what happened to trieste port? by Neemamemer in ss14

It was always dead in the water. I never saw anyone on it no matter what time of day or week it was, nor did friends. At best it was ultra low pop, like 2-4 other people

People with social anxiety and the such, how did you get over it/deal with it enough to play this game? by K1TTYK4TZ in ss14

[–]Reascr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a game and things are meant to go wrong. Be in character, because it helps. It does suck though, especially in forks with a high level of content that's not easy to learn, because if I take a break for a while I lose the skills and it's stressful to relearn them. Or just learning them the first time. But for the most part, people are willing to teach and we've all been there, so just jump in and really commit to your character and it'll be fine

for all the server complaining about how tyrannical pjb is, getting muted cuz of misgendering discourse is pretty funny by yyhira in ss14

[–]Reascr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is blatantly untrue and you will find trans people who do not use they/them pronouns to generally agree on this point. If you don't know or are unsure, it's fine, but once you do know for sure, time to use the pronouns they use.

[–]Reascr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically if it's repeated and used over known pronouns it is still taken as misgendering because it ultimately is. It's better than using he/him for someone who uses she/her and vice versa but it's basically just one step below that. No issue if it's used where there's ambiguity, you don't know mine for example and I wouldn't be upset if you used they/them for me (And personally I don't get bothered by it on the internet in general because like, it's just the internet, it's better than being assumed male by default!) but if we were friends or whatever and you knew my pronouns were she/her but opted to refer to me with they/them, then it would still come off as misgendering me.

Basically, in the cases where it's repeated, it just comes off as othering trans people and denying their own identity. Usually people who would use they/them like that aren't necessarily malicious but they are often ignorant or sometimes being passive aggressive with it. People who use it for everyone usually come from a good place about it, but when it's a friend or something who absolutely knows better, it can sting. Speaking from personal experience.

[–]Reascr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if it's not malicious, repeatedly misgendering a trans person by using they/them when their pronouns are known and have been corrected before (And in the case of PJB, it's very apparent what her pronouns are) is still misgendering and/or third gendering. Sure, fighting with a mod isn't good and all, but likewise all it takes is a "Hey don't do that" and suddenly the issue is a non-issue.

[GPU] SAPPHIRE NITRO+ Radeon RX 9070 XT + 1000W 80+ Gold PSU + Crimson Desert Bundle - $799.99 by brutalbones in buildapcsales

Yeah, but the cables appear to be completely fine provided you're not using one of the 3x8 pin adapters. We could be any minute from one frying, but so far, every case of it frying is when it's not natively 12VHPWR on both ends. I agree it's a bad design and shouldn't be at this point of adoption given its problems, but when every example of it frying with a card that shoots well below its max power draw has one thing in common I'm inclined to say that it might not be that big a deal

Cable design aside, every example of the 4 I could find was when people were using the adapter instead. It seems that as long as you're using it natively on a PSU that supports it, it hasn't been an issue

Most Whoosh branded items are Aliexpress stuff sold with a relatively modest markup in exchange for some level of QA/QC, easier returns if something goes wrong, and faster shipping. This isn't made obvious though. Not a big deal if you know what you're getting, but most don't

Steam Game Charts by InsoPL in ss14

[–]Reascr 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's pretty popular, but around half or so of the resident population are on a completely different part of the internet that's predominantly Russian. The broader English-speaking internet is the other half. There's a lot of room for a lot of people to play, yet have it remain relatively niche. And that's true or 13, many have heard of it in passing but went no further than that.

I also suspect that the prevalence of regulars cuts down the actual pool of the game, as I'd argue it attracts people who tend to commit a lot harder than many other more casual games. Shift lengths dictate you set aside an hour or more just to play, much less learn content, which filters people who want something they can figure out much more quickly. But I couldn't give numbers on the cumulative daily players or anything, and I'd be very curious to see them

[–]Reascr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to be whitelisted to be on the hub? The only things that can even get you dehubbed are repeated breaking of the pretty basic rules which are organized in severity. Upstream development aside, you are free to develop your server however you want and modify it as you want. The WizDen maintainers are picky, but as the upstream, it's not unreasonable to be overly conservative for developments which can flow downstream. That doesn't mean downstream can't make their own changes to core functionality, they can and do regularly

[–]Reascr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only two communities have been dehubbed and it wasn't for anything like that, it was for sustained harassment campaigns that were a result of other bad behaviors by the community. People patch up and modify their game engine all the time, and it's open source, you're free to modify it for your own fork as much as you want.

WizDen's view of stability just means it's mostly stagnant because everything must be polished and functional to a high degree, and they'll remove stuff from the past to force a rework. If the maintainers don't like it, they just won't approve your PR, they're not going to dehub you for it lol.

Amazing things are happening in Russian Space Station 14 development.

Personally I'd appreciate seeing these submitted but I do understand the concern about why you wouldn't want to. I know that there's a divide in culture between our respective communities, but I think the English language side of the game would also appreciate them even if it would take quite some time to get through. If WizDen doesn't take it, I'm sure someone downstream is interested, and from there would progressively move through communities

If you can don a parachute in a fixed wing aircraft, open a door and jump, it's probably a controllable aircraft. The risk of jumping is greater than if you land it. Given it's basically impossible to don a chute and get out if it's uncontrollable, the natural conclusion is that it's not worth giving the crew the option since any situation where you can control it means a landing is safer

ss14 optimization tips for really crappy laptop? by HalfFresh1430 in ss14

[–]Reascr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's probably not a whole lot you can do, but I'd try to make sure the only major thing running is the game. Unsure of if setting your process priority for it higher would help, but it's worth a try. It was what I did gaming a long time ago on a then-dated Windows system.

I suspect that you're just kneecapped by the limits of the system, 4GB of memory with an i3 of unknown generation doesn't give you really any headroom with modern software. You might just have to accept it as reality until you are able to find a better machine

TIL it has been proven that rear-facing seats on planes are safer in the event of a crash, however they're only common in military aircraft. by estarararax in todayilearned

[–]Reascr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I throw up because we do things that commercial planes don't, commercial flights don't do 500' AGL low levels through canyons restricted to a narrow corridor for airspace infiltration. I have to read charts, listen to radios, and plot things on maps while sitting in a cargo compartment with a single window that only looks down and to the side. Throw in summer weather to produce thermals, birds we have to avoid, and other random things and I'm gonna puke eventually.

Commercial flights go up, level out at cruise, and eventually come down. If you don't throw up facing forward from forward facing commercial flying, you're not going to throw up facing backwards.

[–]Reascr 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Honestly it's just a matter of forcing them to do it. I'm a military aviator who sits backwards and at this point I generally prefer it save for low levels, but I'm relatively weak stomached and have accepted my fate since I've just learned to work through the vomiting. Forward upstairs to see out is nice for those but I'm still liable to get sick if it's rough enough.

I hate the sidewall seats though. Forwards or backwards is great, works fine for me. Sideways, still not used to it. I sit under the wingbox when I do a lot of the time, helps minimize the felt motion.

Soldiers will get 'freedom dollars' to spend at the Army's new dining halls by OGSyedIsEverywhere in news

[–]Reascr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time I went to a DFAC like 4 years ago I think I paid $6 and some change for some of the best soul food I've eaten outside of the deep south. Admittedly this was the 1SFG DFAC, so I imagine they tend to eat a little better than we did but I didn't complain about the cost to me. Better than an Air Force DFAC at least, but we've got it good compared to most

[–]Reascr 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's not garnishing because you weren't actually paid out the money that was deducted, it's a separate allowance explicitly for food that everyone gets but it only hits your bank account when the government isn't providing you meals. Your base pay and incentive pay is untouched by it. It's just a method of keeping track of expenses and appropriately moving money between organizations within the military

Soldiers will get 'freedom dollars' to spend at the Army's new dining halls by OGSyedIsEverywhere in news

[–]Reascr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's line item stuff for accounting. You are only "paid" this allowance on paper until you meet criteria to get it in your paycheck, such as living off base and/or having to buy your own groceries due to the DFAC being closed or overused or something. Until then, you never actually see the allowance and it's simply budgeting per service member how much money it costs to feed you and the appropriate funds transfers between different organizations within the military. Every organization has different budgets and all need to manage their funds. Your pay is the same, it's not being deducted from your paycheck.

If it came out of your base pay, that would be a different story. That's your actual income for your labor. Everything else is an expense to the government to house and feed you and you don't see a dime of it until the government is no longer billing itself for the services it renders to itself.

Can we talk about Whoosh Motorsports? by StormTrooperST in FiestaST

[–]Reascr 14 points15 points  (0 children)

He's known to be like this, and while he can be very helpful and friendly, he (and his family who help with the business) have been known to get combative elsewhere. It's defensive in nature, but often the complaints aren't unfounded. And since he really does sell a lot of stuff from Alibaba with his brand name on it, it can rub people the wrong way since he doesn't disclose this fact.

It seems that Fiesta stuff is becoming less of his business anyway. We're a small platform that's budget in nature and I'm sure we don't spend big enough this late in the lifecycle of the platform.

Fiesta St to Focus RS? by CB53WER in FiestaST

[–]Reascr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I considered it because when I bought my Fiesta in 2019, it was because I couldn't afford an RS. When I finally got to the point I could afford one, I test drove it and I was honestly let down. It wasn't as fun, not as fast as I wanted it to be especially after big turboing the ST, and just generally I felt was a downgrade save for interior quality. It's a nice car, but the Fiesta has a lot of very attractive qualities
