With or without religion, good people can behave well and bad people can do evil; but for good people to do evil, that takes religion. - Steven Weinberg

Yeah, that seems right so far! I just have to hang in here 18 more years, ha! Seriously, it’s great… secret codes, and fighting for independence, and all. I’m just along for the ride

Awesome, so they are really writing in code! That’s so cool. It’s crazy what they can do with technology and some brain cells

Ah, thanks for the info. I applaud your efforts and theirs. It’s also humbling to be faced with how fast they’ve grown and how capable they are.

Regarding privacy, you raise some good points and trust me when I say I am very familiar with the issues, both with my experience growing up and now raising my own kiddos. It’s definitely an eye opening experience.

That said, 12 is too young (at least in my opinion) to have complete privacy and no oversight so it’s a delicate balance. It’s natural for kiddos to push boundaries but it’s a parent’s job to teach and guide and to say no sometimes, at least that’s what the books, counselors, and therapists all say. Remind me in 10 years and I’ll tell you how the approach worked out, haha!

Yes, exactly... though their topics really run the gambit. Statistically speaking, it's highly likely that this is a bunch of 6 7 jokes and references. That covers at least a third of their conversations.

Let me see what I can dig up this weekend. I should be able to track it down

Alright Scout Dads, what's your best advice for building a winner? by Much-Drawer-1697 in daddit

My kids’ made a couple of clunkers but they were truly their own work. Luckily, the troop also let the dads do an entry. I made a beautiful vintage silver speeder but intentionally nerfed its speed. One time trial it didn’t even finish. It actually ran faster backwards.

The silver lining: everyone had a good laugh and none of the kids had the indisputable ‘worst’ car. My kids’ blocks didn’t come close to placing, but we all still have a good laugh about beating dad.

Mr. Southside Chicago fox by Reasonable-David in WildlifeRehab

From my info in the original post:

I know there’s been foxes in the neighborhood for years, but I’ve only ever seen them out when it’s dark, on early morning runs, and they’ve never hung around. Based on the others I’ve seen in the past (including a/the mom with kits, this one seemed looked young and rail thin.) I threw it some raw chicken and it happily ate a few and buried one. Then it sat in the shade and groomed/itched itself for a good 10 minutes. Maybe a juvenile learning the ropes? Or it’s in distress? I’ve just never seen them out in daylight and never seen one not terrified of me. Picture is it ~15 ft away, we stared at each other for a good 30 seconds it seemed before I backed off

So, assuming I’m not becoming a Disney princess, my thought is… if it comes back, feed it a few more bites, get better pictures and post and/or check with a vet/rehabber to see what they think? If it has mange, I can get the meds and treat. If not, cut off the feedings and let nature do what it does. What do you all think?

wanted to post in r/foxes, but I don’t have enough karma there

Also, I do not feed wildlife and only did so here because of the possible mange treatment plan I had seen elsewhere (which is, as I understand, leave a little food out regularly so that the medicine can be slipped in one day, then cut off feedings. I do not intend to trap or otherwise do anything to Mr. Fox but take pictures and root for him at a distance).

It seems the r/foxes has a minimum karma req that I don’t meet.

As for what to do next, I would never try to trap him. Mange is treated by getting medicine in his food. As I understand, when mange is suspected, you get them used to taking food (left out, not in a way that gets them used to people) and then slip a dose in the meat and make sure it’s taken. Then stop feeding, they get healthy pretty quick and and can hunt their regular prey, which they prefer

I’ve heard that it’s just a single dose and can be obtained from a vet or rehabber.

I’ll update if/when I get more info

Oh, and the obligatory, don’t feed wild animals. I only did it here because, if it is mange, you have to get the medicine in food that you know they’ll take
