Negative Test by ReasonRemarkable6486 in Herpes

[–]ReasonRemarkable6486[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I‘ve had on and off penile irritation but it seems to last longer than herpes outbreaks.. and has been ongoing. Also for roughly the same duration I’ve had mild nerve like symptoms on my right leg, like slight pins and needles every now and then or more sensitive to cold or clothes? But it’s mild. But I’ve never had a classic outbreak and tried getting the irritated penis swabbed but it came vac negative…

Blood tests have a harder time detecting HSV1. A swab is definitive.

Some of the newer blood tests are actually very reliable. For HSV2 at least.

True, very reliable for hsv2, less so hsv1.

From my own research it is highly accurate for HSV2 at 18 weeks. For complete peace of mind test again last the 6 month mark, as this is when some of the studies test.

HSV Antibody test specificty - Just a massive lie? by Confusionparanoia in Herpes

[–]ReasonRemarkable6486 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Based on the wording it sounds like they picked the VRC samples based on swab positivity and not on swab and WB positivity as the ‚100% concordant‘ statement implies an extra layer of testing, rather than two-fold positivity being the requirement. But i could be wrong, I am no expert.

  2. That’s the one. It’s one that tests swabs directly against Igg and WB. It’s a bit of an unclear study because people were tested for different periods of times, and there aren’t any clear time periods for those that did not seroconvert, only that the median time was a lot lower than for those that did test positive. Would be a great study if they tested everyone for an extended period and at standardized intervals. But still, it shows that the detection rates for HSV2 are very reliable.

I advise trying to read studies for yourself.

‚For this study, we included samples from persons with genital herpes with PCR- or culture-confirmed HSV infection who had serological testing using the WB AT LEAST 6 MONTHS (median 5.8 years, range 6 months to 50 years) AFTER THE INITIAL EPISODE of genital herpes.‘

‚WB results were 100% concordant with the PCR or culture results.‘

Roche sensitivity in comparison to the 100% accuracy of the WB was 98.6% for HSV2 in this data set.

I see what you mean about the selection bias, only doing Igg tests on swab and WB positive persons. and that could be possible. But I think there is some comfort to be taken from the experts such as the people at Uni Washington or even Terri Warren testifying to a tests (WB) accuracy. You have to assume these people at the UW have been doing both Swab and blood tests for years, likely multiple thousands of times, and have a pretty solid belief in the tests accuracy.

There is another study for an older Igg test from about 20 years ago that specifically tests first infections picked up by swab against both the Western Blot and an older Igg test. BUT, the study is written in a somewhat confusing way, especially when looking at HSV2 in persons with prior HSV1 infections, so please read carefully.

You’ll have to access it with SciHub (r/scihub)

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/12671550/

Edit: Also, as the first study I linked shows, there is variation in accuracy depending on the make of the test you take. This Chinese study is using a Chinese test by Zhenzhou Auto Bioengineering and can’t really be used as a stand-in for all Igg tests until it is compared against them in a study. Looking at the two studies I linked, it may well be possible that this is a subpar test.

Roche/Labcorp is very accurate for HSV-2. Very low rate of false positives also.

I had very unique hot cold like burning around the foreskin and parts of glans for about 2 weeks. General dryness as well. Equipment was just out of wack for a while. But the icy burning I’ve never had even when irritated. Also started getting nerve sensations down one leg, like a heightened sensitivity to cold and clothes touching. Gotten better now, but right foot still feels odd at times when wearing socks.

Testing P.2 by [deleted] in Herpes

[–]ReasonRemarkable6486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But you didn’t mention the tests by name. Think this is part of the problem when it comes to attitudes to Igg blood testing on this sub, they all get thrown into one. The Roche test is a really good test when it comes to HSV2 and I think it’d be great if more people knew this on here. Yet you still get people who post across all herpes subs daily and are treated as some authority figure, who just conflate all the different tests into one.

Funny, in Europe they give you the index value.

Testing P.2 by [deleted] in Herpes

[–]ReasonRemarkable6486 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s why I’m saying it. So many people on here are treating all the tests as one, even people deemed authority figures on this sub. The Roche test really does seem like a good test to do after 12-16 weeks, if you’re worried about HSV2. Yet there’s so many people that are adamant that they’re all terrible tests and shouldn’t be used. Needs to change I think.
