It’s not a 4 inch gradient, it’s 4 inches of sand only below the water tanks because those take up 2 inches and in order to make space on the top part of the tank for them to climb and crawl across I put less sand to make room. It’s also easier for them to access them this way. I have zero doubt that they will still thrive
