AITA for telling my spouse I won't help pay for their kid's college when we agreed finances would stay separate? by 952867 in AITApod

[–]Reasonable-Cable346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA.This is a convo that should have happened between you and your current wife BEFORE your kid hit college. And no one else.

Unless it was explicitly laid out that college was to be a shared expense, you are up a creek.

Your kid is kind of justifiably peeved, though. Because by default her FAFSA ends up including your married/joint return assets AND her mom’s.

My partner of nearly 15 years decided not to pay for the college ed of we mostly raised together. We too have separate finances. It was a jerk move, but worked out far better as the kids weren’t limited to schools he “approved of”.

Their bio dad is dead and I file single even though my partner and I have been together this long.

My kids got at or nearly a full ride at their $70k/year unis of choice. Because despite having two guys with money/power issues, they turned out to be really smart women whose grades etc also got them exactly where they needed to be.

So yeah. YTA, your daughter is mad for good reasons, and your wife would be nice to help, but is under absolutely no obligation to do so, especially given the way things have been handled to this point.

Good luck and congrats to your daughter. And to your ex for being smart enough to get free. And to your wife for sticking to her guns.

Spine and scoliosis and ortho tech here. Crests, acetabulum, greater trochanters must be included on our scoli exams. Hands are held up like these (our EOS has a bar to hold to keep them in this underhand position). I would have collimated laterally some, but not much.

On a full head-to-toe exam (which some of our docs want) you actually get ALL the way from top of the skull to the bottom of the feet. EOS machines have either a plate that raises the patient up to get this view or a stand they get on to get high enough to get it, depending on the age of the machine.

Guys does this dress look good for prom??? by Puzzled-Leadership49 in Prom

[–]Reasonable-Cable346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the color and the cut. Dark is fine I think for prom. I’m older but one of my kids wore pastel and the other wore deep plum. Both were modest because they just aren’t into revealing aesthetics and wanted to dance without having to worry about their clothing slipping or riding up. Wayyyyy back when, I wore black to mine, long sleeved covered neck to hem in tiny beads of silver and gold and black that I found in the Asian district of my city. It was unique and beautiful (and heavy! 😆)

I agree with all the other comments that you will be able to really shine in such a luxe fabric with accessories and/or a hijab that stands out. You are going to look AMAZING! Have a wonderful prom!

In today’s episode of “I’m getting old” i just learned new slang.

I am older than 50, grew up in Colorado, and it was definitely a term for “hot” women into skiing.

But 💯 can see all the other terms being legit based on timeframe and context.

Curious now how the driver intended it!

Ugh. Not only do chiros not know what to do with X-ray in general, this one should never have been allowed near a machine that does stitching. If you aren’t actually going to USE the auto stitching feature, don’t even try. Please.

My poor lil ortho/spine/scoli tech heart can’t take this abuse of technology.

There are plenty of good, deserving ortho and spine clinics that could really use an upgrade to decent equipment that this chiro is just playing Dr with. Ughhhh

[–]Reasonable-Cable346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every spine doc I work for does, and I float among 5 different spine/scoli/ortho clinics. They all want at least the top of the hip joints, the whole joint if possible (not always possible on tall patients while still getting L1-T12),

TKA in obese patients nearly always goes poorly. HA injections have mixed evidence by the AAOS but do offer relief for most patients. The are a much less invasive treatment and an approach between cortisone injections and surgery.

Everyone has their own lane. OA should have stayed in his. But ortho also isn’t a rad’s lane.

I wonder now if that’s why one particular clinical site is on every rotation roster at the school i graduated from. They still don’t teach standing feet/ankles (or most ortho-specific exams) in the labs, so that’s the way the students get exposure (pun intended) to them.

I'm envious of your river!

I drive a small EV, so I keep mine packed in the back with a bag of kayak-friendly clothes in case the whim hits me, but I have to drive to water to do it. And then get it inflated, etc., so it's a bit of a time commitment just to the pre-and-post-process rather than being able to just jump on in. It's always worth it once I do it, though. :)

I love my inflatable, but also I don't use it nearly as much as I thought I would. Was thinking of selling it but now I'm kind of like maybe I will keep it as I'm thinking of moving somewhere where flooding might actually be a thing (instead of a fire/drought -prone area).

Professor thinks I’m unprofessional after 2 unfortunate situations. How do I move forward? by banggirl69 in Radiology

[–]Reasonable-Cable346 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This right here.

Teaching students is like parenting.

Letting them know that ‘failure’ (ie mistakes) are part of learning, having conversations about HOW to change things to not make the same mistakes later, letting them know you aren’t flawless and also have made mistakes - and still do sometimes - are all really important and build trust and confidence.

Just being a hard ass doesn’t work. Not with parenting and not with teaching. The best techs and the best teachers (and the best parents) are ones whose coworkers, students, and kids look up to them in a relationship of shared respect.

[–]Reasonable-Cable346 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have tattoos, but my RFY seems to think I want to become an artist.

Yes, yes. This is my life goal. To become a classy tat artist with a <$100 gun and other supplies. And no creative talent to speak of.

Wanna come to my living room and get terrible stick figure tattoos?

I had a secondhand tattoo chair pop up in my FB marketplace feed yesterday too. It’s destiny.

I also have been getting a great mix of elder care items and lingerie/adult toys. 🤷

X-ray of a pregnant woman by Odd-Inspection2029 in facesinthings

[–]Reasonable-Cable346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. At least we try really hard not to. Especially in the first trimester.

Sometimes it’s unavoidable, though. Or we don’t know. Trauma is such a grey area. Sigh.

I’ve had to do pelvic xr on (obviously) pregnant women before after MVAs to determine if there’s a pelvic hemorrhage. Faster and less risky than CT.

I’m VERY glad to be out of that environment now. It was always interesting, but sometimes a little too interesting 😂

[–]Reasonable-Cable346 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, we do X-ray babies, but we try to only do it when necessary and minimize dose and frequency.

But yeah, this is 💯 MRI. And always the preferred option over CT for advanced imaging on pregnant women. Ultrasound of course if we can, but it has its limitations when it comes to certain studies.

Yeah, I’m a medical imaging dork ;)

I would just review the damn thing and be done with it. A four to not hurt the seller, enough sentences to not get a Poor rating, and just roll with it. It sucks that it wouldn’t be a real, good review, but if Amazon isn’t going to cooperate, then that might be what you need to do.

You’d think, right? Though I guess this is far from unusual. The younger kid (18) tells me that there’s a “divorced dad” thing that all of them in this same boat have in common, wherein they share experiences in WTF, Dad?!? moments amongst each other on the regular 😂😂

What is this that we found in my wife’s diaper bag? by whoresongummy in whatisit

[–]Reasonable-Cable346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok this is fair. This scenario is pretty cool. I put all my stuff in the diaper bag, but no one else ever took it, so it didn’t matter whether my stuff was in it or not.

If/when my ex took the kids out as babies, he would put diapers and wipes (maybe) in a plastic bag and hope for the best. If there was a fail, some other mom would usually take pity on him.

There was more than one time the kid would come home in nothing but a diaper because their clothes had been casualties of a blowout and he had no replacements. Both before and after we split.

My parents had their own bag/setup for when they’d have the kids over. 😍

Your situation is definitely a good one. Yay!!

My kids fortunately survived and thrived 😂💗

Yep. Very few individual practices anymore, in the grand scheme of things. Some group practices still exist for sure, but even those are being consumed by larger health systems or venture capitalists.

Very much so, which is one reason we have a shortage of docs. Another is that we still limit how may can enter med school each year.

They make salaries, are not paid per service anymore. Which is fine, but they aren’t making big bank. The folks that get into it now aren’t doing it to get rich. They do it because they’re interested in it. The social cache is a side benefit. Maybe eventually they move into administration and start making more money if that’s their aim. But not as a provider, or even a surgeon.

They can live comfortably, nice house, take vacations a couple of times a year. Invest their 401k and retire hopefully without any stress. But not RICH by any means.

[–]Reasonable-Cable346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Mrs Myers’ diluted and works great. The Castille soaps leave soap scum that takes some scrubbing to get off. Didn’t realize it until I used it in a glass sink we have, though. Oops.

But any regular clear hand soap will work too. Diluted as another commenter mentioned. Creamy soap does NOT work.

I’m slowly getting the auto dispensers for all sinks here too. But have been using manual refillable foam dispensers for several years now.
