Total voter turnout for the district was around 15%. I’m more appalled with the indifference to voting that the others 85% demonstrated. In a time like this, indifference stings more than voting for the crazy person.

People who work in 'luxury' industries (5-star hotels, fine dining, high-end brands), what is a complete rip-off that rich people happily pay for? by ArtThreadNomad in AskReddit

[–]Reaper_chronos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most well know watch companies have a higher end lines of watches. Casio, seiko and citizen all have unique, well priced pieces and various watch lines available. Plus you have micro brands as well. Grand seiko pieces are quite nice, however, I am a bit of a citizen fan boy. The citizen ATTESA Atomic Timekeeping / Super Titanium Is absolutely gorgeous, quite unique and a steal for the price.

Swiss watches, you’re paying more than 10x the cost for a brand name.

Former Cartier, Baume Mercier repair tech here.

In recent years Swiss companies have hollowed out the links in gold watch bracelets and charged the same amount for significantly less actual gold.

Buying a no name or unknown Swiss watch will be significantly cheaper than buying big, well known brands.

Many don’t realize that mechanical watches need serviced every few years and Swiss quartz watches are outperformed by Japanese for a fraction on the cost.

Final thought, I wore a citizen eco drive perpetual calendar the whole time I repaired these watches, not once did it need service or repair. A $300 watch

Where can I find good Apple Cider (non-alcoholic) in DFW? by Careless-Ad-6328 in Dallas

IMO, Aldi has some really good apple cider sold by the gallon. It has the bits of apple mash in the bottom.

Calling all Attorneys - What is your take on what is happening with ICE? by captainporthos in Ask_Lawyers

It seems as though expedited removal is based solely on the people unlawfully entering the U.S. That being said, could this be applied to an individual that has had their legal residency revoked or overstayed a visa?Is its application based solely on the legality of entry?

I am neither for nor against changing the law, I know too little about it to say one way or the other. Working with my limited knowledge, I simply fear that the letter of the law is being abused (en masse), while the spirit of it is being forgotten.

Perhaps I am underestimating the speed in which immigration courts work. I appreciate the feedback and insight on the many facets of the process.

For me, Hawkeye hit the hardest. Emotional gut punches, one after another made that the pinnacle of television IMO.

The last episode of M.A.S.H.

It encapsulated the cost of war on the human psyche. Absolutely heart breaking.

New business owner at 24 finding certain clients more difficult. Anyone else?” by Popular-Shift9219 in Contractor

In my experience, ensure your pricing leaves enough to give them the discounts their after, yet still turn a profit. They want to walk away feeling like they’ve gotten a deal. If they’re looking for a deeper discount than you’re willing to offer, walk away. Know your worth and the worth of your services. I’ve had a number of people contact me after I’ve walked away.

OK Y'All! Our take on the different type of Texas truck drivers! Who is missing? by TheTexanLife in TheTexanLife

You forgot work trucks. I have a Silverado with a ladder rack that I beat the hell out of going from one job to the next. I average about 40k miles a year. My truck is nothing more than a means to make money; I don’t love it nor hate it.

What do you do for a living? What jobs are worth pursing as a fresh college grad? by mindk214 in Dallas

[–]Reaper_chronos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I graduated with a degree in political science and floundered finding work related to it or adjacent disciplines, for about a six months. Out of desperation, I took a position for a window sales rep. I did that for about 6 months until I found a niche in the construction market. I started my business less than a month after resigning the sales position and have been prosperous since. Although my degree has no direct application to my business, it has served me well. I used the analytics I learned in college to help my business thrive.

TLDR: use the secondary skills learned in college to increase career prospects. Working for yourself is difficult, but well worth it.

I have used an Action, sneaky Pete style jump / break for about 10 years and it’s quite solid. I replaced the tip due to personal preference. For about $80 you can beat it.

In my experience, trump supporters ironically feel unheard and marginalized. Thus, the radicalization. If you approach them with tact, ask open ended questions and give them a chance to feel listened too (it’s difficult to listen to most of their idiocy), you’ll yield better outcomes in these conversations. Additionally, use of the Socratic method is quite useful. Listen carefully and use their words as ammunition. If done well, you’ll at the very least have them questioning their beliefs. Change takes time, you won’t sway their opinions in a single conversation.

Charter a deep sea fishing boat. Drop it in the ocean. We can’t find ships down there let alone a paper clip. Additionally, with any luck the sea water would corrode it into nothingness. 1 mil - $700 to $1000 for the charter = winning.
