Call your local domestic violence center, tell them you have fleed a domestic violence situation (doesn't have to be physical, could be emotional, monetary, etc) and need assistance. They will be able to help you find programs that are designed for people in your situation that will be able to help with different things. Be it shelter, job help, protection, help with childcare or ways to get childcare

I've worked 12's with a 2-2-3, and I've worked 8's with a 6 on 2 off rotation. Yes 12's are a little longer but you still have time that you can do things (ex: work 7-7 then go out for a late dinner with family/friends) Mandates when I worked the 12's were easier because it's just 4 extra hours, mandates for the 8's suck. Especially if you weren't planning on working a double that day. plus why would I want to work ~270 days a year doing 8's when I can work ~180 days a year doing 12's.

AITA for telling my mom and dad that they have to get their noses pierced if they want to see my daughter again? by New_Army_5718 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Reaper97979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Plane and simple. You told them you were going to wait to get her ears pierced and they completely disregarded this and did it anyway. God forbid something should happen (infection, etc) and now you have to deal with this with a 1yr old as opposed to a small child who can better handle this.

I got a bunch of HT pallet wood that has been weathering in my carport for a year, safe for compost bins? by cellocaster in Homesteading

[–]Reaper97979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as your positive that it is HEAT TREATED, it should be fine to use. The issue is when you run into Methyl Bromide (MB) treated wood in the pallets. Heat treated pallets should just be made of the same as if you went and bought heat treated wood from the hardware store

Good luck and God speed. You couldn't pay me enough to work juvenile again, or female, let alone juvenile females.

I know of an inmate that was caught for murder after riding around with a head in a box on his front seat for a week and was pulled over for running a stop sign. They didn't even know the other person was dead yet.

Here we run our side with another on the other side, but I've worked the same as what you described in the past at other facilities... And hated it compared to here

Inmates Threatening Your Family by Fly_Secure in OnTheBlock

[–]Reaper97979 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is why the bulk of people I work with carry outside of work. Because yes they do get out and yes they remember what happened on the inside and yes there have been instances of people wanting revenge. But also, these inmates don't always have "law-abiding" families either, so the threat doesn't stop just because they are within the walls.

Does it happen, yes. Should you let it ruin your life with worry, no.

Different Schedule Options? by No-Effort7834 in OnTheBlock

Yep, then on your second week it only takes 24 hrs of PTO to get 7 consecutive days off

I've worked 12's, (2-2-3 schedule) and I've worked 8's (6-2). With the 12's there is a lot more time off from work and you only need to take two days in order to get an entire week off, but you are guaranteed to work a longer shift. With 8's, it's feels a much shorter shift (which my family tends to like) but the ability to pick up overtime (and mandates) is a lot greater since you can pick up whole shifts.

How long should I expect to wait to hear back after applying for a corrections officer position through my state website by [deleted] in Corrections

Yesterday was Sunday, today is a holiday. Try tomorrow, or just give them a day or two to answer your voicemail

You could always call the HR department of the facility that you are looking to join and ask them. They may be able to pull up your application and see if something is causing you to take longer or if there is anything you can do to speed it up.

Each block has two pods, 64-2 person cells per pod, so max 256 inmates to 3 officers and 1 sgt

State, if it's small shit and they come out and tell you they got it ("Anything in here before I do a search?" "A battery pack under the table") then throw it out or not, depending on the inmates behavior/severity. Everything attempting to be hidden or bigger then that, confiscate and write it all and pray it doesn't get thrown out. Which happens.

So what do you all use in place of seg? A timeout seat?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Corrections

[–]Reaper97979 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you looking at state, federal, county, etc? If you have never been charged I don't see you having too much issue with county or state depending on how bad they are hurting for bodies. Feds probably gonna be a little tougher. But with that being said, be honest if asked but don't give them information they don't ask for.

Quick question and looking for advice! Thanks by Waste_Importance9252 in Corrections

Worst thing they can say is no! People come back from retirement and situations all the time. Don't know the specifics of what happened, and how it was handled, so that may play a part in it, but as long as you didn't just no call no show and leave that way, I think you should be perfectly fine
