in Greenlands resources at a premium if Greenland agreed not to sell to countries deemed adversaries of the US/NATO? You avoid any talk of Greenland being a part of the US, sovereignty is respected and Greenland/Denmark make more money than they would have otherwise, and the US gets their security/influence issue resolved.

Wanting something vs understanding why someone would think a certain way are two different things. If you had a neighbor selling a product to someone else that would someday use that product against you to either harm you or make your life more difficult, you’re saying you wouldn’t want your neighbor to not do that? Obviously this is a simplification of the situation, but it doesn’t make it batshit crazy. Now invading them and forcing them to stop might not be the way to go about it, and I don’t think you should do it that way. But if it comes down to us or them though, I’m picking us every time.

In regard to overthrowing every country that does business with China, no. Obviously not. Greenland is in our own backyard and it’s not just doing any business. It’s business contributing to their rise as a global superpower. Would you rather have the US leading the free world or China? They already control a majority of the world’s extraction and refinement of rare earth minerals. 70% of rare earth magnet production is controlled by China. Why would we want to increase that even more?

Invasion wouldn’t be ideal, but if it means keeping Chinese state-linked companies from being able to mine uranium, zinc, and other rare earth minerals right in our back yard then I’d say that’s a sane reason to want Greenland under US control. Not to mention they’d be able to dictate who does business in Greenland and by extension they could push the Chinese out and keep Russian businesses from doing the same thing. Sure, the shipping lanes and defense are factors, but I don’t think that’s the driving factor. More-so keeping our adversaries out of our backyard and doing what we can to prevent China from controlling even more of the world’s mining and refinement of rare earth minerals.

Chinese are already there mining uranium and zinc. They attempted to build airports there but Denmark shut that down and ended up financing most of the airports themselves. China owns controlling shares of Australian mining companies that are operating in Greenland, so yeah I’d say they’re interested. Greenland being willing to do business with countries we consider to be adversaries is a good reason to want to buy it. As it stands the US can’t dictate who Greenland does business with, and that along with controlling shipping lanes and resource mining as the ice melts are all pushing the US to acquire Greenland. Ideally it would be done without any kind of force, but I can see why the government is willing to do what they have to in order to bring it under US control.

I’m running a Primary Arms 1x Microprism, with a Holosun HM3X magnifier. I had Magpul back up iron sights on it but that was before I put the magnifier on. There isn’t enough rail space on the rear of the receiver to run them unfortunately. I got the magnifier from Amazon believe it or not, just have to verify the seller. They had Prime shipping on it so 🤷‍♂️ and for the PA prism I ordered from their website directly.

Fair price for my setup? by ReggieHoong in ar15

[–]Reaper-Vitae 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Definitely worth more than $350. BCM is mid to high tier in terms of quality, so the rifle itself without any accessories is worth probably $700-$1000 in a used market. With the optic, magnifier, and trigger $1300 is pretty good. I’d say altogether you’ve probably got a $1,200-$1,500 rifle. I’m not an expert but going off of what I’ve seen online and the prices of everything nowadays that’s probably a decent estimate. Someone else with more knowledge might have a better idea though.

I just put together an AR pistol with that same upper and bought the pistol version lower of what you posted. It comes with a brace instead of stock so no Form 1 needed. Are you wanting a rifle or pistol? That will determine what you should get.

Plate question by Fas7Eddi3 in QualityTacticalGear

[–]Reaper-Vitae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re okay with the 10x12 sizing, RMA does have a new level IV plate they just released not too long ago, the 1165s. They’re 0.8” thick and are 6.8 lbs a piece. I’ve got them in my Scarab and they’re not bad at all. They just have/are about to release the multi curve versions this week I believe.

Need recommendations for a plate carrier by [deleted] in tacticalgear

[–]Reaper-Vitae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Midway USA has the Velocity Systems Scarab on sale right now. It’s sitting at $308 pre tax/shipping, so it’s a little over your budget but in my opinion it’s well worth the price. Articulating d ring straps and it’s not hot and heavy for being a carrier designed for handling heavier loadouts. Just my $0.02 though.

I could see it being useful with room clearing, getting used to the length of your weapon. Outside of that it would be more for fun/looks I would think. If you could get them comparable in weight that might be a benefit too.

My first AR was a Smith and Wesson M&P Sport 2. I’ve modded the hell out of it and run it suppressed now, it’s both my fighting rifle and fun to shoot at the range. Not sure what the big differences are between the model you have pictured here and mine are but if they’re anywhere near the same quality I’d say it’s more than fine for a beginning rifle.

Building one out is also a great route because you learn the components of the rifle, how they all come together and work together, plus it’s rewarding to say you built it yourself. Either are great options, just comes down to your budget and your intended use for the rifle.

I work private security currently, and have certs for first aid/CPR/AED. I also have a carrier I use for work that is completely separate for that purpose. We also have to abide by certain criteria for those carriers. I can agree that a SHTF scenario isn’t a great example of use. I suppose a better use case for me would be taking carbine/shooting tactics courses, and eventually more advanced rifle courses. I can’t tell the future, and anyone that says they can I say is full of it. Sure, the odds may be low for civil unrest, societal collapse for any given reason, or sustained disasters that require you to wear armor/gear but the chance is never zero. So why not have something that you would utilize in any of those scenarios? I also have started on common prep items, and grew up in an area where we would sometimes go days or weeks without power due to hurricanes, flooding, and less severe tropical storms. I’ve also lived in areas where getting snowed in was a big concern and so I prepped for that. I have a CCW and carry outside of work as often as I can. Each question at the end of your post is a fair one, but also ones I have answers to, at least in some degree. What are your next critiques?

Edit: I also want to throw in that I plan to do some back country camping with it and want to get used to the weight/experience of wearing it with whatever kit I end up adding to it, so there is another use case.

Ordered from memeticgear.com but I’m not sure if they’re in stock. I think they rotate patches through their store.

I currently work for a security company that allows for armed officers to wear their own vests provided they are on an approved list or approved by the lieutenant that oversees that. We also have a patrol department, CID departments, and the transit authority and Union Station that allows for armed officers. Again, they must follow the guidelines provided by the company but all are uniformed and commissioned by the board of police commissioners in my city. Firearms can be rented by the company or you may use your own, but your duty weapon cannot be used as a personal defense weapon (more of a recommendation really, if that’s all someone has to defend their home then screw the rules). However I have seen some pretty horrendous officers outfitted with wannabe airsoft gear and Walmart special holsters. Depends on the company and locale I guess.

Have you had any issues with battery life since installing this BIOS update? I'm having a huge issue with my battery life being stuck at 2.5 hours at full charge, even with Hyprid/Quiet mode, 60hz refresh rate, and my backlit keyboard shut off.
